A company in financial and management trouble. Sunset Septic - It has 2 (One star) reviews here since Jan 30 2024. If I could, I would give them ZERO stars. I had a simple Inspect and pump my 1250 gal tank. After almost 5 years I had some minor indications that it was time to empty the tank even though we two elderly people had not taxed the system and tank was empty according to presale inspection reports. Short story: I originally called on a Weds. They advised they could not be on site until that Friday. Friday came and went with no return call and a phone mailbox "that had never been set up". It took 4 days before they could respond. Monday came and went. Phone calls each day from Friday through Monday never allowed me to record a voice mail. Since they had done my neighbor 4 years ago, I gave Sunset the benefit of my initial doubts. I got a call Tuesday saying they were on their way. Maps "sent them to an incorrect address" which had happened before. They opened 2 of the 3 pipes over the tank and dry well/ leech field and appeared to let the truck suck them out. The tank was "about 2/3 full", they said. It was getting late in the day and the guys looked tired so I agreed to have them return the next day. I left a live message with the female employee who told me that I was messaging her personal phone. I explained the voice mail problem again and that I wanted to speak to the owner or a Principle person. So, when one fellow tried to replace the 3" filter, he lost his grip and "couldn't find the filter again" On Weds, 2 men showed up followed by "Doug" , the company owner. We all inspected my situation and I was told that "my drywell was compromised and I needed to drill another one". There was other conversation related to "other repairs that could be possible. Doug left and shortly after his guys pumped the tank again. It wasn't long before the pump truck chewed up an impeller and was shut down by the driver. That evening, I called a competitor who I'd talked to over the prior weekend when I got frustrated with having no way to leave a message on any Sunset business phone. My alternate fellows came the next day, inspected everything including running a camera through both sections of the septic tank and through the piping manifolds for the dry well. They dug down and uncovered the standard 32" tank covers and installed a new 6" tank filter. "I do NOT need a new drywell dug. I do not need to have new pipe to a new drywell installed. I do not have to dig and install a leech field "(because dry wells do not meet code any more)" Bottom line: I have asked for (and will insist on) a partial refund from Sunset Septic read more

Unreliable company. Treats employees horrible undermines basic common courtesies and leaves families in financial crisis. Someone needs to sue. read more

If I could rate lower I would. For 1 the job was paid for and job not started. 2 the guys draging dirt out covered my clean out pipes that people assessing tog caps off it filled with a lot dirt and backed up all my toilets and gave horrible smell and water to bath tubs. No one available on weekends so I had to go rent a drain snake to clean out leaving lots of dirt in my septic tank. 3 guys have left everything time without telling when they'll be back and what next step was. I have had 2 rain storms now that has been eroding the dirt under my large workshop making the doors hard to open up and close. I have called left messages and text Mitch and still no calls back. I have requested to talk to owner and after calling and talking to 3 different people I still have not reached Mitch or owner my name is Rob living on 80th st mesa if anyone can help get this job done I am very frustrated about how we have been treated. Mitch told me he would get a free clean out for my septic tank, but if I'm having this much problems getting more dirt flattening how can I take his word. read more

Sunset septic Expanded my orenco advantex alternative septic system and did a good job. Their team is very friendly and I could feel their honesty and good character throughout the process. They would have a perfect 5 if they just had a little more follow up. But overall I think they were very good and reasonably priced. read more

Sunset Septic has displayed a high level of incompetence at doing septic tank inspections! They failed my septic system for the following reason "Septic system failed water test and a new pit is needed. We recommend a whole new system as tank is nearly 40 years old." They then quoted me a new $20k septic system, I was concerned about this response and got a second opinion from another septic company. The 2nd company quickly identified that there was a piping issue and that the system COULD NOT EVEN BE TESTED without making the piping correction. The piping was corrected and the system passed with no problem. I called Sunset Septic and spoke with the receptionist and informed her of the situation and requested a refund for their in-accurate and useless septic inspection that I paid $675 for. The receptionist told me that management would call me back to discuss. However management did not even return my call to hear my concerns, they only responded by email stating "I am sorry to inform you that we will not be refunding any money to you." This shows a high level of incompetence and scamming of the customer, it is obvious they are more interested in selling $20k septic systems than meeting the actual needs of their customers. I STONGLY RECOMEND THAT ANYONE THINKING OF HIRING SUNSET SEPTIC TO DO ANYTHING RE-THINK THE THE THOUGHT AND HIRE A DIFFERENT COMPANY!!! read more

This company has no respect for the customer. They were supposed to put in 2 new leach lines on our septic system before we purchased our house. Instead, they only installed 1 new line and attached in to the old line that was already in place. We wanted to install a pool in our backyard. They were supposed to come and add a new line that would not be in the area that we wanted the pool. It took nearly 6 months to get the line put in and for the permit to be approved. They would never call or e-mail us to keep us updated. They wanted to charge us the same for 1 line as they charged the bank for 2 lines that were not put in. We asked them not to leave the access to the new leach line where it would be in the way of our entrance and they put it right in the middle of the entrance. Making it difficult to use the entrance. I will never use them or refer them to anyone. I gave 1 star only because I could not post without at least 1. read more

Fast, efficient, straightforward, fair, honest all the great qualities you hope to find from a company when making major repairs to your home; these guys have it! They made a unexpected repair to the older home we purchased a comfortable experience, because, let's face it, no one likes to hear bad news when it comes to necessary repairs to your home. We certainly were not expecting this repair or expense, but....the pricing was fair and this company we found to be honest, knowledgeable and fair. I had this company clean our septic tank in early 2020 and called them to get an inspection on our septic tank completed. I didn't know the size of my septic tank and informed them that when I called for a quote. But I did inform them they had done a cleaning of our septic the year prior. They only asked me how many bedrooms I had and believed that I had a 1200 gallon tank. They quoted me at $695 and I set up a date a couple of weeks later for the service. On the day of our scheduled appointment they advised they had to cancel because the earlier appointment had taken longer than expected. The person on the phone advised me the quote was still $695 and advised me that they would be at my residence the next day, first thing in the morning. They didn't show up until around noon. Then after the person completed the inspection, they left my gravel area a mess. It had the rocks around it but they didn't level out the dirt/rocks and didn't spread out where the machine had driven over. The person then handed me an invoice of $795 and didn't know why the quote was different than the invoice. I contacted the company over the phone and she didn't know at first. She later called me saying that our septic tank was not 1200 gallon tank but a 1500 gallon. When I explained that I didn't know, she then informed me that she usually gets the invoice printed out the day prior to the scheduled appointment. When I told her that I was still quoted at $695 the day of the missed appointment, she didn't provide me an answer other than that the company had to make money. She didn't appear to care that her company had misquoted me several times and had wasted several hours of my time over two different days. If she would've quoted me at $795, after doing her research and finding, by looking on whatever website her company looks at for the size of someone's septic, I would've said thank you and gone with a different company and they would've gotten $0 from me. I am not sure if they hired some new people but don't recommend them. Only reason they get 1 star is because they did offer me $50 off the $795 price, which was still higher than a few other companies I had been quoted for. read more

I called in an emergency, they were at my place within an hour. Great service. The technician was very knowledgeable, hard working and did a great job. I would highly recommend Sunset Septic Services and would not hesitate to call them in the future...actually, I don't think I would call anyone else. read more
