The installation is fine. If the electrical looks botched as I have seen in some photos here, it's because you didn't plan the project very well. That's on you. Their people know what they are doing. That said, whenever an installer drills extra holes in your roof, as they did mine, they should tell you because any unused holes are a potential source of leaks as the roof ages. They did not mention the extra holes so when I found out on my own I was annoyed. These holes need to be inspected periodically to guarantee a dry house. My panels are ugly from the street. Didn't realize panels could be so ugly. Most I see don't have exposed brackets. When you buy, make sure that any street facing panels are beautiful. Solar can be beautiful, but it's up to the owner to make smart choices, and it's up to the seller to advise the owner and if necessary steer you towards beautiful panels in a street facing array. Wish I had known. Finally, I marked down Sunrun because of the loan company they work with-loanpal. I cannot log in to loanpal, and have never been able to consistently log in to my loanpal account because their login page is defective. I've tried everything. Spent an hour on the phone waiting for tech support. They fixed it once but now 6 months later I can't log in again. Very frustrating. Do whatever you can to avoid loanpal. They're a skeegie operation. read more

It has been approximately 6 months and we had had a NON WORKING Sunrun Solar System. We scheduled for repairs and about 6 Service Techs have been to our home, but nothing gets resolved. New findings and new parts are "said" they are being ordered, but no results and we are still paying. The whole system should be free of charge and we should be reimbursed for any monthly amount we paid. If we have a black out (which we did) we are in the dark and Sunrun should pay for everything....it's been way too long. We will write the CEO of the company. read more

Horrible customer service! I regret every day that I went with this solar company. The initial sales rep did not properly assess my energy usage over a period of time only reviewing one month's bill. They promised me at the onset of the sale they would assess usage and allow any adjustments after 6-10 months. Now they tell me they will not accommodate our need and add an additional battery. PLEASE buyer beware!! read more

"Sunrun's installation (Account # 242037911103) has compromised my roof, causing active leaks for the last 2 months. Despite sending technicians three times, the repair attempts have failed. My roof is still leaking, and I now have internal water damage in my attic. With heavy rain forecast in Dublin/Bay Area this week, my home is at risk of further structural damage and mold growth. Your customer service refuses to let me speak to a supervisor, claiming my 'Case Manager' is the only contact, yet they are unresponsive. This is negligence. I am currently drafting a formal complaint to the CSLB (Contractors State License Board) and sending a legal demand letter to your Registered Agent in Sacramento. If you want to resolve this before legal escalation, have a Regional Manager (not my case manager) contact me immediately." I would need Sunrun to undertake a roof replacement + interior repairs + system removal. I do not want to continue with this contract. read more

Sunrun system dead since March 26, 2025! I have been a Sunrun customer for about 10 years. I have 10 more years left on my service agreement. In the first 10 years I have had 3 inverters die. Sunrun has always been slow to repair these. But they are setting a record this time. I've been waiting 6 weeks for the repair. They did come to my house once but didn't have a spare inverter in the truck. Now I am still waiting. I call them once a week but get the same story of waiting for stock. I had one repair team that the panels were not balanced. But Sunrun has not done anything to fix that in 10 years. This is costing me money but I don't see any urgency or responsiveness from Sunrun. read more

A company like Sunrun should not be in business. They damaged my roof, and I have been reaching out since November 2024 with no resolution. They initially claimed they would fix it using a vendor they personally vouched for via email. However, when I asked for details on the scope of repairs and requested to use my own vendor, I was met with complete dismissiveness. Despite sending a certified letter and a demand letter requesting their policy, I have received no response--not even a phone call or a letter. I am sharing my experience to help other consumers avoid becoming victims of this company's negligence. Please stay away!!!! read more

Sunrun. With Toll brothers! We were forced to get sunrun solar when pitching our home. They have been a nightmare to work with. Increasing cost. Employees that don't know what they are doing. No benefit to the home buyer at all. Nagging calls, texts and e-mails. When we call they say thank you for being on autopay then we get messages saying please sign up for autopay. I don't think I would buy from toll brothers just knowing I have to deal with sunrun. We want to get into the class action suit! read more

A representative from Sunrun came to my door today. I politely told him I wasn't interested at the moment, and his response was, "That's OK. You're not a good fit anyway." That kind of attitude is completely unprofessional and left a very negative impression. If this is my first introduction to your company, it says a lot about how you treat potential customers. I understand door-to-door sales can be tough and full of rejection--but that's no excuse for being rude. A professional representative should always leave on a positive note. I may not be looking for solar now, but I could be in the future--or I might have referred a friend, family member, or neighbor. read more

My original system was installed in October 2021 and has reduced my PGE bills but not as much as expected. I was contacted by Sunrun in Dec 2024 and told my original system was under-designed by their subsidiary Vivent Solar, and i could add panels and batteries for a fixed monthly cost with first year only $12. They have reneged on that, saying my system doesn't not meet a minimum capacity which was not in the original agreement. Now i'm told my additional 8 panels and 2 batteries installed this cannot be in service for a year because it will take PGE 12 months to upgrade the nearest transformer. That's BS that I have come to expect from PGE, but SunRun sold me equipment that i can't use for a year, and they didn't know that? The March install required 4 city inspections due to wiring errors by the installers. It is difficult to reach anyone who will do anything about all this. Not happy with SunRun. Will not recommend them again, which i did in 2021 to several neighbors. read more

DO NOT buy solar batteries from Sunrun. I started the process in Jan 2025 and here it is August and still not operational. They have continuously failed electrical inspections and delayed appointments. They clearly have no regard for customer satisfaction and because of failed inspections, I doubt their technical expertise. They always fail to follow up with verbal commitments to me, seldom return calls, and email requests go into a black hole. read more

I used Yelp to find a solar installation company for our home. I wrote down everyone who contacted us and did a quick review of all companies. Sun run had the worst reviews I've ever seen so I crossed them off our list. Keep in mind I posted this late Thursday afternoon. Since this was posted we've had 13 phone calls from them! My husband told them during one of their calls today that we'd already picked a company and not to call again--since then we've had TWO MORE CALLS! I hope someone from this company is reading these reviews because I have to say this is NOT THE WAY A FUNCTIONAL COMPANY IS RUN!!! This smacks of desperation...this is NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE...it's harassment! read more

I'm pretty sure this company has straight up ghosted us. Everything seemed great at first. I contacted them in January to inquire about getting solar installed at our house. The sales person quickly scheduled a site visit. The person came out to look at our house. We were told that we'd get a plan in the next couple weeks, after which point we could get started with the installation. However, it's now been TWO MONTHS and we've heard nothing from the company. I've tried calling and emailing the sales representative and the company multiple times to get on the status but have gotten ZERO response. At this point, I'm pretty sure we're being ghosted. What's really frustrating is that our goal was to have everything installed by April so that we could get in before the change in the law, which our sales rep said would be no problem at all given that we started the process months in advance. And had we not been dragged along by Sunrun all this time we might have been able to go with another installer and meet the deadline. Update #1 4/7/2023 - On March 29, the company replied to this post and asked that I contact them so they could help resolve the issue. After emailing them, I was told that I would be contacted by a member of the sales team. That was over a week ago. I've still not heard anything. Looks like it's happened yet again...Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Update #2 4/10/2023 - So I've still not been contacted by someone from Sunrun, despite being promised by the rep who reached out to me on Yelp. Now, I just received an automated email from Sunrun telling me that my project had been cancelled. Mind you, I signed a contract with them to do an installation several months ago. What a horrendous experience this has been. I can't believe this is a functional business. I've never dealt with a company that's so unprofessional. It's almost as if they're trying to be bad on purpose. It's pretty remarkable. smh. read more

I'm so dissatisfied and and disappointed with Sunrun. After having my project put on hold for almost 10 months (due to construction), I was eager to get back on track with them. Solid communication and professional right up until installation day this week. Here are the issues: 1) There was no confirmation in the days leading up to the install. I emailed the evening prior to the install to confirm and received an answer the next morning. I was also told that I'd be given a 15 minute walkthrough with the foreman to discuss the install and safety plan. No discussion at all of the safety plan and there was clearly a lack of communication between the designers and the installers; the foreman had to call twice to verify things that I did not know about. Also, the appointment confirmation email commented extensively on COVID safety but they did not adhere to it; 2) two of the guys had their masks on about 75% of the time and I NEVER even saw the other two men with masks on or even in their possession; 3) the design plan that I agreed to was different than what the installers were told to do. I had been told that my battery backup would be located inside my garage and that I would be able to connect and back up three electrical outlets in my house. Apparently that couldn't be done because of my electrical panel and they said I'd have to run an extension cord from the house all the way to an outlet on the exterior of the house for the battery backup (about 150 feet). Considering the price and inconvenience, I never would have agreed to this had I been told beforehand. At that point the crew stopped working because I wanted to clarify the plan with the regional manager. While speaking to him he insisted that I had signed off on this plan last November..,nope, I've gone over it several times and there is no mention of this at all. Furthermore, this was not noted as something that I needed to complete when they did their site survey and notified me of pre-installation work that I needed to complete. I then cancelled the install and had the crew remove the casings they had already begun to install on the roof. They sealed the holes (hopefully correctly) but my new roof looks terrible now, due to shingles that were removed (?), visible flashing and pink chalk marks. I've been told by the regional manager that the local manager would be in touch with me to discuss repairs but I have not heard from him. No work should have commenced until the foreman went over everything with me, especially since my project had been on hold for most of the year. Had this been done then there would not be any damage to my roof. read more

I'm going to end my long string of 'updated' reviews by saying I still believe a 1-star review is appropriate for Sunrun's post-sales support. It's been 140 days since Sunrun 'blew up' my system - making it completely inoperable. Throughout this ordeal, post-sales support has been absolutely horrible. The last bit of news I was given is that my battery is not available to power my house for over 50% of the time during the summer months because the battery discharges back to the grid. With my battery, you can send energy to the grid or you can have it available for back-up to your house. It's one or the other with little flexibility to change the percentage. A good piece of information to know before you by a battery... or perhaps with NEM 3.0 this is no longer an issue. In closing, terrible post-sales support. I've gotta believe there are other companies out there that are much better than Sunrun. read more

Ok, since I had that bad experience, SunRun have been extremely helpful with their response. It seems like there was one bad apple. I am very grateful to them for their diligence and attention to our issues. The customer service agent assigned to our case was responsive and eager to try and resolve the issues we were having. So, after a poor start from one employee, I have nothing but good things to say. Thank-you Carrie. read more

I understand you guys go door to door. When we open the door and say wassup. A good intro from your side is a must as your rep is the face of the company. I open the door ask the guy wass up, what are you here for. He said he wanted to speak with the owner. I am a pretty young homeowner, so I asked, may I know the reason for knocking on my door and what you are selling. The rep just wanted to speak with the owner and disclose information to the owner only it rubbed me off the wrong way and told him I just a renter bro have a nice day. This happened last year in June of 2023 (two guys one black and one maybe Hispanic) then this year same thing was about to happen I recognized the company name and think it was same Hispanic guy knocking on my door, he said "Is this the singh residence" so I told him the same story of being a renter. read more

I will start off by saying that when I saw that Sunrun was associated with Costco, I felt like they would be my one stop shop for solar on my home. And now I am left puzzled as to why Costco would contract out with such a terrible company. My experience started with a call to do an intake that ended up getting disconnected. 30 min of time then no one called me back. I called later only to go through the same thing again. I was transferred over to a rep to discuss my project named Christ Laguerre who spent over 2 hours "gathering information" and sharing me on a proposal. Basically, the only agenda on this reps mind was getting me to lease solar which I wasn't interested in. He glossed over all my ownership questions and said we would discuss after an on site visit. I had to reschedule this given my calendar and he became incredible unresponsive. A day before he acknowledged via email that he was working on a reschedule but the day of, I have someone show up anyway despite my not being home. He has failed to follow up on any questions. Needless to say, I will not be moving forward. Beware of this companies shady practices that try to lock you in to a 25 year lease that ends up making the costs of solar OVER 4 times what you would pay to own. I had sunrun installed 2 years ago. The installation was supposed to take a half a day but took 2 days. The crew left our yard a mess both days and left their fast for bags and drinks on a piece of furniture in my garage. I wish I could say the problems stopped there. My roof leaks every time it rains. I have had someone out twice to try to fix it but here it is, leaking again. When one technician came out they said our battery isn't even installed correctly. No one has come back out to look at it. I regret installing sunrun. When people ask if I recommend solar I say yes but don't recommend sunrun at all. read more

JUST DON'T. Im putting this review on EVERY sunrun yelp review. For pictures go here https://www.yelp.com/biz/sunrun-san-jose-7 Sunrun took over Vivint.  They're just as stupid.  Besides that my true up bill is over $1000 a year -  (calculating everything I pay to PGE -  SUNRUN - and Vivint - yes, somehow still being charged by Vivint -  I am paying over $450 a month for Electricity) they are just as dumb. I have my account set on autopay so I never check it.  I finally decided to review everything since my last true up was $1230.00 and saw that I was being charged $5 a month from Vivint for fees since I "am not set up with ACH autopay" even though that money is being taken by ACH withdrawal from my checking account!!! So I contact them and I explain it so many ways that I've run out of ways to say it clearly.  They just keep repeating themselves stating that "the customer" set up payment with a credit card on December 29, 2021.  Hmmm.  I never set anything up with them -  I've always been set up through Vivint with autopay.  One lady even told me that when the information was migrated over it was listed as coming from a credit card.  I said - ok well, its my checking account.  Not a credit card.  And for some reason they're morons and cannot understand.   This money would show on my credit card statement if it were set up with my credit card.  You normal people understand this, right?  But it is being withdrawn from my checking account, like it's supposed to.   It's driving me nuts.  I don't know if they're really that dumb or they're effing with me.  They won't take responsibility for it and just keep saying that "a customer" set this up.  Oh - and that if I don't want to be charged fees, I need to manage my account and add it to autopay. I went and did this anyway because they're dumb.   I think any child would deduce that the problem happened when migrating client information over into their system.  But they can't even fathom that.   Anyway - so they only owe me like $100 and they refuse to pay it or take responsibility.  One lady said there is no way they can refund that money because of the way I set it up (???!!!) but she can give me a $50 credit for being a customer.  NOT BECAUSE THEY WRONGLY CHARGED ME!!!  wth. But ya - don't lease. Just buy your panels. Go with a better company. stay far away from Sunrun and Vivint. I've had to tell my neighbors that were almost convinced - not to do it. The sales people lie through their teeth to get you to sign because there are no consequences. They can tell you ANYTHING. but the contract you sign will be very different. EDIT: I know this review is already WAAAAY too long - but I had to just post this. Just to show you how dumb they are there. They sent me an email to request my pge bills (12 consecutive ones) yesterday (November 2). And then sent another email today (Nov. 3) saying they're closing the case due to my non response within 3 business days. wow read more

Avoid The solar panel and service were fantastic until the company sold to SUNRUN. Now it's all run around customer service, they is zero communication within the company, so you start over with call or service appt you have to make. They are dishonest, tested our system, working at 100% capacity according to them. Wrong, hasn't worked for almost year, they admitted to knowing, that's why they were pushing us to upgrade. We only found out when we received our over $4000 pg&e bill, but SUNRUN was still billing us for usage, no idea how they calculated if panels aren't working?!? They have different people calling to set up appts, while techs were at our house, they call daily/email daily. It's like groundhog with this company. One of the worst companies I have had the displeasure to work with. If you are looking to save money and energy keep looking. This company is a nightmare. read more

Literally the WORST company to work with. We had them remove the panels and it took 20+ attorney hours to get it done. Do not buy a battery - Sunrun and PGE have a deal that won't let you use it for 8 MONTHS of the year, so it's pretty useless. To deal with Sunrun to remove/reinstall solar panels was TOTALLY a nightmare. First: that process took several months to happen. Now, they didn't return phone calls. They didn't show up when they had promised. They left pile of used materials in our backyard. They damaged our rain gutter and promised to fix but nobody contacted us. Worst yet: it has been 20+ days after they finally reinstalled the panels but still nobody comes over to turn the electricity on! My husband has been making 3~5 phone calls everyday to the company asking for turning on the electricity. All the phone calls went to a foreign country and the person in charge (Curtis) has not called us back. Turned out my system was also broken the entire time, and when they tested it they found one of their parts was defective. They finally got a real customer service person involved (there are technical and non-technical ones), fixed the broken component, and addressed my original request - all five months after my first call. I think this all happened because of this review, and me prepping to take them to arbitration (yes, spineless as they are, they have all customers sign a binding arbitration agreement). They also agreed to give me 5 free months, to compensate for the five months my system sat broken. Still, use somebody - anybody - else. read more
