The decor is rather Spartan - grey concrete block walls, dark brown furniture, very little natural light. There are a few booths and tables in front of the register and then a larger dining area to the right of the entrance. Tables, walls, utensils, etc. were clean. Our server came by shortly after we were seated and took our beverage orders. Two regular coffees and a glass of water. The coffee was nothing special, but it was hot and tasted fresh. I ordered two eggs over easy, bacon, and rye toast. My partner ordered eggs scrambled and home fries. Despite how busy the place was, breakfast arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Eggs were done right, the portion of bacon was generous, and the home fries were good. Everything arrived hot, so it hadn't sat on the line too long. As we ate, we were asked if we wanted more coffee several times by several different servers. We've been to places where our cups are never refilled, so we appreciated the ask. Total for breakfast was around $25. This seemed reasonable in today's economy. This isn't a place for ambiance or decor, but if you are looking for basic sustenance done well, it is worth stopping.

Waitress didn't understand what was meant by my order, probably my bad. I was so tired that I couldn't sort my brain. We figured it out and it arrived with a slice of lemon and a slice of lime instead of a flag, so it was sour like a Warhead! We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The only thing we could taste was the oil they were fried in and the pimento cheese they were topped with. The 3 tomatoes were the thickness of a slice of Kraft American cheese and no larger than the diameter of a Pepsi can. We wouldn't order that again. Ever. We also ordered a cheeseburger, which was lovely, but wasn't served with onion, pickle, or any spread. No mustard, ketchup or mayo. It wasn't something we would order again either. Redemption came in the guise of a swordfish steak. It was grilled to near perfection, moist, flavorful and topped with cilantro microgreens. This was a delicious entree. With it was a lovely, fresh mixed leafy green salad topped with blue-cheese vinaigrette. We wouldn't go back for that dish alone, but we would go back. The menu is appealing, with a variety of seafood. I do recommend it, for the ambiance, and the swordfish. We did order a key lime cake. It was good. Not "inspired", but good. We also ordered a brownie to go. It was hot. We dodnt understand heating a brownie, when the item isn't for immediate consumption? Maybe it was hot out of the oven from being baked. I will learn to sprout cilantro microgreens, because they were excellent. When you look at the high rating, remember the rating is on "your experience", not just one aspect (the food).

Inside, it has the feel of a polished Irish pub--warm and welcoming--while the recently remodeled patio outside is beautifully done and perfect for a relaxed meal. The food was excellent, with solid options for kids, and the crab cakes were hands down the best I had during our trip through Virginia. Our waitress Jemiah (sorry if I am spelling that wrong) was so sweet and welcoming. Our orders for drinks and food were taken right after she introduced herself. We ordered 2 of the fried chicken meals and one pork chop dinner. Each came with two sides and cornbread. We all shared the sides and were able to all try the mashed potatoes, baked apples, collard greens (we got two orders-they were out of fried okra) macaroni and cheese and the corn pudding. All amazing! Our mains were all cooked to perfection, served piping hot and tasted great. The waitress explained that all meals were cooked to order and to expect about a 20 minute wait.
