I finally made it here for breakfast today with my husband and regret not coming sooner. The staff and hostess were so friendly. I really enjoyed the beach like atmosphere as well as the display of delicious pies to my left as you enter. The chocolate chip pancakes were sweet and delectable just like I hoped and big! Devoured! My husband and I shared a bit of potato pancake hash and grits. Delicious and thank you for the bottomless fresh cups of coffee. We took two pieces of pie to go I'm sure they are incredible. Great food. I ordered one of their specials a 20oz porter house ohhh my!!!! I was expecting the steak to taste like in the big commercialized steak houses, but to my surprise it's better. The steak had flavor from the rendered fat and chard grill taste. My fiancé ordered the French dip and it was not the same old thinly sliced meat. It was a little thicker and very tender. I had the homemade chicken soup as well and that was great too. The portions are big, but I was so hungry and the food tasted so good we ate it all. Hahahah... We left very full and a to go slice of apple pie to enjoy later as a snack . No matter what you order, this place is Yummers!! They have a friendly staff and the pies.. oh my! The owners have remodeled the restaurant and it is even more pleasant to dine at. Modern updates and more open feeling inside the dining area., makes your dining experience a pleasure. The food and service is still top notch. Prices are very competitive and the portions are more than adequate. Have lived in Clearwater for more than a decade but until recently had never visited Sunset Grill. I brought the family in mid-week and the wait staff was instantly attentive. We were seated and drinks were brought out almost immediately. The server was polite, kind to our church, and diligent in her service. The inside of the Grill had been completely redone and is quite charming with whitewashed brick, shiplap walls, and modern farmhouse decor. The coffee is kinda your typically cafe coffee (nothing special but not bad) but the food is incredible! We have been back twice since that first visit and everything we have tried (the omelets, cornbeef hash, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, etc) has been piping hot and absolutely delicious. This is a local spot and it's always packed. They have great breakfast and many options for lunch. I've never tried their dinner but it all looks good. Expect it to be crowded and very very loud! They remodeled during the pandemic and the place is clean and fresh.... but very noisy with a lot of echoing on the hard wall surfaces of their dining area. This place is horrible on every level. Went on a Sunday, had to wait, I get it. What good breakfast place isn't busy on a Sunday. That wasn't the issue. When we sat down, we were "greeted" by our server. She was extremely rude, horrible energy, and made me feel bad for even showing up. After we waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, it came with cold toast and overcooked omelettes. My bacon never arrived and I'm not surprised, she was rushing off as I was ordering. Our waitress literally did what she wanted. She just came and filled up coffee randomly without even asking, and then dropped off a random water that appeared to be from another table. I've been craving a BLT. We went to Sunset Grill for lunch. I had the BLT and sweet potato fries. The bacon was crunchy, the tomato juicy red, and lettuce crisp. Perfection. The sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. It was served with a pickle and great Cole slaw. My friend had the French dip and regular fries and said they were really good as well. It was a great lunch, topped off with the creamiest peanut butter pie in a chocolate crumb crust. I couldn't finish that and had to take it to go. It was a cute atmosphere with fun lighting and attentive staff. What more could you want? Five stars!! read more

Haven't eaten at SG for a while; used to go there all the time when food and prices were good. We decided tonight to get a take-out order at Friday at 5:00. I ordered Cheeseburger and order of fried mozzarella sticks and hubby ordered cod sandwich. First, background noise was so loud the hostess could not hear me and had to ask me several times to repeat my order. Second, she spent crazy amount time arguing when I told her I didn't want any sides...just the sandwiches..."I have to charge you the same prices so you might as well get them: soup, salad, fries." No, I really don't want them..."But you should get them - you have to pay for them." Finally said sure okay, whatever. 2 meals were $40.00. The order: cheeseburger had no cheese. Fries were cold and there was enough for 6 orders between the two meals (5 good fries would have been better) ; hubby loves clam chowder (one of the sides we had to order and didn't want) but he took one bite and said "worse I've ever eaten-tastes like wall paper paste" and tossed it. Very very disappointed. Not sure what changed but...wow, did it change. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this restaurant to family and friends. read more

I have always enjoyed eating at Sunset Grill in Clearwater until my most recent experience on a Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago. My husband and I had gone in for a nice dinner, and I decided on the Blackened Chicken dinner entrée (Not the chicken sandwich). Which, mind you, is different? It is a butterfly breast, not a flattened chicken breast on a bun. However, I ordered the entrée, delivered as a chicken sandwich. I had the waitress return the sandwich to the kitchen. The cook/Mgr that was cooking that evening promptly returned the plate to me, still as a sandwich, slid it across the table in irritation, and said it's the same chicken, as I proceeded to tell him I didn't order a sandwich. He turned and walked away, not taking my plate to correct the issue. I took the thin chicken breast off the bread and removed all the lettuce and tomatoes to be put on another plate. Upon our leaving, I did happen to see a waitress who usually always waits on us, and I had a pleasant visit with her; when she had asked about our meal, I explained what had happened, and she was genuinely apologetic and would let the owner know of the incident, as that is unacceptable behavior. While I understand that the cook/manager may have been having a challenging evening or dealing with other issues, I was disappointed by his response. It is never acceptable to slide a plate across the table and walk away while a customer is in mid-conversation without addressing the issue, regardless of the circumstances. read more

We've driven by for years and so last night we decided to give it a try. It is very close to the entrance to the Top Of The World community and rightly so, caters to those folks. We were seated in an unusual booth that is one of two between the bar and the kitchen...not exactly a prime location to get the lay of the land. However, the waitress was quite friendly and helpful despite our secluded location. They have quite an extensive menu. I ordered the beef stew over noodles(one of the daily specials) with a side salad and my partner ordered the grilled chicken breast with a baked potato and the chicken Rosalini soup. My side salad was pretty basic and the beef stew was a flavorful huge portion(even for me). The grilled chicken was very tasty, too. It had some delicious Greek seasoning on it. My only disappointment was that I did not order the chicken soup, as well. We both had one of the complimentary desserts(rice pudding) and it was very good. For a reasonable Greek diner meal, the Sunset Grill is a good place to try. On our next visit, we will order some Greek dishes...particularly the lamb shank. read more

This used to be a favorite restaurant for breakfast. However, the ownership changed and it is no longer the same place. Prices went up, quality went down, the menu was reduced removing much of the variety (especially the omelette selection) I enjoyed. One more thing: Too many Trumpers dine there. This used to be one of my favorite places and it was always packed. It was not fancy, but it was great food and reasonably priced. They had wonderful pies and everything was huge portions and delicious. Then they remodeled and I hear it's now new owners. The prices have doubled and the portions are half what they used to be. We've tried it twice thinking we'd give it another shot and it was just mediocre and cost a lot.. like Bonefish prices and very small prices. Our waiter brought our salads with our meals, he never brought us rolls and didn't offer to refill our drinks. Gave 2 stars because it's a nice remodel, but I'll never go back. read more

Not awful! Really just standard breakfast fare...nothing unique or delicious. We had a large table of food and all of it was serviceable, bland and non-offensive. Our group were the only people without silver hair in the entire (packed) place, so it's obvious why they need to make things taste kinda like cafeteria food. They are catering to the main crowd and that's fine...I'm 50 years old and I felt like a teenager again in comparison! I would probably never come back for the food or atmosphere, but the pies are awesome...the olds and the youngs (and all in between) can agree on pie! read more

I was very impressed with this restaurant. We were promptly greeted when we entered and told it would be just a few minutes. They were packed but we only waited about 5 minutes. The server was at our table quickly and got our drinks. She had a great personality and took our order quickly. Our food didn't take very long and we were glad. I had the Cobb salad with grilled chicken and it was wonderful. Very fresh and I'm a lettuce snob and not one piece was any less than fresh. There was plenty of chicken in it too. My friend had the gyro and she said it was delicious! They give you so much food that we both left with boxes. I will definitely be back. Waitress was very rude and the food was just Ok. Traditional eggs B... the English muffin is toasted, not grilled. Tasted like it wasn't done and very nappy. Waitress started by taking our order. Wife asked if the could put a certain type of olives in her omelet and she replied, "if we have it". Never checked or came back to let us know. I honestly had forgotten about this place after Covid, could not believe what a great renovation they did during that time. Food and service were still excellent. I had the Sheppard's Pie and enjoyed every bite. Two people in my party had liver & onions, they said it was great and I will take their word for it. Turkey with all the fixin's was also great. Didn't know that until we got up to walk out due to one of our dining companions being served a house salad that looked as it it had been scraped off another plate, brown wilted lettuce and yellow/brown butt-end of iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, and slimy stringy onions. And that was only one of the issues. We had been going here for decades. The server, as we were leaving said (his exact words) "they sold the place, new owners, and the place has gone to sh*t." My parents visit this place regularly, and the other previous location in Safety Harbor. The food is consistently very delicious, and competitively priced. I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here several times and have rarely been disappointed. While I'm not fond of the Italian dishes, all the rest on their expansive menu have always been good, if not excellent. My blackened salmon salad was one of the best I've ever had. Hands down, no competition for best breakfast in Pinellas County. The trick is in the way they make their eggs. They are not greasy and have plenty of yummy ingredients. The hash browns are best either crispy or well-done. The staff is super friendly and the family that runs the place is Albanian and are great people. Zukie is one of the most highly decorated pie makers in Florida and has the most amazing homemade pies you will ever have. Must try their key lime pie which has won multiple Awards many years running. She is the national pie Champion winner! read more

Some of the best food I have had at a local family restaurant! The chicken souvlakis was so stuffed with chicken I could have eaten half and half for home, I didn't, ate it all. Down to the fries and coleslaw, also delightful. They also have a full bar if you want to partake of an adult beverage with your meal. Everything is homemade including their desserts, the tiramisu was the bomb. Took home some strawberry rhubarb pie. You really need to visit whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will find a wonderful meal waiting for you! We used to love this place but the food quality has gone way down recently from the good country cooking it used to be. My meatloaf was 3 small hamburger patties in a pool of brown gravy. Shame.
