This place is a hidden gem. It is located in the plaza all the way in the corner. The front office is very kind to you in that they respond with a smile which I really appreciate, even on the phone. My last visit here with Ryan Funai was amazing. He was very knowledgeable in caring for my eyes by lowering the prescription that my previous ophthalmologist had put me on. It immediately allowed my eyes to rest because even though the prescription was not as strong, I was able to see better. He was also very wise in terms of the anatomy and physiology of the health of the eye. It was sad to see him since has moved on from this location. The technician who did intake for me was very nice and efficient. She definitely knew her stuff. However, I think it may be a bit too sterile in that she was too efficient that any personable, bedside manners with patients were lost in the process. I felt like I was being whisked away from one machine to another without a chance to catch my breath. Dr. Yim, the owner of this place, did have excellent bedside manners. He greeted me, allowed me to talk, as well as informing me of what was going on with my eyes. He had an excellent tone when speaking to me, almost radio-like ASMR quality. He really shines when he asks which lens is better, "1 or 2?" He was not condescending at all and was very personable in that he meets you where you're at in terms of understanding. He does a very good job of "accommodating" you (pun intended) throughout the process of an eye exam as well as recommending additional services that is covered within your service to make sure your pupils are in great health such as a pupil dilation follow up. The optician, Laura, was very nice to me and did not try to hard sell me on any optical wear. I felt like I could decline at any moment. She answered all my questions patiently. Overall, I would recommend coming here for your eye exam if your insurance covers it. read more

the type of care is dishonest. They oversell and underdeliver. I came to the clinic for eye disease management, light sensitivity related to dry eyes and possible glaucoma. The receptionist asserted their experience with this type of problem, so I scheduled an appointment and paid for a doctors visit. I expected expertise, what I got was nonchalant dismissal. "Im not sure what it is but try (insert expensive product)." His treatment doesnt work. When I called back to schedule a follow-up, the administrator could not guarantee any consolation of non-treatment. Why am I paying this doctor to guess his way around condition? no. read more

Hats off to Pacific Eye Care! I have been using Pacific Eye Care for over 5 years and have always experienced exemplary service from the entire staff but my most recent experience was over the top. My eyeglass frames failed due to a manufacturers defect and the frames were on backorder. It was looking like they would not be available for many weeks. Nevertheless, between Susan, Laura & Marivel they somehow found a replacement frame and switched out my lenses in record time. I have visited MANY optometrists over my lifetime. Dr. Yim and his entire staff are THE BEST office i have ever visited: they are exceptional. They use several of the most modern technologies in the field, which takes a lot of guesswork out, and allows for more informed decision-making. I originally found them because I was looking for a contact lens specialist. I have needed corrective lens since I was a child, so I am qualified to evaluate these guys. I have never been so taken care of at a doctor's office as compared to my experience at Pacific Eye Care. The front desk staff is so friendly and efficient and made checking in easy, despite it being my first time at the office. They were very warm and welcoming, unlike most drab offices. I noticed during the work up before the exam that a test I did at Target Optical last year, was FREE at Pacific Eye Care...FREE. It really showed me that this office tries the best to take care of you. Additionally, I was very impressed by the new equipment and how knowledgable all the staff was. Dr. Yim was very thorough during the exam portion too, and explained each step of his process so that I knew what was going on, unlike other Dr's where it's just awkwardly silent the entire time. When it came to picking out glasses, I didn't feel rushed at all. The optician took his time to help me pick a frame I loved, and walked me through the various types of lenses. Overall, I just appreciate how everyone took their time to ensure that my experience would go smoothly. I had an eye emergency and need to see an eye doctor right away... at 11pm. I called the number on the website and an optometrist answered! They squeezed me in the next morning (unbelievably). The staff was incredibly friendly! The equipment was up to date. The doctor was so nice! He gave a prescription and asked to follow up in a week. They even gave me a doctor's note for work. I have been coming to pacific eye care since I was a little girl (about 17 years) and I have never felt like anything less than family. The staff all remember me and ask how my mom is, how this or that event went for me, you get the picture. It's a very kid-friendly office, as they have a corner dedicated to toys and books. They are flexible with changing appointments and with creating new ones if you have an issue with your eyewear. Dr. Yim has been my specialist as long as I can remember, and he really stands out to me because he makes me feel like he genuinely cares on a person to person level, in addition to a doctor-patient level. Whenever I have had issues, he is extremely patient in finding the root of the problem, even when it takes multiple visits (at no additional charge). His attention to detail and kind bedside manner put me at ease. A beautiful, clean facility with pleasant, positive staff. We have been seeing Dr Yim for a year and a half, and we're very happy with his bedside manner, and his positive personality. I came here after coming to the realization that playing the trombone should be left to musicians and not those of us who are having trouble reading things close-up. I was looking for something a little more convenient than my current eye care spot, and liked what Yelpers had to say. The staff here is very friendly, and they have established a professional and comfortable office atmosphere. Everything was clearly explained from the pre-tests to the exam and finally the new glasses that were required. I received a very thorough explanation of what is going on with my eyes, and had a couple of moments of, "Oh, that's why that happens!" Wow...Dr. Yim did email personally, but I was a bit thrown by a couple of excuses so I wanted some time formulate my thoughts before I responded, but since he sent a refund check and opted to copy and paste his email here, I will respond here as well. 1) Responsibility for the insurance debacle is accepted. 2) This excuse is not accepted. I may not be familiar with the proper terminology to use when I described the lenses, but I gave a very clear description of what was changed about them to Kristie. When I asked her if they were the same lenses as last year and was curt with me replied, "what are you talking about?" I couldn't have described in more detail what I was referring to. As I said before, she took only three seconds to say "yes, they are the same." If, as Dr. Yim said, it was my actual prescription, then no, it was not the same, hence the reason I needed new glasses. I was referring to the lens material. And, my 2016 lenses were not in fact plastic, they are polycarbonate, and Kristie dismissed me by not truly taking the time nor the care to double-check. The material was confirmed by my new optometrist office when they called to get the information and I was standing right there when it was confirmed - it was clear that the 2015 material was plastic and the 2016 was polycarbonate. So the summary of the details are not true which is why I have had incredible difficulty with my glasses. If Kristie had any genuine concern as is being stated, she should have asked Dr. Jankowski for any final confirmation. I wasn't walking feeling as if anyone had lied to me from this office, I was only walking away knowing that a couple of the office staff are incredibly rude and do not perform their jobs to the best of what they should (I cannot say ability because I am not certain what this is). And, when faced with this knowledge instead of owning the responsibility, Kristie has clearly altered facts. I am not confident that she remembers three seconds of her day from a year ago. However, I remember it well because of how rude she was and how I needed to ensure the glasses were correct. Additionally, the insurance debacle caused an incredible amount of stress in my life and although this office FINALLY accepted responsibility, it wasn't without a tremendous amount of grief. The rest of the staff is wonderful, but girl who handled the insurance situation in the back was very challenging to speak with as well. Gina, Carmen, Karen, and Dr. Jankowski are amazing. I had my first appointment at Pacific Eye Care on Saturday, and I am extremely happy to have found the office on Yelp. Everyone I interacted with, either by phone or in person, was pleasant and willing to go out of their way to help me. Since it had been far too long since my last eye exam, I was pretty much starting from scratch. The office has all the latest technology, which meant for an additional $39, I didn't even have to have my eyes dilated. Completely worth the cost, in my opinion. Dr. Jankowski was very thorough and I didn't feel rushed at all during my appointment. One of the office staff members even apologized that I had to wait five or ten minutes while the doctor finished up with his previous patient. In short, I would definitely recommend this office, and I personally will not go anywhere else! read more

Today was my first time at Pacific Eye Care, and I have to say this is the only place I will go to. First, you can make your appointment on-line even as a first time patient. So convenient! The staff at the front desk are also very nice. Second, they were pretty much on time with my appointment. I hardly had to wait at all - most of the wait was on me because of some paperwork I had to fill out. Third, they have all the latest high tech gadgets. I have never had my pupils dilated. I have only gotten my eyes checked once before and they never did that. I was fearful of having to have this done. Well, for $39 out of pocket you can have them use a machine that scans your eyes instead. Well worth the money in my opinion. Remember, this part is not covered by your insurance. Fourth, Dr. Yim is the best! He answered every single one of my questions and put me at ease. I like that he tries for a simple solution to try to address an issue with your eyes to see if that works and not automatically to something more aggressive (or expensive). And finally, the staff that handles ordering your lenses and frames are great. I never felt pressured to buy anything I didn't want. They even saved me money by using my existing frames to up my prescription. This allowed me to purchase sunglasses with my prescription as well; and let me add I was able to get polarized Ray Bans at an extremely great price! Thank you Pacific Care! Love Dr. Jankowski and Dr. Yim. They are both excellent doctors who really want you to maintain excellent eye heath. I have referred my brother, my mom and my co-worker. They ALL would give both doctors 5 stars. I met Dr. J when I lived in HB, I now drive the distance because they are worth it. They even have Saturday appointments as I work far away. Also, after 5 years of excellent support, Dr. J and Dr. Yim supported my brother and I both through a LASIK procedure with their associate. My brother's glasses were so thick! My vision was bad enough where I wore contacts or glasses daily. We both are 20/20 and life a better quality of life without the hassle and COST of glasses and contacts. read more

Walter Yim and everyone at Pacific Eye Care provide the best service and care for my eyeballs! I've been a patient here for around 2+ years now and every visit is a delight (as much as a visit to the optometrist can be, haha!) I can always ask Dr. Yim any question regarding my vision no matter how weird or far-fetched it might seem in my head and he'll always give you a sound, easy-to-understand explanation. They have a great selection of eye wear there, too. Over the years, I've gotten contacts exams & contacts as well as 2 pairs of glasses from them! They're really good at fitting/ sizing glasses and I have a weird shaped head so I really appreciate the effort they take to assist my needs. You won't ever feel rushed or get products pushed on you here. Their facility and entire shopping complex for that matter is clean and orderly with plenty of parking outside and places to sit inside. They even have a cute little toddler/ kids section which is a nice touch! I used to get my glasses & contacts with Costco, JC Penny, & Lenscrafters, but after coming here, I'll never go back - their customer service and quality care is just superior. read more
