Sunset lounge is an awesome bar in Fullerton. Good service and friendly staff. They have a pool table, some arcade games and best of all, they have karaoke! James the KJ is awesome. My friends and I come here pretty often for karaoke, and it is rare to find a place that has decent karaoke where you can also sing more than once in a single night. The KJ Chris does song rotations, so everyone gets to sing once before anyone sings twice. There are lots of regulars but also newcomers just out to have fun. It's not a snobby atmosphere that some karaoke joints can have. The song selection is great. I recommend coming early and on a weeknight, it can get busy on Friday and Saturday and they typically have only one bartender working at a time. This place is definitely a dive, though. Several months ago I would have rated this only at 3 stars because they allowed smoking inside. That has changed, however, the air is clear to breathe. The drinks are cheap, though not the best, and they don't have any draft beer either. This is a typical dive karaoke bar. I have been here twice both times late on a Friday night. The drinks are cheap, but they don't have draft :( which is a big bummer for me. My group and I usually like to get a pitcher before we embarrass our-selfs with karaoke. I have been to other karaoke places that I prefer over this place, Tomkats in Buena park to name one. I really like this place, its laid back and unpretencious. I feel most at home in empty dive bars. I came here on a Wed night looking for some karaoke, we were informed by the bartender that this is THE BEST selection of karaoke any where in the area. I believe the books had 80,000 songs. Karaoke starts at 9:30 in Wed night, the guy running it is super cool. He was such a nice guy and even offered me a few pointers when I wasn't holding the mic close enough. People here are super friendly and are pretty good singers. There were about 5 of us on rotation singing songs, at a certain point we stopped putting in slips and were just being called up which has never happened to me at a bar on karaoke night. It is a good system and has high quality sound. You also get submitted into a raffle everytime you sing a song, to win 25 dollars cash. Another plus was that the pool table was 50 cents a game, there were also some coin operated darts as well. The bar is pretty sizable with lots of stools and tables, it isnt too dark or dingy. I didn't really order a lot of drinks that night but I was happy to see that egg nog was on the menu if you feel festive I suggest ordering it. There is a standard beer selection mostly domestic stuff. Bartender Laura was also super sweet, we told her it was my friend's birthday and ordered a shot of Jameson which was gratis. This place really tops list for me, its spacious, has fun people, and really good service. I would def come back to sing and drink some more, or just to come hang out and play pool. read more

As far as dive bars go, Sunset Lounge is one of the diviest. Pros: Coin Op pool tables. Electronic dart boards. Excellent karaoke. Cheep drinks. Cons: Smoking. Horrible service (even for a dive bar). I had a good time because of the people I was with. But when a friend of mine asks for water 3 times and never gets it until I order myself a drink and refuse to pay until the bartender gets her her water it really makes me mad. There's just no excuse for completely ignoring a customer. The cigarette smoke was so bad I got undressed on my front porch and left my clothes outside when I got home. I woke up with a scratchy throat and a non-alcohol induced headache. The crowd was pretty cool--a good mix of people that all seemed to get along. And another highlight, the Wednesday night KJ has this amazing mullet combover hairstyle that can't be described with mere words--it needs to be seen to be believed. read more

Went here for a b-day celebration and when we walked in about 9pm it was quiet, but within 30 minutes, the place was packed. They have karaoke and the KJ seems to do a pretty decent job. Not really a connoisseur of it, but there wasn't a shortage of people to get up and belt one out for us. Plenty of room, not your typical dive bar where you are squished and feel like if they turned on the lights, there would be a small little creature sharing your beer. It was light and bright in there. One pool table, 3 dart boards (kind of in a weird place, felt almost like you were in peoples way) and 2 of those addicting electronic game machines that suck down your money faster than a slot machine in Vegas! Bartender poured a pretty good drink from what I am told, I was DD so can't comment on that. My O'Douls beer was cold :-/ Not too sure when I will get back there, but seemed like a fun place to hang out if I was ever in the area again. I'm hoping I can get them to give it another shot, because I really do love Sunset, chris has always been awesome! I've been coming here since 2005 and love that they have revamped and updated the bar, and the Karaoke. But tonight the Karaoke host was ridiculous. I've been hosting karaoke in OC and LA for 10 years and this girl has no clue as to how to run a rotation. She doesn't allow duets, and when she does, they aren't allowed to have separate songs in the next rotation, only one of them can sing which is bull. Never in the 13 years of running Karaoke have I heard that a couple couldn't sing solo in a rotation. I also understand patrons buying shots for KJ's but when they take them on stage and are obviously drunk and taking "bribes" from people to be bumped, you need to re think the hiring of KJs or at the very least teach them how to deal with a rotation. We had a huge group of first timer sunset crew and spent a lot of money, multiple times, which sucks when you bring new people and it's a horrible experience because of one KJ. Makes me want to go back to our other place and I hate that. read more

It's a divey, fun, and casual spot. Drink offerings are simple, decent, and reasonably priced. The taco truck that stops there late at night gives this place some extra bonus points. The crowd is casual, chill, and diverse without one demographic dominating. It's a welcoming place that provides some comical entertainment if you enjoy drunk people making asses of themselves attempting karaoke, and you might even actually hear someone that has a little bit of talent. One is my limit, otherwise, I have to go. I STILL can't fit in the bathroom stall here. Honestly, the only thing they'd have to do, in my opinion (granted, I'm no ADA specialist), is knock out the toilet stall wall and put a lock on the bathroom door, effectively making it a one person bathroom. I'd be happy with that. Now in terms of the tables and bar, well, there's no low spot in the bar. It'd be nice if the whole back side of the bar was low (length-wise, it's meant for about two people, anyways, which would be perfect), and plus, it's a straight shot to the hall where the bathroom is. I'm to the point to where I don't really care about low tables, except for when I have to eat something, or if I'm trying to talk to someone and I honestly can't hear them if they're up higher, given some background noise, as well. It would also be nice if the tables were all low as well, or at least whatever is in the line of sight from the space at the bar that I'm referring to, and the karaoke stage. there's also no ramp to the stage, but I can deal with that (and have), at least much better than the junk of a stage with the railing they had up until recently. read more

Ok first of all the name "Sunset Lounge" evokes many things that are in no way related to this bar...just FYI. I mean, I didn't have high expectations, it is in a strip mall. The beer was cheap, $2.75 domestic and $3.75 imports. A $3.75 Stella was the cheapest Stella I have ever had in the states. Yay for that. The karaoke seems to be the main draw here, these people are bout it, bout it. My first dive/karaoke bar I've been to! Went on a Sunday night around 9:30/10pm and it wasn't too lively, but as it got later into the night the bar got packed. The crowd is mainly caucasians and people in their mid 20's/older. They have a really huge selection of karaoke songs in this big folder that looks like 2 encyclopedias stacked together. They have every song ranging from lady gaga to oldies. It will take a while for your turn to karaoke and you pretty much will be able to go only once. The day I went it seemed like most of the people liked country music, but there was also a variety too. There is one billard table, but there's always people playing it so you'll have to wait a while. There are also 3 dart tables. Beers are pretty cheap about $4. Okay, so Sunset is a little on the "dive-y" side of the bar spectrum, but so what?! As far as dives go, it's actually one of the cleaner establishments I've been to. I once warned a friend, "Yeah, it's a dive bar" and when she arrived, she actually said that she "expected worse". ;) They have darts, a pool table, and a juke box for nights when they don't have karaoke. Since I'm a karaoke FIEND myself, I can vouch that it's a pretty rad place to spend a Friday or Saturday night. The crowd here is eclectic...hipsters, thirty-and-forty-somethings, old timers, etc. You can certainly tell there are a lot of regulars, which is generally a good sign; it means people keep coming back! The KJ here is awesome, and the bartenders are extremely sweet, including Jennifer. She seems to remember her customers, even after they haven't been there in a while (for me, it was at least a few months). Their drinks are cheap, the atmosphere is energetic, and it's a helluva lot better than Downtown Fullerton (read: the douchebag factor isn't as high).
