Class of '75 had their 40th Reunion here last week. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Let's start with 3 weeks before the event I called to ask about the menu since I have some dietary restrictions. I was told the menu hadn't been finalized yet. I should call back the following week. Really? Then how did the committee know how much to charge? The next week I tried calling. The first 4 times, nobody answered the phone. The 5th time, I called a different number and was transferred. Again, nobody answered the phone but I left a very detailed messaged and asked for a return phone call. Nobody called. I got into town, the Tuesday before the event and was on their doorstep on Wednesday morning. I explained I was just trying to plan ahead. The woman read me the menu. I asked if they could grill a piece of chicken and steam some veggies for me. She said it wouldn't be a problem. Wrong. The night of the event, when I ask for my meal, I was handed a plate with beef on it. When I explained I had asked for chicken, the man (tall, balding, glasses, mustache, shitty attitude) replied "it was a choice of beef or chicken". Yes, I choice chicken and this wasn't chicken. It was clear he wasn't going to try and right the situation. To make it worse, the beef turned out to be a piece of left over prime rib that had been cut to look like a steak and then reheated till it was gray in color. At this point, I should mention I'm a retired professional cook and I do know the difference. So I ended up with 2 huge pieces of broccoli (apparently nobody knows how to break down a stalk of broccoli), that was under cooked. But hey, at least it was fresh (from the looks of it, it was the only thing fresh that was served that night). Fast forward to dessert. I wandered back in off the back deck for a cup of coffee. Again, the man with the shitty attitude yelled at my friend and me that coffee and dessert wasn't available till after the speeches. I inquired as to a gluten free option and he said nobody had ordered one. To which I replied, I had on Wednesday when I order my gluten free meal. "And you got your meal" was his reply. No, I didn't and wasn't dessert included with meal? At this point, I was thoroughly pissed off. Not wanting to make a scene, I reminded him that this was exactly what Yelp! was for and I would be posting a review. He just gave me a dirty look and I walked away. As for the other things: 1. It was an open bar. The drinks were so watered down it was impossible to even get a buzz off them (I don't drink much anymore, classmates reported this). Plus side - it was below bottom shelf stuff so it was probably a good thing. 2. It was suppose to be a buffet for dinner. The same guy with the shitty attitude was behind the table with the servers making sure people didn't take too much. After all, how was he going to fill those 18 or so take out boxes to the brim to feed the staff if the people who actually paid $65 a head for the food ate it? Yes, one of my classmates opened them and checked it out. I should also mention that when you got within 3 feet of the buffet table, you were knocked over by the fishy smell. Fresh fish doesn't smell. 3. When dessert was finally served, if you weren't quick you didn't get any. Dessert was probably only out for about 20 minutes. I didn't know they still made Sanka. 4. When it was time for the event to end, again the guy with the attitude, thought it would be a great idea to flash and shut the lights off inside. Those of us out on the back deck got locked out. When we hadn't left the deck area, at 11:20 pm he came out on the deck and rudely announced "We are closing, I've locked the doors." He stopped short of telling us to get the hell out. Wow. If you don't mind serving food to your guests that probably came off a Sysco freezer truck, inferior drinks and dealing with management with a bad attitude then this is the place for your next event. I've never eaten such expensive broccoli before and it wasn't even organic. read more

Looks like not only do they not pay their vendors but also have not returned money for event that had to be cancelled. Contract reads deposit non refundable, remainder of money due 2 weeks prior to event. Two months prior to the event my niece cancelled her wedding (not by her choice) she had pre paid the event as she wanted to get as much of the wedding paid before hand as possible. When she cancelled she was told give us a few weeks & you'll get everything but the deposit back. It has been 4 months, still nothing, Andy won't return phone calls.....I could understand if this was cancelled and the food had been ordered, etc. The customer service is non-exist as we cannot get a response. read more

we had our wedding here last night and our engagement party last year in the smaller room. The food. we did buffet out of this world delicious !!! There is a wide variety and something for everyone. The Staff well informed,polite and happy to serve. they kept on top of everything from serving to clearing the tables. as far as young as another person wrote. yes they are. well trained and vetted. There is no trash working here and it's good to see young people working. we all got out start somewhere. The rooms we had our engagement party in the smaller room. It was like a mini wedding. the room is beautiful and there is an outside deck. we had our wedding last night in the large room. picture perfect.down to the last detail. and I double down on my previous comments. The price Reasonable to a fault, for what you get and the quality there is no doubt in my mind that I got my money's worth plus plus. when hosting any event there is some worry or concerns about everything. we had peace of mind knowing we were in good hands and all would be taken care of. I am not one to write reviews yet I rely on them when shopping or booking.... Sunset Harbour deserves a review! I had my daughters sweet 16 Saturday November 17th and what an amazing experience we had. I was that mom with a million and one questions and never once did anyone get annoyed with me - my questions were answered and then some. Andy is the owner and is very hands on - the place is beautiful and sells it self but his approach and kindness for me - he makes you feel like family - He is not looking to take anyone's money - he truly wants you and your guests to have an amazing experience. Once I booked, Alicia in the office helped me every step of the way and came to me the day of the event to introduce herself - a hand shake with this staff didn't suffice - I hugged them all - as did my daughter! The event itself turned out amazing - the photos of the sunset - the staff - the food - everything was PERFECT and I couldn't have asked for a better location. It is a hidden gem on the marina and AFFORDABLE! Highly recommend Sunset Harbor! read more

My family and I have had many events here. A sweet sixteen, baby shower, and engagement party. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the great service and food. People rave about my engagement party saying it was better than many weddings they have been to. The facility is right on the water and the large room is very open and bright. On first glance, the Tiki bar looks a little out of place for Long Island... but a group of us came after a paddle boarding lesson we had on the Marina, and we were AMAZINGLY surprised by the friendly service, how fresh the food was, and how GOOD it was. I honestly had a hard time choosing on the menu and I went with traditional fish & chips to stay on the safe side - but the other people in my group got salads (ahi tuna), and paninis and it was SO SO delicious/amazing. The first negative was no valet parking at our event , such a nice place should have had valet parking . The hors d'oeuvres that we had were good however I think they were from either Costco or BJs which is a good thing if your having a house party . The drinks were great and considering the fact that they used house liquor I thought it was good . The main course was the best thing I had . I ordered steak and it was good they cooked it well seasoned it well and was good. My fiancée had shrimp scampi and it was good she is usually hard to please with food but she liked it . The Pasta was marinated with some red sauce and I thought it was good . They also had bread circulated and I thought it was well . Overall I would give this place a 3 and say it's not for weddings it's more for party's or celebrations . read more

Had a fundraiser for 400 people Andy and his staff were beyond amazing and helpful. They helped me set up and kept in contact until the day of the event. They even did a follow up call after they accommodated us every way possible. Our guests loved the atmosphere and food was Delicious. We will def have events here in the future read more

All I have to say is Sunset Harbour was everything my sister could have asked for for her wedding. Andy and Cristina were amazing and treated us like we were family. The staff was very polite and attentive. You can't beat the location on the water in the marina and the photos taken of my sister and husband during the sunset are stunning. We used both rooms (one for cocktail hour and the other for the reception) and they were both absolutely beautiful. We loved how many food choices we had during the tasting that when it came to the ones chose to be served during the wedding the guests were more then satisfied. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to have the wedding of his or her dreams. read more

Attended a wedding was terrible..the staff was young experienced seems no one was in charge very slow..the parents table got the worst service I have ever seen at a wedding...the food was terrible and served cold...It was a family member and I feel terrible that the entire event was just horrible...even the house dj and photographer were terrible...would never recommended this place to anyone! read more

Hold onto your drinks - they will disappear the moment you put them down......even if you purchased them. I attended an event here with beer and wine included and liquor as a cash bar. After purchasing a cocktail, I left it at my table to use the restroom, when I returned..... poof.... it was gone. I complained to the bartender and they did nothing about it. Sweet 16. Place is outdated. No money put back into the facility. Staff, all children. Inexperienced kids, servicing, carving, etc. The food was horrible. Burnt potatoes, burnt steak. Steak was carved by a 16 year old. Come on chef, you should have been out there carving in front of the guests, like a professional! Would not recommend!!! White trash. The 1 star is for the bartenders, who were adults and fantastic. read more

There's not enough nice things I can say about Sunset Harbour. They made our wedding day beautiful from the moment we walked through the door to start the planning process. Andy and Christina were lovely and attentive to all of our needs. It wasn't easy to plan a wedding from 200 miles away, but they provided us with everything we needed. The night was simply magical. The staff at SH was kind and attentive, and our guests took notice of the impeccable service. Jim, our maitre' de, was more kind than we could have ever imagined. It was his duty to make sure that we were happy at all times...and we were! After the wedding, everyone RAVED about the food. The surroundings were clean, beautiful, and a perfect place to start our lives together. Our guests even got to enjoy the Tiki Bar the night before at our rehearsal! We really can't thank everyone at Sunset Harbour enough for such a wonderful wedding. It was everything our hearts imagined! read more

our wedding was really nice, the food was good and we all had a wonderful time. the ony problem was they charged us for 5 people that we did not have. our family table was supposed to be set for 12 but they made the mistake of setting it for 10 so when my sister explained the lack of 2 seats, she requested the table be split into 2 with 7 on one table and 5 on the other, the tables were just too small to hold 12 comfortably. so, with this they think we have 5 extra guests. i was hounded for about 1/2 hour to sign for the extra guests. this was done while our reception was going on and after being chased with the bill i finally signed just to get them off my back!! i did not know of the table situation until after the event. i called when i found out where the problem was and i was greeted with rudness and told they count people coming into the facility. there is also more than one way in and out. i have made many complaints to several people at the hall including the owner who promised to settle the situation and call back within 48 hours but he never did. BAD PRACTICE!! we also tipped everyone generously as well as tips being included in the bill. so it seems dishonesty makes them some extra $$$. i am now working with the atty. general to settle the claim.
