So we came here based off my friends recommendations as it's the best steak place that's not like a Ruth Chris. So we came here and were sat down immediately. We met our waitress. Very nice, tall blonde. She was very honest. She told us the steaks aren't local. She then told us about the fries that are hand cut everyday aren't crisp. They're more flimsy. She also let us know they make 3 homemade salad dressings. We ordered the fried pickles first. They came out small cut, with ranch dressing and seasoned well. I actually liked them. We then ordered our meal. We picked our steak of the rib eye 18 oz. We ordered it medium rare. Steak also came with 2 sides or you can get up charged for other items. I got fries and the mashed potatoes. My wife got her 2 sides as she was also charged 6 dollars for 2 sides and a salad. She got the baked potato and cabbage. The steak came out perfect. Good char on it. Medium rare was good. I liked it a lot. Not tough. The fries like she said came out limp. They weren't bad. Mashed potatoes were good. Nothing to write home about. My wife said the bake potato was good. And the cabbage was ok. The waitress was attentive and made sure our drinks were full when needed. Overall, I'd say the food was a 4.4 with the salad being a small plate with normal stuff. The fries were also missing that crunch factor. The mashed potatoes were ok. Visited this place with two friends after an enthusiastic endorsement from a local and was not disappointed. Creamy house-made ranch paired well with our fried gator appetizer. The gator itself tasted rather plain and uninteresting. The burgers are substantial, cooked and seasoned well, and the toppings are fresh. It's a little quirky to offer both crinkle cut and hand cut fries, but I can vouch for the hand cut fries being good. The sweet tea is real here, and I took a cup to go. Service was kind and genuine. The dining area was comfortable enough and full of local flair. I decided to deduct one star due to the lack of unique flavor from the food. We have had lunch at Gator Shack many times over the years, but last night we gave them a try for dinner. What a wonderful experience. It was Friday night so we had an opportunity to select our steaks table side from the just cut steaks on the Steak cart. The steaks are from a local ranch and are absolutely amazing. Winnie had an 8 ounce filet and I had an 18 ounce rib eye. Both steaks were tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Our server was great. Helpful during ordering and frequently checking on our drinks and satisfaction during the meal. The Shack is a typical old Florida restaurant, family's including well behaved children, couples and groups of men after work. They have both indoor as well as covered and screened outdoor seating. Four of us stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We were greeted with smiles and seated immediately. The place was lively and filled with big groups. Our food was served hot and quickly. We dug into both the appetizers before I had a chance to take pics One of our party members stated the gator bites were the best he had ever tasted. The homemade pineapple habanero sauce for the coconut shrimp had just the right amount of kick to it. We enjoyed our meal very much as we have all the previous times we've dined at The Gator Shack. If you are ever up this way. This is a good place to stop. There are not a lot of options this way with restaurants. The service was friendly and the food was good. This is a local spot and a casual place. Everyone knows everyone here. It is a friendly place with a big bar in the middle of the place. The place was easy to find and it had plenty of parking spaces. It also had a beautiful huge tree on the side. I asked the waitress what was good. The restaurant had a daily special. It was hard to choose. She responded with everything. I will say that what I got was good. The cheese curds tasted great and the fish sandwich was good. It was flaky and good. I would get it again. My wife and I took our son, daughter-in-love and 4 grandchildren there for lunch. My grandchildren begged to go. We had been there in April and they wanted to return. Everyone greatly enjoyed their meal. The 4 grandkids had sandwiches (two cheeseburgers and one Philly, and one ham & cheese -- the sandwiches were large), our son had a gator bite po boy, my wife and daughter-in-love had pulled pork and I had fried shrimp. Service is always good at the shack. However, the quality of the food has changed over the last year. It's not the same as last year or even before that. Steaks seem tougher and the shrimp smaller. read more

All I have to say is Wow!!! The perfect place to eat good food in a comfortable laid back atmosphere! The waitress Shannon was AMAZING!! She took such good care of us. My husband had the steak cooked medium and it was spot on. You get to pick your steak before they cook it. He also had a loaded baked potato and onion rings (they were perfection) loved that they were not over battered. He also got cole slaw and that was amazing also. I ordered the Pork Ribeye (one word; delicious) mixed veggies that were so fresh and tasty and a sweet potato which came with what looked like home cinnamon butter. I did also get a salad. For dessert we had Florida orange cheese cake, so good. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We drove 2.5 hours and we are so happy we went. This truly is a Gem!! read more

While in Sebring for the Porsche races, I stopped by The Gator Shack. Sebring is rather void of restaurants, so other than Apex located at the Sebring International Raceway Hotel, this is about it. It caters to visiting tourists with some novelty local Florida and Southern dishes such as gator nuggets, chicken gizzards with homemade gizzard sauce, deep-fried pickles, and frog legs. I must say, I tried the frog legs. They were battered, deep fried to a golden brown and were totally delicious. I've driven by this restaurant more than 100 times while working but never stopped in. I decided after parking in the lot to send an email and could smell the grills working. I had already eaten so only got the Puny Burger with hand cut fries. I have to say fir the price it was a great value and cooked perfectly. The Gator Shack is about 10 miles east of Sebring on US Hwy 98. Each year we look for a place to eat lunch on our way back to South Florida after our yearly golf weekend at Highlands Ridge, and we finally found the spot! It doesn't look like much from the road and the interior is not much better, but the food is great and the service terrific. We got the fried mushroom appetizer and fish sandwiches. The portions were plentiful and the prices very reasonable. This is old rural Florida at its best. Our only complaint is that it was so crowded that we had to wait quite a while for our food. Not to worry, have one their reasonably priced draft beers while you wait. read more

The place is dark/warm with a decent size bar, and plenty of tables which are clean and comfortable enough. Food... Delicious and made exactly how you want. This is a place you might pass by on the road and never stop. And unless I'd seen it on Yelp, we would have done the same. We came for lunch before a long drive after visiting with family in the area. The building outside looks like old rural Florida. Inside, there's a bar/counter and tables. It's fairly basic. The menu is extensive. And yes, there's gator on the menu. It was pretty busy with a local lunch crowd so we felt comfortable. Most folks seemed to be eating burgers and sandwiches. And the burgers did look very good. My husband decided to try a couple appetizers -- fried mushrooms and fried gizzards (as not often seen on menus). The mushrooms were fantastic. They were perfect with their dipping sauce. The gizzards were a bit tough, so just okay. I should have gotten a burger. Instead, I got a lightly blackened mahi sandwich with fries. The fish was okay. The hand cut fries were wonderful. Depending on what you order, you'll be very happy with a quick meal here. Prices are reasonable; service is southern and welcoming. read more

Along a long and lonely stretch of highway 98, at the western edge of Lorida, Florida an oasis appeared. Lunch time and we were hungry. I ordered the Chicken Gizzard appetizer and a side of mushrooms. The gizzards were good and the fried mushrooms were very good and quite delicious! Went with friends during this past week. No crowds as most snow birds have returned to their roosts. Meal was excellent as was our service. Tea was well brewed and full of flavor. Had a patty melt was absolutely superb. My friends had the hamburger steak smothered in onions. Huge!!!! His lovely wife had the grilled shrimp. All were very good. During the week it is not overly crowded and you can have a conversation with your party. Weekend are a bit more busy, but nothing like snow bird time!! read more

We went with a couple of friends on Friday. Fresh steak night.....the server brings a cart with different types of steaks and you can pick your own size and type. The appetizers were wonderful, fish dip, bang bang shrimp and fried mushrooms. The loaded baked potato was the only disappointment. Our server was wonderful and very pleasant. They do not accept reservations so go early or late. The steaks start at 5:00. We arrived at 4:30 had cocktails and ordered appetizers. By 5:00 the cart with steaks arrived at our table.
