Dear Everyone who reads these reviews. I went to Sunshine Nails for my monthly update. I want to stress again, what a jewel this salon is. Angie, the owner, is a master. She is meticulous. She cares about every client and does her very best for everyone. I have had acrylic nails for the last 30 years at various salons. When the last owners sold their shop, I went on a hunt, looking for someone who knew what they were doing. It was hard to find. Then I tried Sunshine Nails and have been delighted with the skill and care this woman gives to her work. She is kind and enthusiastic and very talented. She gives it her all. I love everything about this place. First of all, the quiet. Secondly it is the same two stylists in there every day. Thirdly, my manis and pedis last a long long time. I very much appreciate that I can come in there and relax and not have to talk the whole time but can engage in conversation if I choose to. Van is meticulous, experienced, professional and a most pleasant person. Walking into Sunshine Nails is.... well, like walking into the warm and nourishing sunlight from out of the cold. You just feel better in Van's shop and in Van's presence. And your nails will thank you. Mine looked like, as a friend once told me, prehistoric bird feet when I first came to see Van. Hands down best pedicure ever-I've been going to them for years

Worst manicure ever! I was hoping to upload a picture of my nails so that you could see what they look like less than 48 hours after my manicure. The clear paint is already off on almost every nail and my nail beds are a disaster. She did a terrible job with my cuticles and now I've got skin peeling off under the nails of 4 fingers...ouch! She also didn't file them evenly. I also got a pedicure, which at this point, is still intact. The older woman did my toes and the younger one did my nails...stay away from the younger one! Although, the older one did make comments, such as "You're still single?" (I assume this was because I don't wear a wedding ring), and "How old are you?" Um, none of your business!!! Additionally, the only reason I went to Sunshine was because of a Val-Pak coupon...which despite not having an expiration date, they would not accept! Very poor service. read more

4 STARS FOR $5 TANNING!!! That my friends is the cheapest I have found in this land of sun! Yes the bed may be old, but you get to set your own timer! No sign this and that and you can't sue when you get cancer. Just here you are and relax in peace! I also had a pedi for $18 with my Val-Pak coupon, it was nice. Not spectacular, but nice. The water was just right, I hate really hot water. My nail tech (I didn't catch her name) was funny, she made some comments that I don't think I can repeat on here. Let's just say she liked my white skin, I have never never had anyone say, "You have beautiful skin, it is very white." Hence, why I came to tan! She did give a nice massage but it wasn't the best paint job I have had. I will be back for the tanning for sure! disclaimer: This place is small; 2 techs, 2 nail tables, 2 pedi chairs. One room with a tanning bed and waxing supplies. This is not your high end place but what it is, is close, convenient, and the staff is funny! read more

I dropped in to have a pedicure and there was not a single customer there. In fact, the two women inside looked as if they'd been sleeping and my entrance as a walk in had awakened them. I should have seen the empty salon as indicative of something wrong, because although my manicurist went through all the motions, she was slow and disinterested. After she put the polish was on, both women went into their back room and seemed to be cooking something with a strong, noxious smell. I didn't see them again and 15 minutes later, I let myself out. Sunshine is owned by two sisters, Kim and Van who do great work and are very friendly. They are our local west Marin nail salon. I love supporting them and the massage chairs are really good compared to what I have experienced at other nail places in Marin. Van mostly runs the place these days and she knows her customers and many of their families. I love that I can drop in or call at the last minute as long as it isn't just before a holiday. I hope we can keep this local business flourishing. read more
