Stopped in on a road trip , waitress was snarky during my food order and then during my grandfathers order. It was really unappreciated and killed the entire experience. In sleepy little Fort Meade, you would expect to see a bunch of soldiers in camouflage and buzz cuts marching around but you would be wrong! There is no military base by that name and that's a story for Wikipedia. In my humble opinion, there are only three places worth a damn to eat in this little town and these fine folks are one. Atmosphere- It's an ancient somewhat run-down drive-in with a huge following of locals and folks just passing through that find it on Yelp. It's one room and the only atmosphere is happy folks chowing down on huge plates of food. Customer Service- My waitress was curt and efficient and checked on me twice, so I had no problems. Food- Massive casual menu with all the burgers and sandwiches and fried food you can imagine. There is even a small salad bar that looked decent. The specialty are the Minor Burgers named after the locally famous high school football team. These one-half pound behemoths come separately or as platters with every burger option you can think of. I went with the Bacon Cheese version platter and paid a little extra to substitute Tots which I would highly recommend. I added a refillable soft drink which came in a cup so large it could be a swimming pool. It was out quickly and so so much better that the fast food chains. The burger was hot off the grill and juicy and the Tots were perfectly cooked and piping hot. The Slaw was spot on and just a little bit sweet. This is not gourmet food in any way but just fine small-town home cookin. I was completely stuffed, and my tab was $11.18. I looked around the dining room as I walked out and was struck once again with how happy folks looked eating a huge assortment of casual food. That's it. We will not be going to Miner's den /John's Drive-In in fort Meade, Florida; anymore. The waitress never asked if we liked the food; and it's a good thing because we didn't. The spaghetti had a strange looking pale sauce on it and not hardly any meat. It also was not cooked enough. It was almost flavorless. I had a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It also was awful. The steak was overdone and gristley... Also tasted as if it had been burned and tried to be saved. I have no idea what kind of cheese it was; it looked a lot like Velveeta. RIP Miner's Den... Food great. The lack of respect for the disabled is the reason for two stars. One particular waitress with a sassy New Yorker attitude was fine till she wasn't. After a handicapped elderly man who was eating by himself left, she openly shamed him for making a mess and got another customer on board to talk crap. I couldn't believe what was happening. I was a guest of a local, so I chose to not make address it since the customer want there, but had it happened ahead of him there would have been a mess there last night. This place is a typical Fort Meade restaurant! OK food when it comes out hot and just the absolute worst wait staff you've ever seen! I got a cheeseburger and fries and an iced tea for lunch today and the ice tea was warmer than my fries. Waitress comes over 20 minutes later after I've already eaten a hamburger and asked me how my meal was and I tell her the fries are cold and old she takes her hand presses them down on my french fries looks at me and walks away and then charges me $3.50 for a half a dozen cold fries! 17$ For cold food and shitty service! Overall every time I go here they have excellent food. My personal favorite are the crab cakes! Today was the first time I strongly disliked the gravy with the mash potatoes. I am not sure why it didn't taste like it usually does. With the exception of the gravy the rest of my order was on point. The staff is always extremely friendly and quick with orders. We've passed by this place a handful of times on the long and pleasant drive down US-17 between Orlando and Ft. Myers, but today was the first time our hunger aligned with our proximity to the place and our sense of (admittedly mild) adventure. In short, it was alright. We bought and ate the food from our car, which is cool and increasingly rare. There's no commonly accepted use of the term by which I'd call the service enthusiastic; in fact, the employees seemed listless and dead inside - a Stephen King "no light behind their eyes, something is awry in this town" kind of vibe. But they weren't rude, either. We ordered light: a cheeseburger, tater tots, sweet potato fries, and a couple sodas. The tots were great, I have to say - crispy on the outside and soft inside - and my wife loved the wedge-shaped sweet potato fries. After reading other reviews I'd meant to get the Miner Burger but blew it and got a large cheeseburger instead (I only afterward noticed they're different). The burger was of the very-thin-but-large-diameter variety where the toppings dwarf the meat - you know the kind - but the taste was fine and the toppings fresh. Overall, not notable in any way, bad or good. If we come back, I'd try something more interesting than a burger. It all came to $12.50 or so, which, as someone else noted, is probably less than we would've spent at McD's. Hard to regret that. read more

Classic Little Florida Diner. Great service. Good Food. Nice classic salad bar (think Sonny's Jr) I had some good fried oysters and pretty good fried okra. The chicken tenders were great, hand breaded chicken breast instead of the frozen stuff. Don't expect much in the way of decor but you can actually eat in the car, classic drive in style. All in all, if you are driving to Sarasota from Otown down highway 17, I would suggest making this a pit stop. read more

Friendly staff, convenient curb side ordering, good prices, and fast service. I went with the fish sandwich, fries, and coleslaw, and I was impressed! First time I came for lunch and ordered a Cuban. There were no menus so I had to ask for one. When I did the waitress was clearly displeased that I needed one. Way too many options for sandwiches so I went with a classic. Their Cuban sandwich didn't even have the traditional Cuban sandwich ingredients, the bread was stale, and it was very bland. We stopped in here for lunch on a road trip. You can drive in and get a full dinner. Pretty cool. I had the miner burger, which I guess was named after some local mascot. And a cup of chicken n rice soup. Both were great especially the soup. The wife had a gyro which was great as well. I'll be eating here whenever im in the area. Our whole bill with a gyro, burger, fries, coleslaw, and a soup was 14 dollars. It would have cost me more to eat at the garbage McDonald's across the street. read more

Gross. Place feels very sticky. Food is mediocre at best. I had the pressed Cuban which was just some meat and cheese slapped on some bread and grilled with yellow mustard. Yum.
