There was nothing wrong with the breakfast or service. It just tasted...average, and low quantity. The impression I get, and I may be wrong, is that Hot Tin Roof breakfasts are for those customers staying at Ocean Key, and most likely are comped or the breakfast is part of the package. I have no clue about lunch or dinners at Hot Tin Roof. I had bacon, eggs, and chopped up potatoes. The bacon and eggs were just fine, I mean how do you screw that up? The potatoes were plain and not very much. Noting the breakfasts of the wife and kid, I felt the same....average at best. It left me for looking for an early lunch on Duval street. I believe they add an 18% "service charge" on the check regardless of size of party.

We had a reservation and were seated promptly at a table up front. Our server was over in flash and soon we were sharing the tuna watermelon ceviche, the lobster mac and cheese and the quesadilla. All were delicious! For our entrees, we had the chicken and waffles, scallops with more of that lobster mac and cheese (I said it was good!) the fresh catch of the day and a ceasar salad. The fresh catch came with an ear of corn that I made short work of! For dessert we devoured the banana bread french toast that was perfection! I will definitely add this to my list of "go tos" in Key West!

White tablecloths enhanced the classy vibe. The breakfast tacos and the warm brie platter were very flavorful but all of us were shocked by the zero personality and dismal attention from the one waiter upstairs at which time there were only four tables of customers. Aggravated, I walked around to find him in the bar room talking to another staff member who was eating to get his attention, and my fault for not speaking to the manager. He was awful and still got a 20% tip and should have gotten nothing but sometimes eateries share their tips with other employees who may be hard workers. Great location and paid good money for tasty food which was overshadowed by the horrible customer service.

This was our second time having breakfast here. Just be prepared for the current reservation policy -- there is a $50 reservation fee per person, and you need to arrive on time for your scheduled boat. Definitely something to plan ahead for. The food was very good. I had the Benedict with salmon, and the smoked salmon was absolutely amazing -- probably the best I've ever had! My husband doesn't eat pork, so his menu options were a little more limited, and I do wish they had more seafood choices for breakfast. We visited in September, so keep in mind that Key West can be very hot. You may have to choose between enjoying the beautiful outdoor view and staying cool!

Our waitress was attentive, kind, and even with a lot of customers on her plate, she handled us with equal care and attention. Nothing out of this world, greasy sausages and ham, etc. Kind of like a Denny's. Ambiance was nice, the place has an old-school charm. Tables were clean, oldies were playing. Lovely space. The tapas format made it easy to try a variety of dishes, and everything we ordered was flavorful and well prepared. There wasn't a single plate that made us wish we'd ordered something else.
