And noticed people smoking. So it's allowed apparently there. And not being a smoker. It's disgusting to smell. Got a draft beer that was nice and cold. Ordered the buttered chicken dish with naan. Chicken was nice and tender. Full of flavor. Overall decent dish. And got carrot cake for desert. The cake was I assumed microwaved. And it had warm spots and cold. Not the best or the worst. First time visiting this eatery. Liked the idea of deck seating, if it was a little warmer, we would have used it. Inside is down homey, nothing special, but it is well lit and comfortable. Service was outstanding, our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. Menu is well laid out and easy to read. Our server answered all of our questions. Iced tea was very good. Food arrived in short order, pipping hot. My wife's Maui-Maui was excellent, my fisherman's platter was a little disappointing. A massive piece of fish was excellent, fries were not bad. Not sure what the little brown things were, i think they were scallops. The shrimp was ok. Overall we had a nice night out, in a quiet setting with an attentive server, the price was very reasonable. We were a party of 10. I had made a reservation but when we arrived there was another large party seated in the area we had planned to use. The servers immediately showed me another area and in less time than it took the rest of the party to come inside they had the area set up for us. Our waitress was efficient at getting drinks and taking our orders. Shared appetizers( gator bites and breaded mushrooms)were delivered quickly and our dinners came in shortly after. Most of us ordered seafood.. Grouper Reuben , red snapper, seafood pasta all were well cooked and seasoned. The butter chicken pleased and the BLT sandwich amazed us with the amount of bacon. Our only disappointment was they were out of curry lamb which had been one of the resins to go there. Sooooo I haven't been here in over 5 years and a Yelp birdie told me there's new management and a new menu so off I went. Atmosphere- Physically, nothing has changed so, if you wish, you can peruse my first review for that stuff. Just remember there is an awesome deck on Lake Jackson with plenty of pics from my fellow Yelpers. So, what has changed? Customer Service- I was touched by both the manager and my bartender/server and both were friendly, genuine, and efficient. No complaints at all but also nothing that made me go OMG so a solid 4 stars. Food- Yup, it's an American menu alright with a twist here and there. Tons of appetizers along with plenty of seafood, steaks, burgers, tacos, and assorted sandwiches. One of the twists was an appetizer that sounded awesome! Kicken Balls ($5.50)- Spicy Potato Balls Stuffed with Beef & Pork Served with our Buffalo Dipping Sauce. I was by myself, and I knew I would never finish these and an entrée, so I passed. However, a neighboring table ordered them, and they looked incredible, and it was clear everybody loved them. I love Cajun spices, so I smiled when I spotted this- Mardi Gras ($17)- Cajun Chicken Served Over Linguini with Sautéed Mushrooms, Tomatoes & Scallions Finished in a Creamy Cajun Cheese Sauce. So of course, I ordered it. I waited a while for it but not long enough to complain. This was a very very good dish! Although hard to tell in my pic there was plenty of blackened chicken. The Cajun Cheese Sauce was the star of the show! It had a nice kick and was just the right consistency. I do have a couple of quibbles. $17 is a bit too high for what it is, the atmosphere it's served in, and a Highlands County location. I understand it was once $15 which would be about right. The linguine was overcooked (not al dente) which I totally expected in a casual place like this, but it is what it is! Would I order it again? You bet! I'm gonna make some plans to come down here with two or three friends so we can split some appetizers, have an adult libation or two or three and enjoy the deck at sunset! read more

Went here yesterday with another couple for dinner. Service very very slow and the food was not good. Fisherman's platter......heavily breaded small shrimp, scallops tasted like fish, fried crab balls were burnt. The only good thing is the lakeview. We will not eat here again. read more

Went to Sunset Grille for the lakeside ambiance on a Saturday evening. Weather was cool for locals, thus inside was full. But there wasn't much seating indoors, outside plenty of seating, but 80% empty. We were told as we were handed menus and silverware at the hostess station, to sit anywhere we want. We were also told that we may have to wait 35 minutes for our food. OK, we said, it's the ambiance we were there to enjoy.... Three really badly prepared drinks later, my wife states, we've been here for an hour! We had ordered our food quite quickly after seating. It was dark on the deck seating, no table lights for ambiance or to even see our food to eat. When food did arrive, wife's chicken wings were cold as if it had been waiting for my very large portion of Mahi-mahi to be cooked. The Mahi was warm, the fries were cool and undercooked. We had to ask for condiments, salt & pepper. Overall impression? If you want to go sit and drink beer or wine, it's a good spot. You can sober up between cocktail waitress visits. I heard it's a new owner and something tells me they'll never last!!! Seems to be a lot of haters who only reviewed walking in and out...this is a true Florida slow style place. The staff is friendly, answered our many questions and even joked with us. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. I also think we probably had the best waitress in the place. We both ordered the grouper dinner special with baked potato and side salad. Fish was good, I also asked for a side of the caper lemon aoli which was delicious and made the fish even better. We were bummed that fish tacos are only available for lunch, I couldn't have the shell anyway, they looked to be flour but I was looking forward to trying the grouper tacos with no shell! Well, apparently this place was sold 9 months ago and we did not know this. I guess the reviews were a little older than I realized. The seafood was decent but could have been Captain "D" for all I know. We chose yellow rice with our meal. I have had lots of yellow rice in my life and this was definitely mislabeled. When we arrived here yesterday, we had relatively low expectations based on the reviews. We had a group of 7 and decided to sit outside on the back deck. The appetizers included loaded potato skins and crab stuffed jalapeno poppers. The poppers were good while the potato skins were just ok. After that, nearly everything was very good. I got to try a few things or get feedback on others. I can report that the fish and chips was really good as was the reuben with corned beef and the grilled chicken caesar salad. The BLT looked good as well as the burger. No one seemed unhappy when we left. Since, we had mentioned some of the negative reviews when we arrived, it seemed that everyone was surprised by them after we had all finished. The beer options are a little disappointing (no IPAs or Porters / Stouts). The Bloody Marys were very good. All I can say is that we had a Great experience and would definitely come back again. They have a full bar with drink specials. The Hawaiian seafood dish was great! Mahi mahi with coconut shrimp in a sambuca mango sauce with rice was one of the best dishes I've had! Disappointing. The menu on the website is not the same as what we got tonight. We tried to sit on the patio but as soon as my wife sat down a bird shit on her, so we went inside. The gator was tail extra chewy (not the worst I've ever had but not that great). Wife got the shrimp BLT it fell apart before she could get a single bite. It was soggy. I got the chicken sandwich, it wasn't terrible but it was served on toast, not quite what I was expecting. Halfway through our dinner we noticed a guest dumping fries off the deck to feed the birds...and another guest started smoking on the patio next to people eating, glad we went inside. My wife and I were staying in Sebring for 9 days and we were happy to find the sunset grille here on yelp. Beautiful location on the water with outdoor seating and an extensive seafood menu. We enjoyed drinks and our meal, even if the service was a little slow. I'm used to that in Florida. And the view across the lake was great, so we didn't mind the wait. At the end of our trip, we did something we almost never do. We went back a second time. There were things on the menu that I wanted to try. When we walked in we were greeted by a waitress, handed menus, and told she would be right back to take our order. Spoiler Alert. We never saw her again. After about 10 minutes I told a passing waitress that we were abandoned. She said she would find "our " waitress. After another 10 minutes went by she asked if "our" waitress ever came back. When I told her no she said that she would take our order and give it to "our" waitress. She should have just offered to wait on us at that point. But I gave her our order for drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Another 10 minutes went by without any service. By this point there were tables around us that were seated after us, that were already served. I set a timer and gave them another 5 minutes just to be certain that I wasn't being unreasonable and then I did something I have only done once before in my lifetime. I walked out. But there is a silver lining to this story. We left here and found the Blue Lagoon saloon. Had a completely different experience. Look for my review on that wonderful seafood restaurant and how they avoid ignoring their clients. Ok. They're not on a lake, but I'll definitely go back there for the food AND the service. read more
