Unfortunately, due to other other layers of flooring below not being removed, and the top layer not secured to the sub floor the minor damage was unavoidable. Just my two cents, I called SM about two weeks ago, They gal said "Alex" was on vacation and may not hear back from him until Thursday (last) when he gets back, ok. So now it is Thursday, I get a call from what looked like a # from SM, Oh and no Vmail message was left.? (strange) ok, but I call back, left a message for "Alex" to let him know I called him back from a missed call. So friday rolls by and then now today is monday.. no call back to me since that Thursday when I called "Alex" back..., smh, so time to contact another company, I mean based on this response like this what can I expect if I work with them is what I was left with? Again, just an FYI to my situation, so maybe my project was to small for them to handle but then, a call back to me would have clarified that, wouldnt it? read more

Hard pass. Had them do a diagnostic for $99 on HVAC system since a/c wasn't working for. They did come on time and all while letting us know the issues. However, the quote they provided to fix the issue was insane. I was very skeptical that the repairs cost even close to that much so I went and got a 2nd opinion...which ended up being less than a 1/3 of what Superior quoted. I don't want to go into too much details but I always recommend getting a 2nd opinion. What Superior quoted was not even close to market rate, it was way inflated. read more

After moving into our house, we quickly realized that our heating system worked very poorly in many parts of our house, with little to no airflow. It became apparent to use that we needed a full update and revamp of our system. The job called for replacing basically all of our ductwork, installing air conditioning, replacing an old furnace, and putting in a three zone system to allow for greater efficiency. We got several bids for the job, and despite the fact that Superior was located in Livermore (and we're in Redwood City), we went with them as they had done work for my family before and gave a very competitive estimate and timeline. They handled the permitting, Title 24 process, the inspections, and we were happy with our ability to communicate with them. The work itself took 5 full days, and they did a good job cleaning up, treated our house with care, and generally gave us a positive experience. With the heat we've experienced lately, having a well functioning HVAC system is a great investment and a real lifesaver. Would highly recommend Superior Mechanical! read more

They replace filters and make sure everything is working properly. More important, I get priority with urgent issues since I'm a VIP client. I have referred Superior to my friends many times, from service and repairs to AC unit replacement, and they are all very happy! Even though they're in Livermore, I've had Dano at Superior come to Oakland to replace several wall gravity heaters as well as a forced air unit. It's never been a problem to schedule. They've also installed dryer duct booster fans (Tjernlund). Price is always very competitive, they pull permits and are consistently communicative. I highly recommend you give them a shot. read more

They came out once to diagnose the heater exchange was needed to be replaced, ordered it and then again to replace it. They were on time, replaced it in an efficient manner, & sent the same technician because he was already familiar with the situation. (He stressed the importance of cleaning the furnace filter with a hose once every 3M & hold it up to the sunlight to ensure its cleanliness. No one has ever told me that and I have put it on my calendar to do so.) BTW, they are authorized to perform warranty repairs for Goodman furnaces. I would definitely use them again. read more

5+ Stars!!! Ross Felkins and Brandon Spriggs just finished replacing my Amana heating and air conditioning system. The compressor went out on my old one and they took it out and replaced it with a newer, upgraded model! They did a fantastic job inside and outside my home. They are very qualified technicians and took extra care working in my rather elaborate Colonial Revival home, built in 1897--including their building a lattice structure to nicely cover the AC unit that is located in my garden--it's quiet and hardly noticeable now. I highly recommend Ross and Brandon and Superior Mechanical Services! I have been doing business with this company--via an annual maintenance contract--since the major remodel was completed in 2004. Milton and Caesar were amazing installing a whole new air and heat system. they were very considerate with working around kids and pets. They were always checking in and updating me on their progress, asking if I had questions. They always stuck to their times they said they would there and always notified me when leaving for parts or lunch. I am amazed what a fantastic job Superior did today. Robert Richards arrived at 8:30 a.m and worked without any break until 3:30 pm. He replaced my water heater in the garage and my gas shut off valve behind my stove. He was meticulous in his work. Skilled and very professional. Did not leave behind any debris and cleaned up everything in his path. Very informative. Explained to me what he was doing, why, how it works, and what to do in an emergency situation. Superior diagnosed a bad furnace gas valve and charged $99 for the diagnosis and wanted over $700 for the repair. We got a second opinion, which cost $70, and the second opinion guy even cleaned the sensor which got the furnace gas valve working again at no extra charge. I told Superior about this and they refunded our $99 and apologized. Whether you hide or deny an error, or own up to it and make amends, is to me more important than whether you have technical skill. 2 stars for diagnostic abilities and cost, 5 stars for owning the mistake and making amends. That's 3.5 stars average, but I give slightly more weight to the latter factor, therefore rounding up to 4 stars. read more

Their name says it all: SUPERIOR. My 32-year-old air conditioning compressor died at the start of a heat wave in June. I contacted 13 vendors to get quotations to replace the entire HVAC system (furnace, air conditioner, and evaporator coil). Some vendors didn't return messages left on their answering machine. Some were so backlogged that the earliest they could install a new system would be August. In the end, I got quotations from three vendors and awarded the contract to Superior. Their price was competitive, and their 10-year labor warranty was far better than competitor's warranties of 1 to 3 years. Working with Superior was a pleasure. The entire process, from the initial quotation visit by Alex Whitlock, through completion of the installation by Pablo and Mike, was very professional. Alex was the only vendor to complete a load calculation using the Air Conditioning Contractors of America's "Manual J" to size the equipment. Other vendors asked me what size equipment they should quote. Isn't that what they're supposed to determine? The proposal Alex presented was typewritten and thorough, with a full description of the equipment, scope of work, and pricing. I asked some clarifying questions about the proposal, and Alex revised the document and sent me a new version promptly. The installation was completed in two days, and Pablo and Mike were punctual, professional, and "neat and tidy". The installation workmanship is first-rate, and the equipment is working perfectly. Superior is a local, family-run company in business since 1948. Their employees are members of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 342 and Alex said some employees have worked for Superior for many years. Contrast this with other HVAC companies whose employees aren't union members, and who work on a commission basis. If you want to do business with a company with professionalism and integrity, look no further than Superior. read more

Ryan Houts, a tall 24-year old energetic repairman came over to fix our noisy furnace free of charge since they had been out here working on it in October and we just recently noticed a noise under certain conditions. He cheerfully spent maybe a half an hour diagnosing and fixing the problem. The previous repairman, Mike, also did a super job so it was no fault of his that we didn't catch the noise until later. I highly recommend the company--we have a 38-year old furnace that still works fine mainly because we've had yearly maintenance calls from them, at our request, to make sure everything was safe and working properly. I am extremely upset with how they do their appointment scheduling. I work fulltime so when I set a date and time I expect them to be arriving as so. This company scheduled me for today and was very adamant about me being at my house super early. Time passed and no one ever showed. I called and the receptionist stated that the worker was on another job site. And that they would give me a call to tell me when he would be done. But not a definite time. Wtf? I told her no, and she stated I could reschedule. So I asked if I could reschedule for next Friday, then she goes... Oh, well actually we wouldn't know if we have availability till next week, so we're going to just call you to see when your available next week... like that sounds promising. Mind you.. I've been without a heater going on a month and a half now, because they also failed to report back to my landlord the details of my heater issue. So finally after all this time of me being out of your mind cold for the past month, I was really looking forward to getting it finally fixed. read more

I would call someone else. They installed new AC for me and subsequently got busted for working without a permit. Then they billed me for maintenance when they never showed up. After a couple heated phone calls they got the message and fired themselves. Good riddance! read more

I used home advisor to get a lot of quotes but these guys came in with the best price for the system that I was looking for. I had a furnace and air conditioner installed. The guys that came to do the job were friendly and polite. They were able to work with me on an alternative drain for the over flow for the coils. While the work was being done they kept the area clean and always paid attention to where my kids were for safety reasons. They used shoe covers when they were not walking around on the drop cloth.
