This place is a gem! Best seafood I've had in a long time…read more This wasn't too far off the main road and is definitely worth the trip. Probably only 5 minutes off the route. It's homey inside and I love the decor with various sea and fishing themed items hanging - kind'of reminds me of the way a Cracker Barrel looks. We were seated immediately at about 6pm and greeted quickly by the sweet, Diana who took really good care of us. Pleasant the entire meal and quick with any refills or requests we had. It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. My halibut was grilled and was simple, fresh, and high quality. Really good cut of fresh fish and excellent size and flavor. It was around $34 for the entree. Not cheap, but delicious! Bacon wrapped scallops were good - they could've been cooked a few minutes longer to make the bacon crispy as it was a tad undercooked/soft but still good quality and flavor on everything. All in all - solid meal with good service in a charming local spot. We discussed it after leaving and decided this is going to be our go to when driving the Eastern shore from now on.

You really can't go wrong with a dozen raw local oysters and grilled flounder. We ripped through…read morethe oysters like someone was about to take them away. Chincoteague oysters are clean tasting, very briny, and super tender. I just had it with a generous squeeze of lemon and that's all I needed. I will dream of those oysters, seriously. The grilled flounder was fresh, but a little under seasoned. It would have been A+ if it had been generously salted before grilling (adding salt at the table just isn't the same). BTW, a flounder platter has three filets - so I'd recommend sharing. The sides were also generously portioned. (Onion rings will make you happy.) We had a great server, we were glad we visited during low season because I bet this place is PACKED when tourists are around.

We thought it was decent but definitely had higher expectations knowing friends and quite a few…read morepeople on the internet seem obsessed with this place. Maybe we'd come back to try something else, but probably we'd just leave this joint for the locals and check out another place. What we got: Cream of crab soup - 4* the best thing of the night. It was delicious and I wish it came with a buttered piece of bread I could dip in it. Coconut shrimp basket - 3* the shrimp are very coconut-y and I realized I just didn't love that. It came with 6 pieces of shrimp, way too many fries (they were only mediocre), 2 delicious hush puppies (best I've ever had), and 1 pickle (nice crunch). The coleslaw side was also good and had apples. Overall though I was disappointed that $17 got me a pretty unsatisfying dish. Fish and chips (friend flounder) - 3* average but nothing to write home about. Once again a lot of fries (obviously, it's a fish and chips meal) but they just weren't that good. The fish was alright as well, malt vinegar and lemon didn't jazz it up as much as was expected. The pickle, coleslaw, and hush puppies were the best part of the meal.

Seems not fresh (for sure), hushpuppies seem bought at a store not homemade. There are just much better places to get seafood. For example, go to Shuckin Shack in Summerville for fresh seafood.

The Crab Place -- Crisfield, MD…read more Steamed Crab Heaven, Delivered Across the Country We've been ordering from The Crab Place since our DC days--over 9 years ago--and have continued every year even after relocating across the country to Reno/Sparks. The FedEx overnight shipping for these time-sensitive, freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs is insanely expensive--but so worth every penny. The crabs arrive fat, rich, and impossibly sweet--capturing the inimitable flavor that makes Maryland blues stand out. Don't get me wrong--I love Alaskan King, Dungeness, and Snow Crabs, but only Maryland blues have my heart. The Company puts a lot of love into protecting that perfection: - Crabs are packed in styrofoam crates with bubble wrap barriers to shield them from the dry ice, so nothing arrives accidentally frozen. - Often, they include a few extra crabs, just in case one or two don't meet their own high standards. That thoughtfulness goes a long way. While these steamed beauties are mouthwatering anytime, the prime season is in September, after they've had the summer to fatten up in their shells. That's when they're absolutely bursting with flavor and texture. Having said that, I still can't resist ordering for Memorial Day to officially kick off the summer and in June to honor daughter's annual request for her birthday feast. This is more than a crab shipment--it's a tradition. From coast to coast, The Crab Place delivers a piece of Maryland's culinary soul with quality, care, and consistency. For any true crab lover, this is the gold standard.
