She also said that while she had availability she wasn't just an overnight hotel and that we should call Hotels.com to get our money back. "I don't know who you paid, but you didn't pay me." There were 3 rooms listed on Hotels.com. We booked The Dahlia room. The owner didn't even have the courtesy to come and speak to us in person and offered no assistance. A terrible experience.

It does not smell musty. It is an old house, what are you expecting it to smell like, a god-blessed perfume store? b. It's Vashon island. Nobody is gonna steal your stuff, Linda. And if you are so concerned, you can take valuables with you in the car you undoubtedly arrived in while away from the cottage. c. There is most certainly a latch on the bathroom door. d. There is a wall in the closet. Also even if there wasn't, when doors are closed, they are like a wall. The barn does not have people in it while you are sleeping anyways. e. This charming accommodation is run by a single proprietor. I'm not sure why Linda expected meal service in a rustic cottage on an island. Nowhere is the claim made this will be the case. The breakfast was better than anything I was imagining. We were served fresh popovers and jam, a stuffed avocado half with salsa and egg on top, and a fresh pot of French press. Anyway: Above the Sound genuinely deserves every star. My in-laws stayed here for nine nights and ten days and their experience was outstanding. They started out in the ground floor suite, which was spacious and cool (very welcome during the heat wave) and very comfortable. Another couple had booked the suite for the holiday, so halfway through their stay my in-laws moved upstairs to a smaller but equally lovely room. (This had all been worked out ahead of time. Bill was gracious and helpful when it came to their move.) The ground floor suite is very groovy and off-beat. It's full of antiques and taxidermy and I liked it a lot. We joined my husband's parents there for dinner (cold cuts and salad from a local grocery) and it was just right. The upstairs room is a little more like a traditional hotel room. Comfortable, clean, breezy, and just nice. My husband and my parents and myself all spent a lot of time visiting with the in-laws in both spaces and personally I'd be happy to spend a few nights in either. The breakfasts were INCREDIBLE. My in-laws were generous enough to invite us to join them for breakfast several times. All they had to do was give Bill a heads-up a day in advance and pay a small additional fee to cover our meals--UNBELIEVABLE food, with exceptional presentation and kind, attentive service. The fruit! The eggs! The everything! Bill and Cindy accommodated my weird dietary restrictions (I'm a bariatric patient) without a blink so I was able to join the family in a wonderful meal without compromising my food regimen. Seriously, everything was great about my in-laws' stay at Above the Sound but the breakfasts were the standout attraction. If my in-laws didn't want to do the full breakfast on a given day, there was a lovely continental breakfast available. I'm so glad we know about this place now; definitely recommending Above the Sound to future out-of-town visitors.

Rainier from the beach is unique and if one walks down a ways one can see the Seattle skyline. The place is everything it is advertised to be: the windows overlook Eagle Harbor with the ferries coming and going, the kitchen is well equipped and the stove has gas burners, the bed is very comfortable, the television has more channels than I would ever watch, Wi Fi is free, the bathroom is clean and the showerhead is powerful. The owners were friendly and honored my privacy. Photographers, artists, birdwatchers, couples, small families, kayakers, an individual looking to relax - I could go on - will all find something here. I found true peace and quiet.

I've stayed with them multiple times and each time it has been just amazing. They're located in the city of Poulsbo, WA on a working 17 acre farm. It's a private farm that you can pet everything from Pigmy Goats to sheep....to their two wonderful dogs (Hank and Abby). It's very close to downtown historic Poulsbo and easy to find (look for the big sign at the entrance to their property), with a lengthy dirt driveway to their house.
