Definitely in the diner genre and casual, the service was friendly and fast and the portions were huge! Pretty much everyone was walking out with to go boxes. The decor is farmhouse and very quaint. A good hearty meal!

    Sloppy joe special!

I arrived to the Rusty Cow around lunchtime and was greeted and seated immediately. I was impressed with the breakfast and lunch options available. However, my server recommended the special of the day, the sloppy joe. (To be honest, I was a bit surprised there wasn't a fish special, given that its a Friday during Lent. However, since I'm not Catholic, its not a big deal to me.) Back to the sloppy joe- it was very good! Not quite as good as my moms sloppy joes, but still pretty darn good! The fries were also good. Very hot, crispy and fresh. Overall, I would recommend the Rusty Cow and will definitely return!

I stopped for lunch and the place was packed. The inside is very quaint and charming. My server came right over and took my order. After a very short wait she brought my lunch, and everything looked good. I ordered the Hot Beef, and it was tender and juicy and very tasty. This was a good meal for the money. I will be back.

We celebrated Veterans Day at Rusty Cow today. My Dad is a Korean War veteran and Rusty Cow offered a special for all Vets a free meal of Chipped Beef AKA as SOS. We'll my Dad surely enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the kind words to my Dad. I know he appreciates it. We also had eggs and ham, eggs and bacon, chicken strips and a Reuben. Everything good as usual. Thank you again for honoring the vets

We went to The Rusty Cow for a late breakfast recently. We had about a 15 minute wait to get a table, then from the time we ordered till the time we actually got our food was just under an hour. The restaurant was full, but it didn't feel all that busy. More like the people were just camped out for extended periods of time. I saw very few actual tables with food at them. So, we were all clearly waiting for a long time. The owners continually walked around, stopping at tables to talk to patrons, checking on them. As opposed to actually helping out in back of house. I ordered the Turkey Shoot, substitute for Swiss cheese, no onions, with American fries & sour dough toast. My omelet was just okay. It severely needed more cheese in it. The hollandaise sauce was alright, but nothing to get excited about. The American fries were very fresh, but had no seasoning on them. The sour dough toast was actually the best thing on my plate. My partner ordered the country fried steak breakfast, with scrambled eggs, a biscuit, & a side of sausage. He said the eggs were fine, country fried steak was okay, but needed to be crispier. I tried it, the texture was melt in your mouth, but not in a good way. The biscuit tasted freezer burnt, the sausage links were just normal sausage links, the gravy was a little too salty, needed more pepper & sausage. He would describe it as very middle of the road, nothing special. I would say it's pretty disappointing. I wish I could give half stars, because I would ultimately give them a 1.5.

So glad I made a U-turn! Sis and I were on our way to a small but popular local brewery/restaurant when I remembered hearing about a new restaurant in Circle Pines that has great food. We were in the mood for a "non-commercialized" restaurant (no Applebees or Green Mill) and we found a hidden gem. I will be spreading the word for anyone who loves to talk about or eat food. Situated at the end of a basic strip mall (liquor, Chinese, childcare, lawyer), it's not a looker when you pull up. But don't let that fool you. Once you're inside the front door, it's personality shines. Decorated with country chic vibes and cow selfies, Rusty Cow has a sense of humor. It wasn't very busy when we arrived...we beat the early birds. 3 other tables/ booths were filled. COVID 19 times here so we were all spread out. As we were leaving 2 carloads walked in. Why this place isn't more popular is baffling but I'm glad it wasn't for comfort and safety. Hostess & waitress were friendly and professional. Even met the owner. Noticed him attending to all the tables to make sure everything tasted okay. I love when managers do that. We conversed slightly after I told him it was our 1st visit and thanked him for opening a fabulous establishment. Lobby, hallways and dining room looked clean. Witnessed waitress sweeping hardwood floors (after guests left) while waiting for food to arrive. Yes... let's talk about food. Special of the day was a walleye dinner (fish...eh) or a jalapeno popper juicy Lucy (Yes please!!). Upgraded to waffle fries and seasoned sour cream. Because it was cream cheese filling it wasn't the usual "stab the cheese and watch it ooze". It was hot CC but still held its form. The jalapenos were sliced and stuffed as well. It had heat but not like "cut my tongue off" spice. It was perfect. Also had 2 strips of bacon so I'm not sad about that. Bun was soft on the outside, but toasted crispy on the sliced side...perfection. Waffle fries were hot and crunchy, not soggy. SSC tasted homemade, one of the best I've had. Could tell it had mayo (maybe squirt of lemon too) added because flavor had depth. It wasn't just plain sour cream with Seasoning Salt mixed together. I'd rate meal as Top 5 in best hamburger platters. Sis ordered Rodeo burger. Came with 2 strips of bacon, 2 BATTERED onion rings covered in a smokey BBQ sauce. She also got the waffle fries with SSC. They have a full lunch/ dinner menu in addition to a breakfast menu. We'll definitely be back!

It's surprisingly…read moredifficult to find a truly high-quality bakery around here, and after one too many supermarket "French" baguettes and bake-at-home loaves, this place was exactly what I'd been looking for. The bread is fantastic--crusty, fresh, and authentically French. They also have an incredible selection of beautiful pastries, cakes, and other classic French treats that look like they came straight out of a Parisian pâtisserie. And the coffee is absolutely exquisite. One thing that always makes me smile is that while the pastries look and taste authentically French, they're definitely American-sized! They're enormous. If you're hungry, you're in for a treat. More often than not, I'll enjoy half of one there with a coffee and take the rest home in a box for later. It's a wonderful little café with a relaxed atmosphere and a great place to sit and unwind. If you're in the Apple Valley area and looking for something a little different--something with a genuine European feel--I can't recommend Café de Paris highly enough. I'll definitely keep coming back.

The space is cozy, filled with natural light from the large windows, and has plenty of seating, including comfortable spots near the fireplace. It's usually quiet enough to focus, and since it's right by the Mississippi River, it's the perfect place to grab a coffee and take a walk afterward. I also love that there are other local shops nearby, making it easy to spend a few hours in the neighborhood. On this visit, I came on a Saturday around 9:30 a.m. with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We were surprised by how busy it was--the line was almost out the door--but it moved steadily and was definitely worth the wait. I ordered the Bananas Foster Latte, which was absolutely delicious. It was rich, flavorful, and topped with vanilla cold foam and a caramelized banana slice. It felt like such a fun twist on a classic latte, and the large size was perfect. For food, we shared the Breakfast Flatbread, which was one of my favorite things we ordered. The combination of house-made ricotta, mozzarella, confit tomatoes, onions, eggs, and garlic olive oil was flavorful, hearty, and easily enough for two people to split. We also ordered the breakfast sandwich with maple mustard glazed ham, which came with a side salad and was equally satisfying. One thing to know before you go: Silver Fern is definitely on the pricier side. My latte and the flatbread came to about $28 before tip. I also wish they had a few more hot breakfast options since much of the menu leans toward pastries and baked goods. What really keeps me coming back, though, is the atmosphere and the people. The owner is incredibly kind, and the baristas were especially thoughtful with my friend's nut allergy, taking the time to answer questions and make her feel comfortable ordering. I also really appreciate that they offer 20% off for students and teachers every Tuesday, which is such a thoughtful way to support the local community. If you're looking for a cozy café with excellent coffee, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere--whether you're meeting a friend, working remotely, or grabbing a drink before a walk along the river--Silver Fern is absolutely worth a visit.

Since this was our first time, we had no idea that it was a 'seat yourself' type of place and there were no signs indicating so. We stood at the door being stared at by the patrons and the employees. It took several minutes for someone to tell us we could sit wherever. Finally, our waitress stopped over, took our drink order, but because we weren't ready, she left. She didn't come back for more than 15 minutes. She did apologize, but it was far too long. Prices were reasonable and two specials were offered - our kinda place! My husband took part in one of those specials and ordered the country fried steak and eggs. I ordered the regular steak and eggs. We did substitute an order of toast for the Swedish pancakes (gotta!) It took a really long time for our food to come, which was disappointing. Food did come out hot and my husband was a big fan of the country fried steak. I didn't think the Swedish pancakes were anything I would HAVE to order a second time, but I'm glad we tried them. The hashbrowns were probably the highlight of breakfast.
