Came here for a bachelor party with a group of 4. Steaks were not cooked well or high-quality. Super stringy and I got maybe 30 to 40% of actual edible meat off of the cut . It was their prime rib special surf & turf for approximately 60 bucks and I left super disappointed especially for spending that much on a plate. Past that what really threw me off was three servers and a manager had to come over to our table and double check one of our companions IDs that sitting with us ,he was 27. It's just embarrassing and impolite to have to put us on the spot like that and cause everybody on the terrace to look at us as if we're causing an issue when the server couldn't have just done his job and scanned the ID and in the end of it and have to sit there and interrogate us and then have two more people come over until a manager finally came over with ID scanner to confirm it was legitimate. Super unprofessional how they handled it . The view was the best thing definitely wouldn't recommend anybody go there for the food or the service. read more

Overpriced for what it is. I ordered prime rib, which was good but I had to send it back because it was rare instead of medium rare. My husband's pecan crusted chicken did not have a nice flavor (from my perspective). I would have sent it back. Asparagus was not the nice thin kind but very thick tho it was cooked well. Very few gluten free options. Prices are very high and they don't allow substitutions. What they call a 50's vibe I call seedy and dirty, especially the bathroom. I won't be back. On the plus side, nice high view of Moab and very nice staff. I would suggest you check the menu online before going. If it is more than you want to pay, go see the view and eat elsewhere. read more

I'm a Moab local. We've eaten at Sunset many times. Well last night was disappointing. We ordered The Rustler steak. In the past we've never had to pay extra for it. It was always same price as prime rib. Last night it was $58 Prime Rib is $38. It came with a mushroom sauce and three shrimp on top of the steak. The baked potato was mostly cheese. I don't know where the potato was. Service was excellent. That's not quite the meal we've had in the past. Service and atmosphere is always excellent. read more

Stayed next door, or should I say under at the Hyatt place. We were starving after spending the day driving from flagstaff and being at monument valley. Drove up to the restaurant which is located on top of a steep hill overlooking all of Moab. The best location for a restaurant in the area, and breathtaking views from every vantage point. I live in Orange County, and for people in SoCal, it's similar to eating, view wise to Orange hill. It's that good. The food here is really good for the area. My prime rib, which I took a picture of was perfectly cooked and came with a mushroom sauce on top. Was absolutely delicious and started our trip out the right way in the area. Also very kid and family friendly restaurant. Also recommend having the chocolate soufflé. It was perfect ending to dinner. Our service here was also outstanding. Came frequently to check on us. About the only thing I would change, is that the cocktails could be improved. It's hard to get good cocktails in Utah unless you're in SLC. They were decent, and I experimented and tried an off menu cocktail old fashioned with scotch. Probably would stick with a good bourbon since scotch is better drank alone on the rocks. So before we flew into Moab, we scouted out the eateries, but we knew that in the winter there's not a whole lot going on. we originally kind of wrote this place off because it didn't have a lot of stars. But when our top choice was closed for the entire week and the other place was close for a private holiday party, we decided to check out this place for my Birthday Dinner I thought the history and ambience were great! The drinks and food were awesome! And our waitress, Abby, AMAZING!!! I had no idea we were going to get a history lesson and learn so much! They have the whole story embedded throughout the menu about the rag-to-riches story of Charlie Steen. We got there around 6pm, just in time to watch the sky change over the rocks. Ordered drinks, my Raspberry Margarita (the special) was perfect with the colors the sky was changing to, really set the mood. My husband was happy with his Old Fashioned. I ordered the Honey Pecan Chicken and it was like dinner and dessert. Not, overly sweet, but done just right. And the asparagus were great size and cooked to perfection. Homemade bread was a great addition. I found this place delightful! I would eat there again! Abby was a great waitress! After a busy day exploring Moab we were a walk in at 6:15 and they were able to seat us. This restaurant had been on our list so we were excited to try it. First of all, what a cool story! Just looking around the restaurant and seeing old photos of the original owner was amazing. We were there as the sun was going down and it was spectacular. The food was delish and our server Heather was the BEST! She had us all laughing, met our needs as a family of 5 and we felt like we gained a friend in Moab when we left. Been coming to Moab for years, I've never had the opportunity to visit Sunset grill until this past trip wrapping up Easter Jeep Safari week. The food, drinks, service, and entire experience was great. If you are coming after sunset in the spring or fall, bring an extra coat if you plan on sitting outside on the patio as it cools off quickly. Please don't waste your money on this place. We were seated at 6pm. We saw guests that were waited on that came in after us. It took forever to get served and they said they were out of the dinner item two in our party ordered. After finally getting our meal I found that the meat I ordered was totally inedible. When I say it was tougher than shoe leather I mean I couldn't even chew the first bite. It did not help that it was dryer than Moab sand. When we said that we were disappointed we were told by our server that it wasn't her fault. She said that she just worked there. I don't know when I've been this disappointed in a meal or service provided. It was so loud that we couldn't carry a conversation with our friends at the table. Don't bother with the Overpriced Sunset Grill. Take my word. It's very bad. read more

We had terrible time for dinner at this restaurant i ordered French onion soup for an appetizer and it tastes like watered down beef broth with like only two pieces on onion and a little bread and cheese on top. My dinner arrived before the nasty French onion wtf you pay for the view not the horrible food the serve and that was way overpriced the steak wasn't cooked to order for my wife and they wanted to give me my dinner alittle later and I sent it back. The waiter did come back to collect. No manager came to our table to apologize for thier horrible food. I do not and will not reccomend this overpriced place to anyone. The only thing this place has going for it is the view. If they are not going to open the doors when the restaurant is open, they should at least let you come in and sit down so you don't sit in a 104 degree heat. We were one out of two people waiting at 5:10 PM to get a seat. Was at Sunset Grill yesterday. Sat down at a lovely table outside with a fantastic sunset view at 6:30. We ordered a drink and an appetizer and ordered our meal. We received our drink and appetizer promptly. It took a very long time for our dinner to be served. Tables of people who arrived after us received their meals way ahead of us. We finally received our dinner at 830. After taking two bites from my chicken dinner which was not very good, we asked for to go boxes and left . We had a wonderful meal at Sunset Grill. We actually picked Sunset because of their hilltop view over Moab but our dinners were wonderful. My husband had the NY Strip which he said was a good cut of meat, cooked as ordered and seasoned well. I had the Lemon Chicken which had great flavor and lots of veggies loaded on top. We were so pleased with our dinner choice. You will love the view, the service and the meal. Disappointing dining experience last Saturday night. Called the day before for reservations and was told no reservations, but to come in at 8:30 pm for the steakhouse's best seating For a party of 5. Staying at Hyatt Place so quick drive up the hill for the million dollar view. Arrived to find a one hour wait time. Asked to be seated on the patio. Once we were called, we found we were the last party to be seated. Our table was inside the dated party room with a reflective view from a plexiglass-type window and a group of 20 being cashed out. We were told they were sold out of baked potatoes/rice would be served as an alternative. Okay, fine. We came for the filet. The style of the menus looked to be from the 1970s. We ordered specialty cocktails and the bruschetta appetizer which turned out to be the highlight of the evening. Should have left at that point, but we're all looking forward to filets. Ready to order and were then told they had run out of the filet choice. Okay, by then it was nearly 10 pm and the likelihood of moving to another restaurant was slim. We ordered the ribeye, prime rib, shrimp scampi and chicken. Ribeye was ordered medium and arrived over cooked and inedible. The prime rib was probably the last of the cut. The scampi was a big plate of noodles with shrimp mixed in. The chicken was a pounded flat smothered cutlet. All expensive entrees for substandard, new bride quality at best. The kitchen then forgot to start our chocolate soufflé dessert so we waited in the party room with a table full of disappointing entrees in front of us while three set up crew, oblivious of our presence, noisily chatted and sat up tables around us for the next day. Our desserts were packed to go and comp'ed by a gracious waitress. Net/Net: Go early (5pm) to ensure a more pleasurable filet patio experience rather then a substandard meal with no view for $300+. We came here three times during our visit to Moab-- yes! Our first servers name started with a V. Her name is slipping my mind but it was a beautiful and unique V name. Second server was Eric, third was Kassandra!! All incredibly exquisite and personable. All seemed to love their job and really were just unique and fun individuals in general. The salmon is to die for, that soy sherry sauce is great with fish and red meat! The desserts both chocolate soufflé and crème brûlée were delicious. So was the prime rib especially the shrimp. And that mushroom sauce that came with the steak? Wow I would have ordered that as my own entree. I wanted to be friends and stay in contact with all the servers! Oh yes, can't forget about David. The lovely manager and also our shuttle service these last few days. He is quite the gem. Such a wonderfully staffed establishment! Oh yes, and it was the home of the gentleman who discovered Uranium in Utah! So much history and lore here. Golden ancient footsteps here! Oh one more thing! Marcelo! He was another gem. I can't believe how many amazing people work here.. V, Eric, Kassandra, David and Marcelo!! So lucky for this experience Can't wait to be back in Moab and also Sunset Grill. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately, that was the highlight of our visit. Service started off very slow, I eventually had to get up and ask where our server was. To make matters worse, we were seated in a back room where the air conditioning wasn't working, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. We started with the bruschetta, which tasted more like jarred salsa than something freshly prepared. I ordered the Olivia pasta, which was tasty. My husband had the strip steak, which was actually quite good and the best part of our meal. I asked the server if they had espresso martinis and specified that I didn't want Baileys in it. What I received was a chocolate martini made entirely with Baileys :( Unfortunately, I wouldn't return, which is disappointing given how beautiful the location is. "STUFFED SALMON", a very pricey "special" of the day, was NOT stuffed. The waiter brought a burned and dried out, old, freezer burned, VERY fishy chunk of something that was mostly salmon colored whn the char was scraped off. I could have cried for the salmon that gave up its life to be destroyed by the inept and brutal "CHEF". We both got a salad, seasoning was a bit too strong for Italian. Then they brought our meat, both of them medium, not rare, I asked the waitress to check showing a cut that was not red. She came back, the steak cut in half, with the word from the chef that it is rare. We let it go but I would suggest to eat cheap, the food is probably not worth it. This place is way too popular. We took their shuttle and got here at 7:20 on a Thursday night. They quoted an hour wait. They seated us inside in 40 minutes. Once seated, our service was good and the food was excellent. I figure they have two major problems: Not enough servers and an inadequate kitchen. In our room there were 8 empty tables and only two that were occupied. The situation outside was similar. Would I recommend this place? Only if you have plenty of time. read more
