DO NOT USE SUNRUN! Sunrun is one of the worst companies I have dealt with. I absolutely regret getting solar panels from Sunrun. Drew Freeman was our salesperson. He seemed like a nice guy, but after they sign you up, the company could not care less about their customers. We had issues with our lights flickering about 6-8 weeks after our panels were installed. At first, we did not suspect the solar panels because the flickering started happening weeks after the panels were installed. It turns out the switch to solar did not happen right away (which we understand is normal since PG&E has to approve the switch over). Thinking the problem was with our wiring, we hired an electrician -- we actually hired a few different electricians. The third electrician said the issue might be with the solar setup. He said he wasn't sure because he is not an expert in solar. He said something about the number of volts or watts (I can't remember which) going into the subpanel was not the correct amount - essentially, it wasn't enough. When we tried to have a tech come out, we were told it would be TWO months before we could get on the schedule. WHAT? Seriously? We got on the schedule. My husband took the day, and the tech didn't show up. No call or text. It was a big waste of time. A month later, when someone finally came out, they discovered that what was installed was indeed incorrect. But of course, they didn't have the correct part on their truck. It took a month to get someone else out. And guess what, we are still having issues. read more

I just had a solar PV system installed at my home by Sunrun. Overall it seems to be a bargain basement system which does not function like a high performance system. They use really low-quality Chinese panels which are at the bottom of the overall performance curve. Their online App is really crappy and does NOT provide any REAL-TIME power production information or details how each panel in the array is performing. They had promised me that the system would perform like a micro-inverter based system and would be able to view the performance real-time and correct issues such as partial shading and identify defective or low-performing panels. They just seem to be in the business of raking in the money and make you sign up for a service contract for a system that should not need any ongoing maintenance, since there are NO moving parts. The have a central inverter in their configuration and supposedly have "power optimizers" which optimize the production of the panel array. read more

TL;DR: Stay away. They are atrocious. I had solar system installed onto my house in 2014. Sunrun has inherited this project after they bought out the previous installer. There were roof leaks from the first day of installation and another one two years later. The first two times they were relatively fast to respond. On the third time in year 4, they were weeks out while it was pouring water into my living room. I fixed the problem with a different roofer for which they reimbursed me in exchange for a release letter. Now in year 7, the whole roof needs to be replaced because the original installation was so bad. Turns out they are not even supposed to do the type of install they did onto my type of roof. The release letter from year 3 absolves them apparently (nice lawyering there), and I am saddled with $70k in roofing bills that they refuse to cover. They still want to put the panels back on and refuse to redesign the system or even warranty their reinstall so that I am not saddled with another $70k in 5 years. At one point, on a recorded call, they agreed to walk away from my project and close the account. Some days later, I get a call stating they are walking it all back, and I am still responsible for everything. Even when pointing out to what they agreed on a recording, they still did not care and wanted to "reset expectations" whatever that means. Their response to any email or call takes days or weeks. Absolutely atrocious pace. Been dealing with this nightmare since February 2021, and still nowhere close to being done. Stay away from these people like the plague they are. I have had my system for over (10) years and had it removed for a roof install. Four weeks later and it has still not be re-installed. They are still billing me monthly. I also appreciate Ajay Pal Singh's efforts which made the key difference. There was a period with lapses in communication due to the departure of my salesperson. The worst company experience ever!! Vivant merged with Sunrun. Do not do business with them. Very unprofessional! While they were installing the solar panels on the roof, one of the workers dropped a metal pipe on my car causing damages to the car doors and the window. (Newly purchased to me) None of the employees said anything to me. I didn't notice until a day later and called them to file a claim. They admitted fault and said they will be paying for the damages. It's been over 2 months since they have said they will send me the check and they keep giving me every excuse in the book. I have called and emailed them every week and no one can provide me a definite answer on when I will get paid. My representative is always on lunch, out of office, phone is broken, or saying money is being sent out this Friday. Other representatives are clueless and are of no help. Really?! Their excuse for lack of contact was their phone was broken. That's how bad their service is. No wonder they have such terrible reviews. Any one looking to do business with them should look at other companies. This has been a nightmare. I have no idea if I'm ever going to get paid for the damages they inflicted to my car. This company SUCKS! I am sorry that I ever got involved with such a horrible excuse for a solar company. They came out to change the inverters on my system 3 weeks ago today (I had 38 panels on my roof) and 2/3's of the panels are still in my courtyard.st three weeks I keep getting shoved off for another week and another week and now until the end of July. No one seems top care that I am missing the longest most productive days of the year. The customer is not first in this company. Its all about heir investors and the dollar. I inherited this system when I bought the house. It has always underproduced even after I cut down trees at their suggestions and even added an additional system that they put in and for which I pay. They've not responded to any of my calls for two years. When finally I was able to get hold of someone to help me, they admitted that their system was underproducing and offered a renegotiation of the contract but the new contract showed no change in what I owed and when I asked them to remove the system that they admitted was not designed properly they declined. Hello I did not receive solar system through Sunrun. Sunrun took over my contract about 4 years ago. I have two systems on my home and garage . Now Sunrun uses Spruce to do the repairs. So two years ago I was having a problem with the garage. A riso low with a red light showing. So the repair was done by replacing the invertor. But the problem remained. So a year later Spruce sent out a company to check over the whole system they found burn holes through the backside of most of the panels. And now a year later the repairs have still not been done. Evey time I call Sunrun I get a new person on my case I think I am on number 5 now. I never get a call back or update by email from Sunrun. My last call 6 days ago. It's been almost a year David Clark-Riddell was our contact & he was great.planning & install was great the ISSUE I had is I didn't want a sub contractor to do any part of my job since it always goes bad & it did.the electrician they hired are from what I saw young kids going from job to job they started at 7am finished around 8pm idk if they had a license or used the companies, cheaper labor most places do that they also used cheap Eletrical panel for underground work (inspectors words)& FUCKED up my HVAC UNIT.the inspector told him to account for the hvac which needs more power.been having issues ever since.been at my house 7 years no issues at till then.every time I bring it up to Sunrun they try to resolve it & the electricians have all these excuses.they could have brought up any of these issues before & when they installed the panel.they always have a excuse why it's not their fault.even when I complained before the Sunrun rep who hired them defended them Instead of seeing what the issue was.they are out of Salinas so Idk she knew them & that's why she defended them or it's not the 1st time this crap happen.I like the Sunrun system got it thru Costco but they should vet their sub contractors better & have standards.I waited this long to review since I didn't want to make a review of the 1st month or so.I did it now because once again my ac unit is having problems Again & guess what it's electrical again.I wonder why.BEWARE if I known what I know now I would have went with another company or had stopped the work & asked for someone else.it's a big company so I don't know why they would hire a 1 star outfit to handle their jobs. SunRun contract states that leases can be bought out at FMV. I tried to get a quote and compared to brand new systems from installers in the Bay Area and found SunRun said FMV of my 12 year old out of warranty system was almost double the value of a brand new high efficiency system. When further discussion I found SunRun falsely claims they hire an independent appraiser and instead they run a software program that generates a number and clearly has nothing to do with market value. They then send your case to an call center contractor who refuses to state anything other than that the purchase price and will not refer to any supervisor for clarification. read more

My solar that quit working on 2/19 was finally repaired on 5/19. 3 months to diagnose and fix a new 8 panel system. What finally got someone's attention was my bad Yelp review. I was assigned to specialist who was supposed to be my point of contact. We set up a time for her to call me and that day came and went without a phone call. I then got passed off to someone else. It took several visits with techs showing up about every other week. At one point a single tech came out and he said that he needed another tech but the dispatch system assigned him twice to my house for the same day. I think their dispatch/service system could use some software tweeks if it allows the same person to be assigned twice to the same address for the same day and time. I've yet to receive any info on why my system quit working, what was done to fix it, and why it took so long. Communication is not Sunrun's forte. During one of their tech visits their truck got stuck in my driveway. They used my floor jack to lift the truck and get it moving. My floor jack was damaged during the process and I was told it would be replaced. That was well over a month ago and I've yet to receive a replacement for my floor jack. One of Sunrun's selling points is that they are the only solar company on the stock exchange. Well there are cell phone and cable companies on the stock exchange and they also have a bad reputation for service and customer neglect. I would put Sunrun's customer service on par with the cable and cell phone operators. I regret ever calling them for my solar. read more

The SunRun sales and install staff were great, and we thought we were happy with the $38,000 system that we paid cash for. But. But a power surge killed our "inverter" and SunRun promised a replacement six weeks ago. Six weeks! When we call the sales line, someone answers right away. But when we call the service line, the hold time is more than an HOUR! And then they say they'll have someone call us back and then they don't call back. We've tried twice over a two week period. Do not - under any circumstances - hire this company. We signed our contract June 2021 and our system has not been completed (June 2022.) At installation it was discovered the LG batteries could not power our system. Installers missed the clearly labeled and installed conduit and installed another. Later and against my wishes they installed two Tesla batteries outside of our garage (not inside the garage.) Due to local code, the batteries (because they were installed outside) needed bollards, so our inspection failed. That was several months ago. In April a technician came by and said it would be no problem to put the batteries inside and to redo the conduit, and yet - nothing. We missed last year's fire season and the 2021 tax incentive. It appears we will miss the 2022 fire season and possibly the 2022 incentive. Oh, and we have already paid $18K. We have called, emailed, and worked with three of their upper tier customer service reps. (I have been informed at least 30 times that they are "discussing" our account.) We had no choice and hired a lawyer. Don't put yourself through what we have gone through, hire ANY other solar company. read more

One star is to much to give this company. My husband and I have sunrun at all our residential homes. We get a monthly invoice that emcompasses all of our properties. The bill is paid timely ever month. We have all the records to prove that the invoices have been paid monthly. Sept 2020 we did not get an invoice, we called to find out where the invoice went and got transferred to collections and were told we owed $500. When we asked what month and which location they screamed at us and hung up! We have had to hire an attorney to help us get answers and an invoice so we can pay Sept and Oct Its so sad that as company this big cannot get their billing and accounts receivables correct. The Good: Good people. Straight ahead. Helpful. Conscientious. Good sales rep. No obvious installation goof-ups. No horror stories. All pretty straight forward. Financing was smooth. Sunrun does 95% of the financing interface for you. I think I interfaced with Financing in the form of 1 web page, 1 time, click here, finished. That's not to say you don't have to have your docs in order, oh yes, you do. But if you have decent credit you will spend absolutely no time following up with underwriting. Post installation follow-up was great. Sunrun wants to make abundantly clear to their customers that they are going to be there for you over the long haul. So they put sufficient manpower into making sure customers feel taken care. The Bad: Ok, not so bad if you're ready for it.... Be prepared to docusign several documents, 5 times over, because their various software platforms apparently don't interface well with one another. So, Let's just say, the signing process is high-maintenance, which is not so bad for me because I'm hi-maintenance myself so I have no right to complain. Also, I have no record of what I signed. I signed so many times I completely lost track. I could have signed the Declaration of Independence for all I know. Now I have to get Sunrun to send me copies. Good thing I trust them. The mysunrun app is not so amazing. It seems like every time you move to a new screen, the app downloads new data from the inverter even if not prompted. This causes an annoying delay while the app churns. Not very tech-savvy. The Ugly: The panels they installed are butt ugly--dozens of exposed brackets around the edges of the glass. You're used to seeing sleek blue or black panels on the roofs as you drive through your leafy neighborhood? Not my panels! Butt ugly is a compliment! They would have been OK on most 2 storey houses, or on the back facing parts of the roof, but not facing the street. I fault the sales rep, who steered me towards this brand knowing that they would be facing the street the rep should have taken into consideration curb appeal and recommended sleek-looking panels. Solar was supposed to be turned on yesterday. PG&E says they still haven't heard a response from the deficiency letter sent DECEMBER. 8 months and counting we've been paying the finance company with NO SOLAR. Thanks Costco for recommending this AWFUL company. Failed inspection x2. Chronic unresponsiveness. Half a dozen deficiency letters from PG&E. WE'VE BEEN PAYING THE FINANCE COMPANY SINCE JUNE 2021 AND OUR SOLAR STILL ISN'T ON. No one will help us. We feel like we're being scammed. read more

Sunrun was very quick to sell and nowhere around to support problems. They had an issue with the system which caused the system to not work for two months (bug in their system). I noticed when my PG&E bill was very high and I noticed I went from a +$30 true up to about a -$650 true up. When I asked how they would support their problems, they kindly told me they don't have a performance guarantee, so they would not help. read more

We purchased a system in December, it was installed in January, activated 2/28/22 and went online and still not producing anything and we're already at the end of March. Getting a hold of a person who can help you is damn near impossible. I called the number chat support provided and finally gave up after being on hold 1.5 hours and never getting to speak to a person. Once they get paid, they don't care about their customers even the ones with systems that didn't even work since day 1. Can't believe we spent $25k on a lemon. Nobody seems to care and they keep giving me the run around telling me to "just wait longer" for someone to call me. They sent a Vivint tech out last week that swore our system was working and online. He said it just needed an update...then left and surely enough, it's still not working. Our 5.6kw system has only produced 9 kwh in one whole month (less than half what it should in one day). Totally frustrated and clearly, our system is NOT working. I finally spoke to someone who said you might need a new inverter, but don't quote him since he's not a tech. Can someone just get out and fix my system? We thought we'd get better service going with a bigger company, but boy were we wrong. Run for the hills and hire the other guys...any other guys.
