Egg city is an old retro dinner on Highway 27. It is in a heavily trafficked area. Took about 10 minutes to go 2 miles. We arrived around noon and the place I think closes around 2. We were seated in the back and neglected for a little bit. The service was snail slow. Our server was okay, she hardly checked on us, but there were other servers that came around to refill coffee. Still, the food came out in like 20 minutes and it was hot and good. Portions are decent for the price. I think the comped our drinks for the slow service. 2 breakfast for under $30 is great. The food was really good and that is most important. Loved the catfish and the thick slice of rye that I ordered with it. read more

Are you looking for a diner with 50 style decor, a large menu, and a small town atmosphere? If so you're in luck with Egg City diner. We were surprised at the size of this diner, because from the outside it looked a lot smaller. When we entered we found a huge diner that spanned in both directions. The diner also has a space for events too, with the whole diner being available after close. As we were only a party of two we were quickly shown to a table although when we arrived there was no wait for any party size regardless. It is important to note, as a lot of places have started to do, your whole party has to be there to be seated which is clearly displayed at the front. There's a larger menu available at Egg City diner which made it hard to pick what we wanted, however, that is never a bad thing! I landed it on the ham steak and two eggs, with this option you get a choice of your type of egg, your bread choice, and home fries or grits. I chose the ham steak because this is something I don't often have but I've always enjoyed. Our food came out promptly and all tasted fresh and the biscuit was certainly a highlight. Now I, as a man of the people, enjoy potatoes in all their forms, but often end up being confused on what one place calls home fries and what another one calls a home fries. Am I going to get cubed up potatoes, seasoned and fried, or am I going to get small pieces of potato almost shredded, or something entirely different. I enjoy rolling the dice and finding out, and I have to say these were worth the gamble. Our server Patrick with funny and was prompt to keep up with his tables, and was able to juggle a few different groups who were sat in quick succession. I had the corned beef hash and eggs with home fries and a muffin and could barely finish it. My son had one pancake and it was as big as the plate. He said it was delicious. Our server was great I was so appreciative that he complemented my son for his communication while ordering because with was a confidence boost for him which is priceless . Absolutely Amazing start to Leilani's 4th birthday . The theme was immaculate taking us back in time, Leilani instantly connected some of the art from Cars and the famous Route 66. We sat at the counter today, which is open seating btw. Steven was as fun as usual. I wasn't in the mood for breakfast or lunch particularly today. I compromised and ordered an egg sandwich and French fries. Steven always made sure to top our drinks off. It hit the spot for sure. Steven made all kinds of desserts that were on display. We moved away from this area but have wanted to come back to Egg City and here we are. Saturday breakfast is bustling. No surprise and I'm happy to see it. Got a couple of sweet teas. I may get half sweet and half unsweet next time. I like the City Mush Bowl. Other places just call it a Grit Bowl. Grits, scrambled eggs, gravy, bacon and cheese. Yummy and filling. I could have gone without the "stuffing" as it was just a can of apple pie filling shoved inside the French toast. Eggs were cooked just as I asked. My friend got a Belgian waffle, which she enjoyed. They filled our coffees as needed, and service was good. I don't much care for the decor of the diner as I'm a millennial, so this isn't a type of nostalgia that moves me. Well if you like the Pancake Place in Green Bay, WI - then this is your place. They have pancakes, waffles and French toast. All a reasonable price. The food was good but nothing amazing. A lot of experienced (older) customers in the place so you know there is good value. We got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are very good. The gravy is a white pepper gravy.
