I love this place. Top quality sandwiches. Quick service. A much better deal than any fast food chain.

I love Mexican food and avoid chain restaurants. I was excited to check this place out when I read…read morethe reviews online, My husband and I were traveling through the area and decided to stop. At first glance my husband just wanted to keep on driving. Myself I am always open for an adventure and have found some of the best Mexican food in other hole in the wall places like this. There is no indoor seating, there is a small outdoor eating area or takeout only. You wouldn't know they served food from driving by or upon entering the facility. Inside is a store where they sell many Mexican foods, beverages and produce. The inside was not very clean and a bit run down, the outside eating area was littered with cigarette butts and soda cap lids, no trash receptacle other than a thin garbage bag tied to a post that was over flowing. On a good note, the cashier was very pleasant. Our food came out timely , I was disappointed with the food, very bland, the rice was chopped up and my carnitas dry. My husband only ate 1/2 of his Burrito. Wish the food was better and the place was cleaner as we travel down that way often....

A random find on my way home from the Eastern Shore but glad I stumbled across it!…read more It's a small market/corner store that sells a lot of Hispanic goods. At the counter, you can order food (which is what I came for)! They make it fresh to order. I had an al pastor taco and a tamale. Along with a bottle of water, my total was around $3.75. Can't beat it! Everything tasted great; I ate in my car before continuing on my way. I used to live in LA and was used to super authentic Mexican food. Hard to find in the Hampton Roads/Eastern Shore area. That being said, this was one of the better places that I've tried; tasted like authentic street fare. The taco even had radishes, which was an authentic touch you just don't see around here; made me super happy. Def will stop again if passing through the area.

You reach the second floor via steep, narrow steps (about 30) with one hand rail. Assume third floor is similar. Not senior citizen friendly. And don't believe the description that says there is a chair lift. During our stay, my wife slipped on about the fifth step from the top and tumbled to the bottom. Fortunately she survived the fall, with some damage to her knee and bruising all over. Local rescue squad was prompt and professional. Ownership never reached out to us which is disappointing. Where before a breakfast was included each morning of your stay, you now are offered 15% off you breakfast, but more on that later. The dining area is a fraction its former charm, but still charming. The dinner menu is pretty good and both of our dinners each night of our stay there were excellent. For this reason I have given two stars. It would be impossible to say the same about breakfast. In one location, an 8AM breakfast opening was listed. Our Welcome Letter stated 830AM was the opening time. Neither time mattered, because on both mornings the Breakfast service wasn't even open. The entry to it was locked up like an after hours NYC Subway entrance. Saturday morning no human being could be found. We even went back at 10AM to see if it had opened yet, with no change. Sunday morning it was locked up, but there a woman behind the bar to give our key to as we checked out. On both mornings we had breakfast elsewhere. We stay at the hotel for special occasions, and this stay was no exception. Staying at the Charlotte Hotel and not having to leave it was always something we appreciated and looked forward to during the previous dozen or so times we had stayed there before. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back.

So was Sunset Beach Bar where we first arrived. There is a huge deck and a second bar outside but I expect they are just used in the high season. On the day we visited, just the inside area was open. We took a seat by the windows overlooking the beach. We were soon approached for beverages. We each got a Lime Crush. They were good, though, for $10, I kinda expected them in a larger cup. At 5:00, we were offered a trivia sheet being told trivia started at 6. We said that we weren't sure we'd be there at 6:00 but would keep the sheet at the table. We ordered a hot dog. I didn't know what toppings were available for the hot dog but under the "Sandwiches" section it listed bacon and cheese so I asked for those on the dog. That really threw our server for a loop. We might as well have ordered a unicorn steak. But after a few follow-up questions we got everything sorted. The hot dog turned out to be pretty good. Nacho cheese and lots of bacon crumbles. The place filled up quickly and trivia was getting ready to start. The trivia leader came around again and we indicated that we were getting ready to leave so someone else could come to play (all the tables and bar spots were full and folks were waiting at the door). We were met with a mocking "booooo." I know it was joking, but didn't sit well with me when we seemed like we were doing the right thing. We passed along our table to the next guests but left with a bad taste in our mouth. The experience was fine but we likely won't be back.

Mallards at the Wharf is what our GPS directed us to. The GPS just said "Mallards", so we were pleasantly surprised to see it was on Onancock Creek with boats moored adjacent to the outdoor dining deck. The hostess pointed in a vague direction to seat ourselves as she followed, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the deck and had to ask her to lead us. I thought it might put her off, but I was brain-numb from driving for the previous 7 hours. We sat in the shade with an incredible view of the boats and the creek. It was so beautiful that I didn't think the food would matter at all, which is good because it was a mixed bag. I ordered a whisky sour, with house whisky.... Whatever's in the well. Waitress didn't understand what was meant by my order, probably my bad. I was so tired that I couldn't sort my brain. We figured it out and it arrived with a slice of lemon and a slice of lime instead of a flag, so it was sour like a Warhead! We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The only thing we could taste was the oil they were fried in and the pimento cheese they were topped with. The 3 tomatoes were the thickness of a slice of Kraft American cheese and no larger than the diameter of a Pepsi can. We wouldn't order that again. Ever. We also ordered a cheeseburger, which was lovely, but wasn't served with onion, pickle, or any spread. No mustard, ketchup or mayo. It wasn't something we would order again either. Redemption came in the guise of a swordfish steak. It was grilled to near perfection, moist, flavorful and topped with cilantro microgreens. This was a delicious entree. With it was a lovely, fresh mixed leafy green salad topped with blue-cheese vinaigrette. We wouldn't go back for that dish alone, but we would go back. The menu is appealing, with a variety of seafood. I do recommend it, for the ambiance, and the swordfish. We did order a key lime cake. It was good. Not "inspired", but good. We also ordered a brownie to go. It was hot. We dodnt understand heating a brownie, when the item isn't for immediate consumption? Maybe it was hot out of the oven from being baked. I will learn to sprout cilantro microgreens, because they were excellent. When you look at the high rating, remember the rating is on "your experience", not just one aspect (the food).
