I had a shower nozzle that was broken and my wife started using pliers to turn on and off. The next morning I saw the garage was flooded and a wet spot on the ceiling. I immediately turned off the water main, and did a yelp search. I gave them a call and sent pictures. I had an appointment for 12-2 window. They showed just before 12. Indeed, my shower parts needed replacing but they also determined that the leaking from the ceiling in the garage was from a water heater pipe spraying water on the ceiling making it look like that. They fixed the shower situation, replaced my old water heater on the spot. The price was very reasonable, i didn't want to buy into a water heater plan, just give me close to whatever I had. Had an excellent experience with Vlad and his business partner from Just Plumbing Handyman! Long and short is I was dealing with a drop in water pressure house-wide after installing a tankless water heater. Difficult to have two showers running, etc. The team was able to patiently explain their thoughts on what the causes were and also what the limits were that they needed to work with. In the end, they gave me options of work that they would recommend and I felt no pressure to do all or even any of them. I chose to do it all bc I understood the pros/cons/limits of each of the recommended work proposed. Pricing was fair, scheduling was quick (just two days out), and the job was executed professionally (on time, cleaned up the impacted area, etc). Groundhog Day. I swear I just had a similar issue a few years ago. I walk into the garage and I'm greeted with a pinhole leak in my 5/8" copper hot water pipe that's attached to my recirculation pump. Arrg!! There goes my morning run on a weekday. I turn off the water. Seems like I just did this... I made phone calls to all my past plumbers. All three--no one is available. Dang it! I call Just Plumbing Handyman and Vlad answers the phone, says he can be here in 30 min - he's here in 15! He examines the problem and gives me a quote of $250, I say it's too much, but he explains what he's going to do. After authorization, he removed the bad piece, showed me the problem and replaced it with a double-wall thickness. Hopefully it'll last longer than the previous pipe, type M, which was thinner than the new one - type L. Vlad's prices are not low, but he is fast, and provides quality work. I'd hire him to do the same work again. So, I look at my previous review on this topic. It's only been three years since Barnett Pluming took care of this. Last time it was a pipe above the recirculation pump. This time it's below. Dang it. If you have a similar leak, make sure the plumber uses type L tubing as the wall thickness is greater, and will hold up better to the water scrubbing wear to the pipe. Have been searching and asking for quotes on Yelp and Thumbtack. We found him and set up a 1.5 hr. window for him to do a free visit. He came on time, his rate was at or lower than market price based on the other quotes I received, and I was happy with his workmanship and straightforward statements - he told us directly what he thought and didn't try to act like a salesman or a smooth talker, which we preferred. My pipe had a leak behind the wall; he cut open the wall, and fixed the leaking elbow, which he believed was likely caused by solder paste that the installer didn't wipe off completely like he was supposed to after the job had been finished, which is highly corrosive and eats away slowly at the metal until there's a leak. It seems after the leak, the water soaked the insulation and induced corrosion higher up the pipe as you see in the picture. He provides a 1 year warranty, and gave a recommendation to create a contamination area using a plastic sheet around the hole, the window, and the fan to push the moldy air out the window and dry out the wall for a couple of weeks, as well as to spray it with mold killer and let it dry out before patching it up. He stated he doesn't do wall patching and doesn't give recommendations for a contractor since he can't control their quality or pricing and doesn't want it to reflect on himself as a quality handyman with good prices. Total cost for the job was $300. I would definitely call him again for a future job, and would recommend him to others! read more
