amazing trio dip
Bob M.

we came today to watch some live music on their patio on a nice summer day. Had a few drinks, did not even know they offer happy hour on a Sunday but were pleasantly surprised with the cost. ordered the Trio Dip which was Buffalo chicken, Queso and spinach artichoke. All three of the dips were creamy and delicious! Maybe actually the best dips I have ever had (only drawback was not enough chips) we still had cheese dips but ran out of the tortilla chips, I wanted to lick the spoon it was so good. Will definitely be back to try more menu items and more live music. A great treat on a Sunday afternoon.

Eggs Benedicto with American Fries

Great place to listen to live music and watch the sun go down over the lake. We stopped in for a bloody mary and breakfast. The food was good. We had kitchen sink hash and eggs benedicto with queso and american breakfast potatoes. Their bloody mary is pretty good, not too bland or too spicy. The olives and pickle were good quality and the bloody mary mix was great. Comes with a beer chaser too. Only recommendation for improvement would be faster service. It was getting pretty busy and the wait staff were only the bartender and one waitress. We would go back again sometime.

My Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps were excellent! Spicy sauce included for dipping! Wonderful for my entree! My friend had the Chicken Tenders that were really overbreaded and oily. The Meatloaf was wonderful. Not so much for the Chicken Pot Pie. So 2 good, 2 not so great. Excellent service from our waitress. Great view of the lake from our table.

Our waitress was really cool. Onion rings were the table favorite. Cheese burger cooked to perfection. Check out the cheese pull on the white chicken lasagna.

Smothered Prime Sandwich w/Cheesy Hashbrowns

Pretty good here for lunch today with a large group (18+). My Smothered Prime Sandwich was exactly that: nice hand sliced prime rib smothered in grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese. Be sure to check out the blackboard for daily specials and soups de jour! Bar Bingo & Meat Raffle started at 1pm so it did get a little loud in the dining area.

We ate here with a large group. Our waitress was very good and handled us all very efficiently. We were also able to play a few games of bingo. I was happy that they have Schells Oktoberfest on tap. I ordered the prime rib sandwich which was very dry, overcooked, and no au jus provided. The seasoned fries were pretty good but salty.

We met a group from the Y here for lunch. They were able to take a group of about 20. It was quite busy, we didn't know they were having a meat raffle and bingo today. We did play a few games of bingo which was fun. The service was very good. Thank you. The food was typical food. I got the bacon cheeseburger and my wife got the cob salad. Everything was hot when it came out. It all tasted pretty good.

Went here today for lunch. We were meeting a group there for lunch. It is quite loud here for lunch which is kind of unusual. They were having a meat raffle and then bingo. We did play a few games which was fun. The food was pretty good. I tried their Cobb salad and my husband had the bacon cheese burger. The service was very good. We had a group of 20 and everything came out closely together.

Sissy and I wanted to try a new place tonight. We were here once before... when it was Laddie Lake Pub. New owners purchased it and remodeled last summer. Glad to see they kept the booths near the windows. Must be pretty to look at the lake or view a sunset. The sidewalk appeal hasn't changed. Looks like a dump but it's a diamond in the rough when you get inside. Love the wood decor with twinkle light accents. Makes it feel warm and inviting. Besides booths, there are high tops and regular tables, seating either 4 or 6. Along with a full bar. Lots of tvs to watch sports. 5 tvs above the bar and no duplicate shows! Service and food was fast. Food was good, okay, satisfactory. We left with full tummies. Waitress was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Chicken Ranch Sandwich. Didn't really taste any ranch. There was a white sauce that was dripping as I held it but didn't have over the top ranch flavoring. The pico was good. Avocado was too firm!! Loved the Parmesan Truffle Flats! Now this were good! Think a skinny steak fries with salty grated cheese. I also liked the ciabatta bread it came on. Soft inside but crunchy outside. Sissy had fish and chips. Fish were huge and round. Came with same Parmesan Truffle Flats, tartar sauce and cole slaw. Cole slaw was spicy. Maybe some hidden peppers in there? Would I come back again? Sure. Just to have the flats again! Probably wouldn't order this sandwich though.

Great view from my table

I enjoyed a lunch and game of bingo at Sunset Grill. The food, presentation and service were all good. Bingo was called pleasantly with adequate volume but not overwhelming. It did slow down good service to an acceptable degree. I enjoyed the lake view through the windows and appreciated the adequate space between tables

Their hours are quite limited, only open 8-3 Tuesday-Sunday so no stopping there for dinner unfortunately but breakfast and lunch dishes are their specialty anyway. A very unassuming diner in a building that looks almost like a suburban house, this place will really surprise you. The service is quite quick and everything is very fast paced inside there. I ordered one of my favorite breakfast dishes - corned beef hash which came with a few eggs I ordered sunny side up. The corned beef hash was delicious and the eggs were perfectly runny while the whites were crisp. This corned beef hash and the one at Ideal Diner are my two favorite corned beef hashes in the metro. Highly recommend checking this out.

Best to go with a few friends that are willing to mix and match so you can try everything without feeling like you are wasting anything. You WILL leave full.

They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside without being too doughy. So good! For my meal, I ordered the croque madame and substituted the salad for fries for an extra $2. I was SO impressed. The bread was perfectly toasted, I loved the cheese-to-ham ratio, and the egg on top brought everything together. They also gave me a very generous portion of fries--I couldn't even finish them--so the $2 substitution was totally worth it. I also ordered the cardamiel latte, which basically tasted like fall in a cup. Cozy, delicious, and definitely something I'd order again. The space itself is much bigger than I expected, with plenty of booths, long tables for larger groups, outdoor seating, and what appeared to be a bar area. We came around 12:30 on a Sunday, and while there was a steady flow of people, it never felt overly crowded. One thing to know is that you place your order at the register and then they bring the food to your table. The counter also has coffee and baked goods, so there are plenty of options if you're stopping in for something quick rather than a full meal. I could see Churchill St. working for so many occasions--Sunday brunch, lunch or dinner, a birthday celebration, or a fun brunch with girlfriends. They even have a cute little shop with kitchen items, stationery, and other goodies that was fun to browse. There was also plenty of parking in the surrounding area, which made the whole experience easy. Between the food, atmosphere, and versatility of the space, I would absolutely come back!

There's literally no place like it in the Shoreview area. That said, it's a little pricey and the food can be hit or miss. My wife had the clam chowder. She said it was "fine" which means she's glad she didn't have to cook dinner but wasn't really impressed. I had the MN Wild Rice Casserole . It's a vegan dish which I appreciated as I have heart issues and try to avoid dishes with a lot of meat or fried ingredients. I asked the servers what they thought about it. They were less than enthusiastic, but I thought I'd try it anyway. I should have followed their lead. The dish was salty and otherwise not very flavorful. Heart healthy maybe, but I definitely wouldn't order it again. I only ate about a third of my dish. The server asked what I thought. I said it was "ok". I tried to convey my disappointment without really complaining. She kind of shrugged it off and walked away. No offer of any sort of replacement or attempt to rectify the situation. Maybe I should have been more direct. Churchill St is also a semi self serve type of place, which is fine. I kind of like that. What I don't like is an assumed tip that starts at 18%. Other than bringing out our food, there is no service. We got our own water. Went up to the counter and ordered our own drinks. Eventually a girl in a camo hoodie cleared our plates but that's it. It seems like they want to position themselves as an upscale casual place, but they fall short in a few key areas (food and service) In fairness, we have had better meals here in the past . My wife's $14 Chardonnay was really good and a generous pour. Churchill has potential and I am sure we'll be here again, but probably not for a while. Too bad, so sad. I guess.
