I had been a patient of Dr. Noda's (at that same location) for more than 35 years and was willing to drive from south Mission Viejo to Huntington Beach because of my trust in his quality of care. When he retired I considered finding a new optometrist closer to my home, but ended up having to see her because a change was needed in my eyeglass lens after Dr. Noda retired. Dr. Tran and her office staff were outstanding in quickly having the lens exchanged at no additional cost to me. Given my first visit experience with Dr. Tran I made the decision to have my annual visit there as well. Dr. Tran is outstanding - she is very thorough, explains every test and answers all your questions. She is friendly, respectful, and truly committed to getting you the best solution to improve your vision. She told me if my new glasses do not work out to just let her know and she will change them. Let me start by saying I hadn't been to the optometrist or updated my prescription since middle school, so to say I was nervous coming in after so long is an understatement. Luckily, I found Sunset Optometry through my insurance and was able to book a much needed appointment quickly. Melina, who handled my pre-testing before I met with Dr. Nguyen, was incredibly patient and understanding. She took the time to explain each test and what it was for, which really helped me feel more comfortable. When I met with Dr. Nguyen, she immediately put me at ease. She was thorough and thoughtful while perfecting my prescription, carefully walking me through each option and giving me time when I felt unsure. She also explained my astigmatism in a way that was easy to understand. I had no idea I even had astigmatism before! On top of that, she was able to identify the cause of my eye irritation and recommended eye drops that have been extremely helpful. After my exam, I went back out to choose a pair of glasses, and Melina jumped right in to help again. She spent a good amount of time walking me through different frames, explaining how things like weight and nose pads can make a big difference in comfort. To top it all off, she actually picked out the pair I ended up loving and chose to get! I'm so excited to get my new glasses and incredibly grateful to both Dr. Nguyen and Melina for making the entire experience so comfortable and positive. Such a great doctor and a friendly staff! I called this office to get an appointment and they were so polite on the phone and even verified my insurance for me on the spot! The receptionist told me my copay immediately I came to my appointment exactly on time and I waited for about 5 minutes. I had to do the eye machine where it blows air into my eye and I messed up every time, but they were so nice, patient, and encouraging to me!! The lady kept telling me how I can do it and that the 6th time the charm LOL. My old office would get so upset but that's my natural reflex *eye roll* The doctor was super friendly too. He was so easy to talk to and this is coming from someone who is so awkward around people I'm not familiar with. He is such a nice guy! He even gave me good life advice since I told him I was stressing about school I would recommend going to this office! My husband and I had been patients of Dr. Noda's for many years, but found the drive to Huntington Beach from our home in Mission Viejo after retirement fairly exhaustive. So we found an eye doctor just around the corner. BIG MISTAKE - HUGE!!! Both of us had to return our glasses three times - and this new provider STILL couldn't get our prescriptions right or the glasses to fit! My favorite guy! I found this place by searching the list providers by my insurance. I can describe Dr. Noda as warm, friendly professional. He cares and you can see he loves his job. He takes time to make sure you get a good service, takes time explaining and answering any questions. He is super funny and super friendly and you will feel so comfortable at his office. When I went for the first time to his office and talked to him, I felt that I knew him for years. His office is nice and his staff is friendly. I don't think I've been to an optometrist this good since I was in my teens (so add a few decades ago) in the Midwest. First, I'd moved to HB last year and realized I was overdue for my contact lens appointment. I picked a place close to my house (Clarity Eye Group) only to show up and have them tell me that there was this fee for $xx and another fee for $xxx. Needless to say, I was trapped there and not happy that all of of these new costs were explained to me 10 minutes before my appointment (and if I left, I would have been charged for the visit anyway... ugh!). However, NOT HERE! I called up, asked for details on costs and the office staff explained everything - and they were true to their word! Anything they couldn't answer, they called me back within a few hours and gave me final costs. When I went in for the exam, the staff also double-checked that I was okay with certain add-ons. Dr. Noda was a explained all kinds of things about vision and eye exams, as well as giving me suggestions for the future and improving my "close" vision so I won't need bifocals. His inner office is like a trip into the 70s - enjoy the wood paneling and interesting art, but his technology is all state of the art. My one caution, if you don't like to have a conversation about what you're using your eyes for, or if your private life (in a very general sense) is off limits, this may not be the place for you (as an example, we discussed how my commute - 3-4x a week, an hour each way and how much time I spend on my computer - I could see someone feeling that was 'too personal'.) Otherwise, this is a great office and a great eye exam - go here! read more
