First time here. Limited seating. Very quaint and divey. (Not sure if that's how to spell that) Great server!! Very friendly and helpful. I had the Everything omelette with a pancake. Excellent omelette and the pancake was wonderful!! They cook the pancakes with a little crisp around the edges. My wife had the Ranch breakfast with bacon. Plenty of bacon and her food was great. Our server kept our coffee cups filled. She also knew most of the customers by name. Nice neighborhood place. Didn't get any photos of the food but there are plenty taken previously. I tried this place for the first time last week and it won't be the last. It's a totally cozy diner with standard breakfast food done well. Our hashbrowns were perfectly crispy and the Pancakes were so yummy. The bacon was thick cut and so well seasoned! The coffee was fine, but the server was incredibly attentive and refilled my cup without me having to ask. The prices are fair and the food is comforting. read more

My son and I tried this restaurant because of advertising. Major disappointment, way over hyped. I had eggs Benedict, the (knorr) hollandaise sauce was disgusting. No real butter was used. The eggs were fine but I did encounter egg shells, it happens. The English muffin and hash browns had an off flavor. I had to leave the hash browns. My son had pancakes and a waffle. His pancakes were subpar, the flavor. The waffle was a crime. It was the size of a hamburger bun and dry as a bone. The server was good. The restaurant was a dive but I am fine with that. I really like that they open early. My friend and I love early breakfast places. Never really get to this area much, but love trying new places. It's a diner with a lot of clutter, but I guess that's why it might be charming? We both ordered the ranch breakfast- our meats were different and our potato choice was different. I ordered the polish sausage which was really good and the american fries which were okay. Their sourdough toast which we both ordered was harder than a rock and the butter(?) that came atop the toast would not melt- it was like lard on a shingle. Service was good. You pay up front with your handwritten check. Nice place to try at least once. read more

One issue we had was our food came out way later than others who arrived and ordered after us. We eventually asked our waitress who simply said they had been busy. Drove 40 minutes from Eagan to meet a friend who said this place was great. It's just a plain old-fashioned cafe on a side street in Columbia Heights. Only two working men were dining at the time. I was not expecting much. But the eggs were cooked perfectly. What surprised me was the hashbrowns and the huge polish sausage. They were both tasty and cooked perfectly, and neither of them were the least bit greasy or oily. Hard to do. Lastly, I tried the pancakes. They did not look like pancakes. I picked one up with my fingers, like a cookie. There was no need for butter or syrup. I don't know what the ingredients were in these pancakes but they were fabulous. Upon arriving, there was only an available stool at the bar. I sat there and waited 8 minutes before anyone came to the end of the breakfast bar to greet me. That's when I should have left. Nope. I stayed. A kind gentleman, Carl sat next to me with interesting conversations. The owner came out to greet Carl, offered him coffee, and did not bother to speak to me. Bastard. My pork chop breakfast was not even fair. Dried pork chop, slightly overcooked hash-browns, my eggs were good. This place is just incredible. Any time you want a cozy, homemade, guaranteed delicious breakfast, come here. The menu is extensive, they have every single breakfast craving out there, and everything is amazing! The pancakes are to die for, they are sweet, fluffy, the edges are a little crispy, just amazing. I always get an omelet and it is just so good ( I do egg whites sometimes too) and they are extremely accommodating! There are healthy options too which I really appreciate. The decor in there is also all over the place but I do love it for what it is. The service is always top notch, never have to wait too long! This place was a fantastic local diner. The food was delicious; HUGE variety on the menu for both breakfast and lunch. The pancakes had a tasty crunch to them unlike other breakfast places! The hash browns are the perfect texture of crispy and soft. THE SYRUP WAS WARM *applause*!! For 9:30 AM on a Friday, the place was fairly bustling. There are 4 person table tops, approximately 7 booths, and a diner bar either several stools. There was only one server; she was incredibly hospitable! The ambiance was fun and different... a family owned, biker influenced joint! The wall decor was humorous. Hidden Gem! My husband and I were running and errand in the area and thank goodness for yelp or I would never have happened upon this delicious diner. Very old school, tchotchke-filled diner style inside with a few spots at a counter, booths and a few tables. The server greeted us as soon as we walked in and coffee was poured within 60 seconds. I enjoyed my suburban omelette, a nice lighter egg wrapping which I enjoy and the side of bacon was so delectable. Thick cut and crispy! You have an option for toast or pancake as a side and I was so glad I went with the pancake. They were delicious on their own without syrup or butter and the edges had almost a candied-ness to them. My husbands corned beef hash was probably my favorite thing. The corned beef was so well seasoned, a good pepper spice and so flavorful. Wow! This place is down the street from me and I wanted to try it for so long, and I was not disappointed at all! You can seat yourself, so that comes with upsides and downsides depending on how busy it is. Service was really quick even though there appeared to be one waiter on staff during the weekday when we came in. Our staffer was immediately attentive to us and we wanted for nothing. I don't know how she manages to do it alone, but she was super efficient. The food was so good!!! It was hot and made to order, and it came out the kitchen fast. I loved that everything tasted so fresh and homemade. They serve you warm syrup and it was the highlight of my Pancakes and French toast. I truly can't wait to come back. I will only come back during a weekday. This is not a brunch spot; this is an old school diner spot where you get your food quick and fill up and go. The place is small and quaint, so don't linger. First visit today. Not really close to us, as we live in South Minneapolis area, Longfellow. Was looking a new place for brunch, that we hadn't been to before. Good reviews on Yelp made it worth the drive North. It an old diner with a pretty complete menu. I typically go with a pretty basic breakfast when I try a new place, Doll always sticks to a veggie omelet. I went with the Polish Ranch. scrambled eggs, polish sausage, hash browns, and toast. All hot and very tasty, Doll loved the omelet. Great attention from our waitress, very attentive. Spoke to the owner before we left, really solid meal that we will come back for. Save yourself the trouble and do not go here. My husband and I wanted a simple local breakfast, but the experience was far from that. We went in and there were several open tables. We sat down, ordered, and waited, waited, and waited some more. I got my food after what felt like 40 minutes. My husband said, "I'm waiting 10 more minutes and we're leaving." I got my food a minute later, but his food never showed up. The server never said anything, and I sat there with my food for a few minutes, waiting to see if my husband's food would arrive because I didn't want to eat in front of him without him having his food. After waiting, the server came back and said his food would be right up. I started eating so my food wouldn't get cold. I eat pretty slowly, but in a short time, I finished my food because I ordered a small meal. My husband's food still never showed up. We threw money on the table and left. Watching the rest of the cafe, there were many tables that had been there longer and still hadn't received any food. In fact, the whole time we were there, we only saw one order come out of the kitchen. After the experience we had, I would not recommend or return to this cafe read more

Best pancakes in the area hands down kinda hard to get a seat it is a very small place but worth the wait.

My wife got the omelette, it was very good and definitely worth going back for. I was craving German pancakes, so I did a Yelp search and this place showed up. I called to verify because a couple others places showed up and did not even know what German Pancakes were. But Romans said they did have them, when I got there they had a potato and onion pancake on the. Menu but it was really not seasoned or taste like a German pancake at all. It was a regular buttermilk type pancake with some potatoes and onions it came with the smallest side of applesauce I'd ever seen and no sour cream. I ordered a side of sour cream it was probably 1/2 a teaspoon, I asked for more and got another 1/2 teaspoon at that point I gave up on the potato pancakes and shared the omelette. ( which I should have done to begin with and could have saved $4-5 on applesauce and sour cream) I'll go back the omelette was great and everyone else's food looked good. read more

Oh dang. This is a classic Minnesota diner! It's what my midwestern heart currently living far away was craving! The place was full of locals when we visited in February. The pancakes were amazing and I also loved the apple sauce omelette! So unusual bit surprisingly good (next time I think I'd add cheese though?)! My all-time favorite Everything Omelette for the very first time contained burned onions the way overdone the rest of the ingredients were not definable except for the big mushroom pieces. Eggs were crispy and hard to cut wit a knife. A huge disappointment. The side of hash browns were very pale and greasy but the totally burned pancake added color. A phonecall expressing my disappointment was confirmed by the very friendly order taker by yes I saw the order and the grill must have been too high and yes the owner was ooking and they were not busy. As I write this I keep burping up the little of the "meal". Was it worth the $22.00? Absolutely not. So much for helping out local businesses. read more

The former Johnson Bacon & Egg Company is now Roman's Cafe. Still a great place to stop for my eggs and baccy. It had been awhile, so I was a bit surprised about the name change. As the new owner was (and is) one of the cooks its really hasn't changed that much. Its a humble, locals kind of place. Although I haven't lived in this area for nearly 20 years, I still felt welcome. Eggs toast and American fries (with sausage links please.). All very tasty Americana. The sausages stood out with a nice spicy flavor. It definitely needs to be in my breakfast rotation. As other have noted - bring cash. read more

Had breakfast at Roman's last Saturday morning. Got there just before they opened, waiting with the regulars for the door to open. Taylor opened the door and let us in, saying hi by name to the regulars. I had the big breakfast, sausage, two eggs over easy, hash-browns and one pancake. It was all delicious as was the coffee. I was in the Fridley area and this came up on the radar. When I walked in it reminded me of our recent trip out west. I didn't feel like I was in the TC at all, but could have been in ND, WY, MT. Like deja vu. Sure enough Roman was at the grille. I got a Mexican omelette loaded with sour cream, cheese and salsa. Folded very nicely and a good size. I got white toast. It seems to take an owner to know how to butter toast. I was curious about the hash browns and got a half order. All was delicious. Wow, delicious and as good as breakfast gets! The pancakes here are thin, golden crisply around the edges and are sooo amazing and served with a warm syrup.
