We had terrible time for dinner at this restaurant i ordered French onion soup for an appetizer and it tastes like watered down beef broth with like only two pieces on onion and a little bread and cheese on top. My dinner arrived before the nasty French onion wtf you pay for the view not the horrible food the serve and that was way overpriced the steak wasn't cooked to order for my wife and they wanted to give me my dinner alittle later and I sent it back. The waiter did come back to collect. No manager came to our table to apologize for thier horrible food. I do not and will not reccomend this overpriced place to anyone. The only thing this place has going for it is the view. If they are not going to open the doors when the restaurant is open, they should at least let you come in and sit down so you don't sit in a 104 degree heat. We were one out of two people waiting at 5:10 PM to get a seat. Was at Sunset Grill yesterday. Sat down at a lovely table outside with a fantastic sunset view at 6:30. We ordered a drink and an appetizer and ordered our meal. We received our drink and appetizer promptly. It took a very long time for our dinner to be served. Tables of people who arrived after us received their meals way ahead of us. We finally received our dinner at 830. After taking two bites from my chicken dinner which was not very good, we asked for to go boxes and left . We had a wonderful meal at Sunset Grill. We actually picked Sunset because of their hilltop view over Moab but our dinners were wonderful. My husband had the NY Strip which he said was a good cut of meat, cooked as ordered and seasoned well. I had the Lemon Chicken which had great flavor and lots of veggies loaded on top. We were so pleased with our dinner choice. You will love the view, the service and the meal. We came here three times during our visit to Moab-- yes! Our first servers name started with a V. Her name is slipping my mind but it was a beautiful and unique V name. Second server was Eric, third was Kassandra!! All incredibly exquisite and personable. All seemed to love their job and really were just unique and fun individuals in general. The salmon is to die for, that soy sherry sauce is great with fish and red meat! The desserts both chocolate soufflé and crème brûlée were delicious. So was the prime rib especially the shrimp. And that mushroom sauce that came with the steak? Wow I would have ordered that as my own entree. I wanted to be friends and stay in contact with all the servers! Oh yes, can't forget about David. The lovely manager and also our shuttle service these last few days. He is quite the gem. Such a wonderfully staffed establishment! Oh yes, and it was the home of the gentleman who discovered Uranium in Utah! So much history and lore here. Golden ancient footsteps here! Oh one more thing! Marcelo! He was another gem. We got into Moab late and we were staying at the Hyatt Place so ordered takeout about an 1.5 hr before the restaurant closed. The shuttle picked us up & took us to the restaurant. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately, that was the highlight of our visit. Service started off very slow, I eventually had to get up and ask where our server was. To make matters worse, we were seated in a back room where the air conditioning wasn't working, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. We started with the bruschetta, which tasted more like jarred salsa than something freshly prepared. I ordered the Olivia pasta, which was tasty. My husband had the strip steak, which was actually quite good and the best part of our meal. I asked the server if they had espresso martinis and specified that I didn't want Baileys in it. What I received was a chocolate martini made entirely with Baileys :( Unfortunately, I wouldn't return, which is disappointing given how beautiful the location is. "STUFFED SALMON", a very pricey "special" of the day, was NOT stuffed. This place is way too popular. We took their shuttle and got here at 7:20 on a Thursday night. They quoted an hour wait. They seated us inside in 40 minutes. Once seated, our service was good and the food was excellent. I figure they have two major problems: Not enough servers and an inadequate kitchen. In our room there were 8 empty tables and only two that were occupied. The situation outside was similar. Would I recommend this place? Only if you have plenty of time. read more

First of I want to say that our waitress was very sweet and did a really great job (her name started with a K but can't remember it). Sadly the wait staff is at the mercy of the food which was completely awful! The steak ($45 for just the steak) was just pathetic. Pretty sure the cook made the grill marks with a cigarette! It was a horrible experience from the start. The service was not good at all. We were in no hurry to eat so we enjoyed a drink and relaxing from a day of hiking. We were served our drinks and our order was taken for our meals An hour later we still were waiting on our meals. Our server had totally disappeared and when i finally hunted her down I got nothing but excuses. Management was rude and we were offered one slice of cheesecake for our inconvenience. The 3 stars and the 3 dollar signs are very accurate for this restaurant. As noted by others, great views and a very interesting story behind the place (was originally the home of a very rich uranium miner) and the food was okay if pricey. Drinks however were not okay and ultra-pricey. I drink, and make, Old Fashioneds frequently but none look like theirs nor tastes like a cherry coke mixed with cough syrup. 15/10!! WOW! This was the most perfect way to spend our Spring Break in Moab. We only had 2 nights in Moab and we ate at the Sunset Grill both nights. No regrets! The first night we sat out on the patio and had a Wendell as our server. At first, I thought Wendell was the owner because of his demeanor and how knowledgeable he was about the history, the building, the town, and the menu. (Later, we found out that the owner was another polite gentleman (David) and he actually gave us a mini tour of the building AND shuttled us for free to and from our hotel- but of course we tipped him $20 each way. Owner or not, he was working and tending to all guests. PS call ahead to schedule the shuttle to pick you up!) Our first meal on the patio, I had their famous prime rib with a loaded baked potato, and added grilled shrimp, my brother tried their "Rustler Rib Ribeye" and it was maybe slightly better than the prime rib. My son enjoyed a ribeye as well and he is quite picky with his steaks- he said it was the best steak he had ever had (I took a bite and agreed). We enjoyed some cocktails (free shuttle helped with that) and got the chocolate mousse pie for dessert the first night. The second night we went up later in the evening to see the city lit up at dark, what a total different perspective than being there during the sunset. Definitely recommend dining in both settings if possible. We had Hilder as our server and he had a very calm, pleasant demeanor. We never felt rushed to enjoy our meals and spent time enjoying the view walking around the restaurant to see all the history and even enjoyed some time out on the patio with my son. We enjoyed the filet mignon, the salmon fillet, and the linguine Olivia. That might have been the best pasta dish I had ever had! We enjoyed the wild mushroom app, and their chocolate soufflé dessert. The price is very reasonable as all meals are very well portioned and come with a decent sized dinner salad. After hiking and biking both days, the meal was exactly what we needed to fuel us on our next adventure. The hostesses were friendly, the busser/food runners were quick and we enjoyed one of the best meals and experiences I have ever had! Sunset Grill is an absolute must if you are in Moab. They are closed on Sundays, so make sure you plan your trip around that! They take reservations for larger groups, but we were able to walk in and didn't have to wait longer than 15 minutes to be seated. I actually talked to the owner about having my wedding here because the food and the views are just out of this world- hoping I can make this dream come true! I usually don't write bad reviews but the food here was so overpriced and bad I had to. I literally ate only 1/3 of my prime rib when I was starving.It was so tough that it made my jaw hurt. My husband also left his meal. His meal was prime rib special and it costed $58. My waiter asked if I wanted a Togo container but we literally didn't even want to take it with us. It was that bad! We ordered two drinks that was special but each were 22 bucks each. Their version of special is not special! They just scam you of your hard earned money. I literally thought that free breakfast from our Hyatt that we stayed just below them was way better than $250 meal. Save your money and go somewhere else. If you are looking for a restaurant that has a long history with unique views, then this is your place. If you're looking for a quick bite with the typical diner experience and concerned about the menu price, then probably look elsewhere that's not what this place is about. They have a prime rib thats prepared similar to a grilled ribeye and it is exceptionally good. They have the typical prime rib also and it is also very tasty. Their portions are large, so ask for the children's portion if you're not that hungry or just prefer smaller portions. They have a decent assortment of menu items to fit most tastes. If it's windy outside, you might prefer to sit inside. Given its location, the wind can't get pretty gusty outside. Overall a great experience and the reason we went on back to back evenings.
