The chicken is decent. Nice employees too. This gas station has a little bit of everything. Decent selection of fresh coffees. Gas prices are competitive. It's on the north side of 13. You can access it either way with ease. Glad it's here. Good to have a bit of chicken. The picnic tables were comfortable enough. Prices are reasonable for a convenience store. Went to get some fried chicken for my family at around 8:40 this evening. The woman behind the counter let me know that what was in the case is all that she had because she wasn't cooking anymore. There was very little in the case unless you wanted spicy chicken tenders. Not impressed. read more

Very disappointing. Usually Royal Farms are better than this. There was only one fuel pump station with a sponge/squeegee and that one had a ripped sponge. We were blitzing down 13 from PA on our way to the OBX when nature called. Normally that would have been pretty easy while on the road since if you're most places in the mid-Atlantic region, you just find the nearest Wawa and all your dreams come true. Nay-Nay on this one. Why? Because this is an area of the Eastern Shore where so far, Wawa has yet to invade and it's basically a one-horse town with Royal Farms. In my neck of the woods Royal Farms do not exist but the few I have been to have mostly been respectable. This one...not so much. Picture it: (Sicily 1912) It's two Sundays ago and this place is ripping busy. I had a brief wait for a gas pump and then I made the mistake of going inside. Lines were the theme. Only one register area open/available and that was ten-ish deep. No self-serve kiosks like at the few other RF's I've been to (granted this place is probably too small to install a few) and while there was a second person behind the counter, she seemed to be off in her own little world of doing nothing/inventory while her co-worker was drowning. Actually, I forgot, the old do-nothing second person was doing something. The women's restroom had a six to seven deep line and as they came up to her to complain about that, she was telling them to just "pop in and use the men's side." O.K. then. I eventually took care of business, waited in line to buy a drink and was on my way. From the two employees smoking outside the front entrance, to the crazy lines, to the bathroom which looked like it could have come from a house on Hoarders, this one was a bit much. Never. A quick stop at this Royal Farms to visit the restroom and buy a bottle of cold water. The store is in very good condition and there is a big selection of drinks including beer. I was impressed that there is a Tesla charging station here that has four chargers. It's not in the shade but it is in the corner of the convenience store parking lot if you want to get a snack or use the restroom while you're charging. The bathrooms aren't that gross. The prices are on par with what you'd expect to find at a gas station convenience store stop like this one along this route. Service isn't friendly per se, but it's also not terrible. Everything runs well at this Royal Farms like an oiled machine. Not a bad stop in a pinch. read more

We had to stop somewhere along the road during our 330 mile drive from Newport News to Bucks County. Royal Farms is ubiquitous along Route 13/113 in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, so we agreed to check it out. First impression was that the store was smaller than expected and as compared to similar places with different names. Their fried chicken was predominantly displayed and spread its aroma all around. Still, hot oily chicken didn't appeal to our primary goal of driving while we ate and we didn't want to sit in the tight dining area. So we passed on that and went with a few bags of nuts, a couple of Krispy Kreme and Java. The mens' restroom was also small, with only one throne and a single pisseur. A bit of leakage on the tile floor, too. Not a great roadside way station, and certainly not an attractive representative of the genus. If you're looking to stop here, make sure it is only to fill up for gas. Our family is in town for a wedding and needed a quick bite to eat after a late night: 1). We ordered 4 sandwiches and potato wedges and that came out to $50. After ordering we noticed the amount of flies that were hovering over the food and signage above. There were 30+ to be exact (I wish I was joking). After noticing that, and going to the bathroom (see below), we threw our food away and ended up driving .25 miles down the road to McDonald's. 2). The bathrooms are horrendous. The smell of urine hits you in the face as you open the door. One of the stalls was out of order and the other stall had 6 flies on the toilet seat and was covered in filth. Additionally, the amount of mold growing on the sink was disgusting. You can tell that the restroom hasn't been cleaned in arguably a year (maybe a decade who knows). Ironically, there is a corporate sign on the door stating that ROFO bathrooms are kept up to a quality standard, and to contact them if the conditions are less than. This is the filthiest ROFO I have ever been to, and there's no way this place would pass a health code inspection. Unless you're looking to get food poisoning or maybe pick up the next strain of whatever would cause a second pandemic, save yourself the trouble and just keep driving! read more

"World Famous" Chicken sandwich was average at best. We got the spicy version which was just the regular version with hot sauce squirted on top. Not cooked into the chicken. The real turn off was the amount of flies. I have never send that many flies inside a store in my life. Not even close. There was also a swarm of them outside. So just stopped here to get gas and use the restroom. Worst gas station bathroom experience EVER. I was hoping with a corporation like royal farms there would be cleanliness. The line for the ladies bathroom was 15-20 people long, the sanitary napkin disposal was overflowing in the non handicap stall... I wanted to get sick from the sight and the smell. There were no paper towels and the electric dryer was as out of order. There was an employee on break next to the line and everyone in line was having to grab napkins from all the dispensers which will inevitably become empty the next hour. Any inclination that i would have had to grab food or drink went right out the window. I will spare everyone by not including photos... it was that bad. Royal Farms is basically a gasoline fill up/convenience store. When I was here I used their men's room which was rather gross in appearance as well as smelly. I tried some of their fried chicken which they purport to say is "World Famous." Well, I have to say it was pretty good but I would say "World Famous" might be somewhat of a stretch, and as far as that Food and Wine Magazine about being "the best fried chicken," the whole of that statement is deeply limited and qualified as being the "..best a la gas station." I had cleared the Chesapeake Bridge/Tunnel, and I was running low on water. I was also a bit hungry, and this was the first place that caught my eye. I parked, and already got a bad vibe from the place. I walked in nonetheless. I looked for a gallon of water, and found that they only sold the smaller bottles. I didn't really see a good selection of snack to munch on while I found an actual sit down diner. I used their restroom, which was ok as far as cleanliness. I did not like the crowd here, and I promptly left. Maybe to some this is a better experience, but this place had nothing for me. We stopped in here to get some food for breakfast, and we purchased fresh fruit. Unfortunately the fruit was not fresh, and the strawberries were growing mold. It was absolutely gross and ridiculous considering the fact that the fresh by date was the next day, so it should've been good! Wow. If you can avoid this place I would do so at all cost. I stopped in for some food and a restroom break while on a road trip for work. The staff specifically Zay was completely rude and inattentive to customers needs. When I mentioned the restroom needed attention the staff just put an out of order sign on the door and made no attempts to make the men's room usable. Even with a gross first impression I always am sure to be nice and cheerful to anyone whom is in retail bc I know it's kind of a drag. Larger women at the register didn't even care to acknowledge me even tho I asked her how her day was. Then after I paid made my way to pick up my sandwich where I met Cynthia even more highly unpleasant I asked to put tomatoes and lettuce on my sandwich and she said I didn't choose that and she can't give it to me unless it's what the ticket says. I've worked restaurants so I know all about food inventory but never was worried about missing a few pieces of lettuce. I have gotten Royal Farms chicken regularly when we're anywhere near a RF when we want chicken, and have always had great chicken and no problems. This place was a bit different. I did an order for four thighs, payed and went over to pick up my order at which point the young gal behind the counter says "We only have 3 thighs, do you want a leg instead?" This as an older worker headed off to what might be a kitchen. No offer to have another thigh available in however many minutes, which was probably as well since I didn't want to hang around. So I said ok and got my order handed to me. I then thought to say "What's the difference in price between a leg and thigh?" Not a big deal but I was curious. She didn't know but said the cashier would. Well, she didn't either and had no way to figure it out. That was when I realized for the very first time that RF puts SOME prices in the menu but not all. And my receipt simply says 4 thighs and then the price for the 4 not "4 @ ..." per each. The chicken was good but I think their inability to fill an order when it's placed, as well as not making all their prices viewable is a sign of poor management. For what it 's worth, there were far too many flies in the food area; I don't think we'll go back to that RF anytime soon, or ever. read more
