Sorry not sorry…read more.. We've visited several Sunset Grill locations for a quick brunch, and today we gave this lesser frequented location a try. The meal started decently but didn't end quite so well. I had the $15.99 Great Canadian Omelette with a decent amount of melted cheddar, bacon and mushroom for a savoury start. Coffee here was quite watery though did provide a caffeine kick but took a while to be refilled. The $9.99 offerings of All Day Junior (2x eggs, bacon, fries, toast) and Pancake, Fruit Bacon were also OK though it's not much that you get these days for the price. Where I really had issues were their home fries. I get that they're trying to be healthy without deep frying but the potato chunks were soft & oily not resembling fries. Moreover, I stopped eating mine once I noticed a root sprouting from one chunk. Our waitress said they'd normally cut off sprouts which didn't make me feel much better as you might know! We'll be thinking twice before returning for another brunch. The location is decently sized although strangely a second coffee machine is placed behind a dining table.

It helped that the store had everything that I needed and didn't require a few more stops. I felt like a late lunch. It was 1:30 pm. It was enough time to find a breakfast joint that closes at 3 pm or so. I hadn't been to a Sunset Grill in eons. I did a search and found this one at Kingston Road, near Morningside Avenue. It's cool that I'm getting to know this area these days. I was here a couple of Saturdays ago for Boardwalk Burgers. This eatery is within the same block as Boardwalk. I had no problem finding a parking spot across from Sunset Grill at 2 pm. This restaurant closes at 3:30 pm on Saturdays. I had more than enough time to enjoy a leisurely meal. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a friendly woman. She guided me to a table. It was comfortable. Rachel was my server. She was great. She made sure that I was good throughout my meal. I got these items: - Diet Coke - French toast with scrambled eggs, sausage links, and hash browns My Diet Coke came out first. I like that Sunset Grill provides a glass with ice. It felt fancy. I loved how cold my drink was. Excellent! My food came out next. I loved the french toast. It was perfect. I spread some of the butter on both slices, followed by pouring maple syrup on them. Yum! This meal also came with my choice of eggs, sausage links, and hash browns. I asked for HP (House of Parliament) sauce. It was good with my scrambled eggs. It was a nice change of pace. I loved getting four sausage links. They were delicious and perfectly cooked. The hash browns were cubed potatoes. I liked them with both the HP sauce and ketchup. It was nice experimenting with the former. I got my bill and paid at the counter. Oddly, my credit card made a partial payment. We tried it again with the remaining sum. We were good. So weird! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean. No complaints. I had a nice experiencing dining in here on a Saturday afternoon. It was nice getting my Sunset Grill fix at long last! (382)

It has been a treat for me to find an eatery to have a late lunch after I'm done fetching groceries and completing whatever tasks that I needed to do. As someone who makes breakfast at home more than enjoying it at an eatery, I don't mind having some any time of the day. It's a treat when I can do breakfast when I'm out and about. I do like Sunset Grill, so I looked at visiting one that I had never been to. I found this one in Vaughan. I have passed by this large plaza with Yummy Market anchoring it often. I liked that this Sunset Grill was open until 4 pm on Saturdays. Most close at either 3 or 3:30 pm. I drove from the eastern part of Markham over to this eatery. It took maybe half an hour along Major Mackenzie Drive. It was a pleasant drive. Traffic was at a standstill at Dufferin. Luckily, I turned right just before it. I found a spot steps away from the eatery. I backed into a spot and realized that there was a large puddle when I opened the door. I'm glad that I had sneakers that didn't have any holes. My feet were dry and safe. I walked in. I saw the sign that said to seat myself. A nice man greeted me from behind the kitchen. I found a booth and sat myself down. He gave me a menu to look at. As a creature of habit, I have my usual order at Sunset Grill. Back was the lobster benedict, which I've had and was delicious. However, I had my heart set on French toast. Next time! My server asked if wanted anything to drink. He rattled off fresh lemonade. It sounded great. I got a Diet Coke and a lemonade. I got my usual French connection meal. It's two slices of French toast. I chose two strips of bacon and two sausage links as my side. In the past, you could only do bacon or sausage. It was nice to get the best of both worlds. For my eggs, I went scrambled. My meal came with home fries. My drinks came out first. My lemonade came in a glass. I got a glass of ice and a can of Diet Coke with Santa on it. The fresh lemonade was excellent. It tasted fresh. It was slightly sweet and had the perfect tartness that I like. I'd get it again. There's also a strawberry lemonade on the menu. I may give it a try someday. It is $1.50 more for the strawberry puree in it. It didn't take long for my food to arrive. It looked great. The female server came back to bring the maple syrup and was kind to wait for me to take a photo of my food before she put it on my table. She was super thoughtful and patient. I loved my meal. This place does French toast well. I put butter on both slices, followed by pouring maple syrup on them. They were crispy on the outside and yummy all around. My scrambled eggs were done perfectly. I was happy. I squirted ketchup in the middle of my plate to dip my home fries and sausage links in them. The home fries were yummy. I enjoyed the sausage links, which were juicy and delicious. The bacon was so good. It was crispy and straight. The downside to having sausage and bacon is that they are salty. For the first time at any Sunset Grill, I got another can of Diet Coke. Thank goodness all these drinks washed my entire meal down. It was nice to take my time eating. A 4 pm closing time works well to have a leisurely meal. I used the washroom after I had placed my order. I also used it before I left. The women's washroom has two stalls. The one that I used twice was clean. No complaints. The male staffer asked how my meal was midway through being here. Everything was yummy. The cool thing was that he brought the payment machine to me at the end of my meal. Normally, you head to the counter to pay. It was nice that I could fast-track payment. I paid with a credit card by tapping my phone. Done! I thanked him as I left this eatery. He wished me a great day and told me to take care. Such a nice touch here! I loved dining at this eatery. The food and drinks were yummy. The hours of operation on a Saturday are excellent. I'd definitely return for more good eats and drinks. (77)

The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. One of the waitresses even struck up a conversation with us, which was a nice touch and made the experience feel more personal and enjoyable. My only small preference would be the home fries. I personally like them crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside, but the ones at this location were softer overall and didn't have much of that crispy texture. Overall, still a great spot for brunch with good food and genuinely friendly service. I'd definitely come back!

We did try take out 1-2 times from here, but nothing comes close to dining in at the location. I'm not a take-out breakfast kind of person (unless it's a breakfast sammie!). I love nothing better than a Sunday family breakfast at home and I go all out with homemade pancakes, omelettes, bacon, homemade french toast etc. HOWEVER, this mama needed a cooking break and all four of us agreed that we needed a Sunset Grill fix! It wasn't busy at all when we arrived, maybe 3-4 tables filled. They still had the far left section of the restaurant closed off. It wasn't a big problem for us, but they do have a table for 6 there which does seat more comfortably for a family of 4 when we are ordering multiple drinks and having enough room to enjoy our meals. I ordered my usual: Eggs Sunset with poached eggs. I did have to send my plate back on this visit because I had asked for my poached to be a bit medium where they are runny on the inside but a little less on the outside. They were WAY too runny for me. 2nd plate came back and it was exactly what I had asked for! I love their fresh cut home fries! Had a nice hot cup of coffee with my breakfast. My kids both ordered: Three eggs scrambled with home fries and bacon. Huge generous portions compared to a couple of other local breakfast spots (which is why this one is our fav!). Hubby ordered a western omelette - nice large generous portion with a side of bacon. The service did fall a bit short on the visit where we had to reach out for water refills, napkins and coffee to be topped up. Overall the food is still consistently good and we will be back!

We came to the Newmarket location during peak dining time on a weekend and were seated right away. The patio was nice and shaded with umbrellas, even though the view wasn't exactly the best (the patio backed onto a parking lot and busy road with cars zooming by). We still got a nice gentle summer breeze with good music. I loved that there were plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Every dish could be customized to omit certain ingredients (such cheese or nuts). I also loved that there was a low-carb, keto-friendly option that was both filling and delicious (the Power Bowl, with cauliflower rice and plenty of protein and veggies). Review of the dishes: 1) Super Greens Salad - Pretty big portion for a salad, great for sharing. It consisted of plenty of mixed greens (baby spinach, romaine lettuce, cucumbers), strawberry slices which added a hint of sweetness, toasted quinoa and seeds which added nice crunchy texture, and avocado which added creamy texture. I didn't want the cheese or dressing so I asked for them to be put on the side. 2) Power Bowl - This came in 2 varieties: vegetarian (with tofu) or with tuna (as Tuna Poke Bowl in the menu). We asked for them to swap the protein with Grilled Prawns, and it turned out to be my favourite dish of the evening. I could taste the grill / char taste in the prawns - very well done and flavourful. The bowl ingredients were perfect: fresh vegetables, crisp greens, cauliflower rice, shiitake mushrooms, edamame, soft-boiled egg (that was so perfect), and avocado topped with sesame seeds. I opted to skip the spicy vegan mayo. The bowl was already packed with flavours without the mayo. 3) Lemon Basil Salmon - Another great dish. The salmon was pretty big and cooked to perfection. I really liked the ancient grains that it came with (had the texture of risotto but without the cheese), and mixed with plenty of spinach / green vegetable. The only disappointment was that the "seasonal vegetables" it came with only consisted of root vegetables (carrots and beets)... was hoping for more greens such as broccoli, asparagus, and/or Brussels sprouts. But it was still a delectable and hearty dish overall.
