It's been a year since our project with Sunset, and I'm finally writing a review. Here's the good, the bad, and the unusual. The good * Sunset is deeply knowledgeable about yard projects and pools, and their pricing was reasonable. * Although we already had paid-for design work from another agency, Steve tweaked and rendered updates to the yard at no charge. They also gave us special consideration on a putting green at nearly no cost. * José has a deep knowledge of plants and landscape. We like our backyard a lot--the plants have filled in beautifully and the overall look is very lush. * Most things have held up with little wear after a year, aside from a few broken sand-set pavers. * The whole yard photographs really well. * I've referred them to two friends- one finished his project in July. The bad * Our backyard doesn't appear to have been graded correctly before the rear fence went in. It's not very noticeable, but it was mentioned to me by the job-site manager's son. There's no drainage issues, just unusual info. * The job-site manager--whom we liked--was caught taking papayas from our neighbor (he even used a ladder). We were told he was removed from the project, but he later returned intermittently, so we mostly operated with a sometimes-manager. * We paid for a lemon tree, but that season's trees were diseased--we still don't have our lemon tree. * The pool looks great except for three issues: one jet was cut oddly and protrudes; a light isn't centered; and some grout added later is a noticeably brighter white than the rest. * the mini fridge was installed and the space for the door is not large enough. The door rubbing has damaged the stucco on the bar/grill area. The unusual * There were instances of needless, small lies. Because we have cameras, it was easy to cross-check whether someone had actually come by. At times I was told a visit or fix happened when it hadn't. I was even told a paver was broken and then fixed, but neither was true. My wife had similar conversations. * When I referred a friend (a large project), I was told I'd receive a $1,000 referral payment upon signing--very generous and not expected. When I checked in, it became payable at project completion. I just received it, and it was half--$500. I was also told the check had been made earlier, but it was dated the day it was delivered. I don't regret using Sunset--they offer strong expertise and fair pricing. I'd simply like the bar door fixed, the sand-set pavers replaced and our lemon tree delivered. --Josh read more

He returned my call and we had a scheduled first estimate but cancelled before I could mert him in person . I went with another "pushy" pool builder who I would NOT recommend (we are going into 7 months now and haven't even done the plastering), and the foreman never shows up, unless he wants a check!. Sunset Pools & Spas has given us a little slice of paradise! We just moved in and knew that a pool renovation was in our future. Cracked, uneven concrete, failed coping and old, worn plaster was everywhere. Basically the backyard hadn't been maintained for decades. Plus we wanted an in-ground Jacuzzi. We had a vision of what the backyard could be but cringed at the thought of a long remodel project. Enter Corey and Sunset P&S! He walked us through our expansive 'wish list' and gave us great suggestions along the way. No item was out of reach for his crew of professionals! The very next day the pool was drained and demo was started. We were shocked at how quickly his team worked and Corey (along with Efrain!) were there leading the way the entire time. 8 short weeks later and we had an entirely new backyard! 1800 sqft of new pavers, built in Jacuzzi and basically a brand new pool (added baja shelf and love seats). Also, along the way we decided to add a patio cover for a sitting area (with lights and fan). No problems there, Corey had his guys putting it up that week! We really couldn't recommend SP&S any higher, they get the job done quickly and professionally and we are extremely happy! Will recommend to everyone we know. A little side note: we, unexpectedly, needed a new gas line for the pool heater and the gas hook up was located on the other side of the house. NO problem for these guys! Corey and his team installed a new pool for us in the summer of 2021. Within 6 months the coping started fading and within 18 months it has started to completely fall apart and needs to be replaced. I contacted Corey many times, sent him pictures, and tried to discuss solutions, but Corey has not accepted any responsibility for the failure. He pointed out in the small print of the contract that they are not responsible for the concrete coping cracking or discoloring. It isn't just a cosmetic problem now, it is unsafe as the coping has started to break off and fall into the pool. Now I am having to spend thousands to get someone else to replace it. We interviewed several companies in the summer of 2023 to fully remodel our backyard and add a new pool. We don't have a huge backyard, so it was important we were able to find a design that maximized the space we had. It was apparent after talking with Steven Lewis that he had the vision we were seeking and put a rendering together that we fell in love with. Steven was also very forthright giving advice against costly features we originally thought we wanted. The pricing and timeline were very impressive. As with any renovation, it is always unknown how the subcontracting will go, budget overage and just overall experience. The timeline was way ahead of schedule, all the people involved were great (professional, courteous, clean, and quality workmanship). Steven was able to stay on his original budget (except for things we wanted to add on as we moved along, which should be expected with any project). We ended up with the backyard of our dreams and it only took about 7 weeks! Full demo to waterfall pool, spa, bar, multiple seating areas, turf, pavers, etc. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunset and Steven to anyone looking for a new, wonderful backyard! read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my friend and client of Sunset Pools. She was blocked by Corey from making an honest review of him and his company after walking away from the job unfinished and bad work. Attached you will see pictures of missing tiles that have been coming off steadily. Also, the bad design of the waterfall which only lasted about six months before it chipped off. The concrete patio that has been losing layers and leaves crumbs of concrete all around every time it gets wet. Sunset Pools should not be used. Update: I just saw his response. This is not true. No one ever fired them. The work WAS not ever finished. The job is still not done. He still has a chance to just go over and fix everything! Just fix it! I honestly can not believe as a business they would talk this way about anyone. Beware to all that Sunset Pools might not finish the job and then lie about you on Social Media. Totally impressed with the level of professionalism and the work provided. The gentlemen who performed the work surpassed any expectations I had. They were surprisingly quiet (not blasting loud music or speaking loudly) they were very pleasant smiling often and engaging when I needed to ask questions and were able to communicate well in English and I would guess they are fluent in Spanish too but English was what I speak. The work was done well, they delivered what was agreed upon from A to Z. Truly the appreciation came when they thoroughly cleaned up after the job was complete and left the area in my opinion better then it was before. Quite satisfying to see the job done, what I needed fixed fixed and being able to jut sit down and relax while watching my kids play and swim without me having to clean up anything. It was ready to enjoy I can't say I've ever experienced this before and I was so impressed I had to call the supervisor and thank him. When my wife and I first met Corey at Sunset Pools we thought he was the right guy for our pool remodeling project. He is a nice guy and he told us he would supervise his team throughout the entire project. Unfortunately, we quickly discovered our mistake. He doesn't have a team of guys. He subbed out the entire project. Instead of the local pool remodeling company we thought we hired, we got random people coming to our home to perform their specific job. With each subcontractor that came out, we noticed there was no supervision and no quality control. The quality of the work is average at best. The coping, tile, and deco seal are poorly installed. And the pool surface is uneven. The sides are not uniform or flat, but wavey with peaks and valleys. Corey was never on-site to supervise the work as promised. In fact, the only time he came out was to see if the subcontractor was finished so he could sub out the next phase and to pick up his next check. Some of the tile is missing grout and much of it has a film on it from poor cleaning. We've asked Corey to come out multiple times to address these issues, but we have been ignored. Corey is a nice guy, but he should not be remodeling pools. read more

After meeting with several potential pool contractors to have our pool resurfaced with pebble tech, and our concrete decking replaced with pavers, we chose Corey and Sunset pools to do our yard. Our pool was in ROUGH shape and hadn't been re-done for probably 30 years when we bought it. It was green and the paint was paint was peeling off by the time we hired someone to completely re-do it. Having spoken to multiple companies prior, we were left frustrated with the lack of response or over commitment, under delivery. One simple phone call to Sunset, resulted in a same day response from Danny Harris, and continued through the project review, consultations and project quote to finish. With no shortcuts on the design review or scope of work, required materials and projected scheduling, the project began within days of our initial conversation and fit our needs and budget. Having a new build construction property, the efforts made by Mr. Harris to communicate with our HOA and builder representatives was essential to moving the project forward. Most impressive was the pro-active communication received by Mr. Harris on items ranging from the daily construction schedule to the materials logistics, supply availability and delivery from local vendors. The project expenses were clearly disclosed, memorialized by contract and the payment installment plan per phase was budget friendly. Corey and his team did a great job on our pool and spa. It turned out even better than we expected. It was a new pool and not a remodel. They started demo on July 8, 2020 and were done by November. All of the workers were great and each crew does a specific step of the process that they are best at. There weren't many days off unless it was weather related. They work fast which is great because you hear of many projects that take forever. We even added glass tiles which take longer to cure. The travertine was something we added after the initial quote and of course that was extra money but other than that the add ons were minimal. I would recommend getting the salt pool with the system you can control with your phone. It makes operating the equipment super easy and you can schedule the water feature and lights to go on and off at certain times. There are always little hiccups when doing any home improvement project but working with someone like Corey that can get you through those things makes it much less stressful. read more

Last year my wife and I began shopping for bids to build a new swimming pool in our backyard. We obtained bids from three different pool contractors. One of the three contractors designed a pool based on what I envisioned. However, the amounts being quoted were MUCH more than what we wanted to pay. We were about to give up hope on building a pool when my neighbor referred me to Corey from Sunset Pools and Spas. Corey's team had recently built a beautiful pool for my neighbor. Corey came out and gave me a bid that was $30,000 less than the contractor who created the design I wanted!! You would think with such a lower price, the service, attention to detail or quality of the product would have been subpar. This was NOT the case! Corey was very professional from day one. He gave my wife and I a detailed presentation on the steps related with the process, products related to the pool, timelines and the contract to build our pool. Corey's presentation and attention to detail were just as good, if not better, than the other three contractors with higher bids. Corey's team was respectful and courteous throughout the process. They were always very responsive when I had questions related to the build. Corey always responded to my calls and texts in a timely manner. If my question required him to come to my home, Corey seemed like he was always right around the corner. I never felt like I was being ignored. Corey's team finished the pool on time and at cost! There were no "surprise costs" that came up during the build. The quality of the pool is exactly what I wanted and expected!
