It was such an awful experience! I'm still heated from this place. Other than Dr. Nguyen and the younger staff, everyone was rude. When I called to make an appointment for a contact lenses fitting and asked if they accept insurance? The lady rudely asked, "Is it Medi-Cal!?" I thought that was rude and strange. But I proceeded to make the appointment. After the eye exam, I wanted to purchase at least a three month contacts lenses through them and use the rest of my insurance money, either it's Acuve or MyDay (kept pointing out they sucked), which is very expensive but I wanted to at least support them. So as I was ready to leave, they told me I had a charge for contact lenses fitting. I was confused because I came in for a contact lenses fitting and not for glasses. And I thought I was transparent about that. But I got charged for glasses and contact lenses exam. From my experience, I never had to pay for a co-pay with this insurance. So when I asked about the co-pay, the male doctor rudely said, "They took it out of your contact lenses allowance." Regardless, I wouldn't have mind paying for the contact lenses exam if they were transparent about it in the beginning. I thought businesses should practice that way, be very upfront about the co-pay. It's was the principle that made me so angry. So when I called to cancel my order of my contact lenses, I told them to email me my prescription/Rx. The mean lady started lecturing to me like I was a little kid about how I should try the two brands of contact lenses before I make a decision. I felt they were try to make it difficult. I had enough of their attitude and how they do business. I told them to just email it to me. So the next day, I called again because they didn't email me the Rx, and they seem they couldn't find me. Lol! The lady asked, "Are you sure you got your eye exam here?" I'm so glad I had a receipt. Finally, Nicole was able to find my Rx and email it to me. I finally made an appointment with an optometrist which was 3 years overdue. I am thankful to have found HB Optometry. Ivan and his staff were fast, efficient, and kind. During my exam, Ivan was able to identify a scratch on my eye, and paused the exam and suggested that I take an antibiotic for my eye, and come back later. A month later, I came back with a fully healed eye. Ivan continued the test. EVERY time I come here I have to come back because of some issue or another!! This is the WORST place ever!! They have NO problem letting you drive over only to lie to your face. My new vision insurance had just kicked in, so I came here on a quiet Wednesday evening to browse for some new eye glass frames and lenses. I couldn't be more pleased with the level of expertise and excellent customer service that Shilah provided me throughout my entire purchase process! She made sure to explain all the different types of lens options, coating options, and this was definitely something a lot of optometrists should be transparent and knowledgeable about. Shilah also went out of her way to investigate adding clip-ons to my current frame (these are very difficult to find online and you would be best served to try these on before purchasing). An amazing experience and will update once I receive my new frame and lenses! This is the most expensive optometrist office I have ever been to and I will never be back. I went in for lens replacement (because my insurance wouldn't cover new glasses this year) and asked for progressives with a simple protective coating and it was $250 AFTER INSURANCE. I found out later that they had added on every possible upgrade to my lenses. Even my insurance company agreed that something seemed off considering my eye glasses purchase history and the fact that I had no special conditions. The doctor seemed nice and competent enough, but WATCH OUT for the front office. read more

The office is immaculate and the front office staff and technician were wonderful. The office has a great selection of frames and glasses to choose from if need be. Great experience! Found Dr. Tsai on yelp of course, and came here for my annual eye check-up. It was very easy and I got an appointment for the same day. The whole shop was very clean and I was taken in immediately, the whole check-up took 15min and I walked out with a prescription. I then ordered glasses online, and once I started wearing them, I noticed that they made me extremely dizzy and gave me a super headache. So I called the office and the office staff told me I could come in again for another check-up to see what's wrong with the new glasses. Dr. Tsai once again thoroughly checked my eyes, and told me that for some reason my left eye did not like the astigmatism correction in my glasses even though I do need it. So he kindly gave me a new prescription and I was able to order new glasses and now I'm very happy with them. read more

I have been going to HB Optometry for nearly 10 years now, ever since they opened in Huntington Beach, and once you have experienced their service you won't go anywhere else. The practice is run by a husband and wife team, where Dr Ivan Tsai pretty much does the exams and the back room work and his wife, Dr Shilah Tsai looks after the front of the store. Now if you have only experienced Lens Crafters or one of the other chain stores you owe it to your self to give a smaller independent a try. The level of service you will receive will astound you by comparison, why, well they honestly care! Now I'm used to eye exams, and the all get very samey, so when a Dr goes that extra mile then you know you are in good hands. They also have all the new high tech gizmo's, not to make their like easier, but to get the patient the best service, how novel. This is also where I found something out, we have all had the dilation drops in our eyes, and then been unable to see to 2 hours, so I was surprised when Dr Ivan offered the "reversal drops", once the "dilated exam" had been done, I had no idea they even existed. The other thing is they will give you honest feedback and help you, it's not all about the sale, but about making you a customer for life. I have worn glasses all my life, and if you do you tend to get stuck in a particular style that you like and suit you. Well last time I bought glasses I wanted a complete change, and they made it easy. I had no Idea what wanted, I just wanted a change, Dr Shilah spent way to much time suggesting frames, colors, and styles, and even when I found the one I liked she explained how they could then further customize the lens size to give me the vision I wanted. Try getting that from the chain store on commission. The last thing is, they stand behind their products. The new glasses I bought developed small chips in the corner, and rather than try and blame me, Dr Shilah simply called the lab, discussed what had happened, and then sent them back for repair, at no cost to me. How many other places would you get that without a fight? Finally, the only slight downside, is if you don't have insurance they can be a tad more expensive than a chain store, but you are getting one on one personal service, they stand behind their work 100%, a suburb eye exam, and as I said earlier, they actually care, so the price difference is worth it. So, give Huntington Beach Optometry a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped in recently while shopping at Von's to see if I could pay someone to put a pin in the arm of my sunglasses that had just broken. Apparently this is outside of their pay grade as I was told only the doctor can fix broken glasses. Offered to pay for the screw but no sale. Staff working the front desk were rude and helpless. This is the first optometrist office I've been in where the staff cannot help a customer with a simple glasses fix. Have no comments to make about the Doctor since I've never seen him/her. We drove 40 mins in traffic to come here and were rejected service as we ran a bit late.
