My system has not worked correctly. They require a week diagnostic time time to evaluate the system at the end of the evaluation period, It was determined a technician would needed. The soon as a technician could come out would be one month. I have leased my solar through SunRun and apparently they want you to pay on time while not providing the service you pay for. I highly recommend you go with a different company. read more

Worst experience ever, they were behind me until we signed the agreement, but I am still on hold for the installation. I've tried to reach out to my representative and the sales manager multiple times, but they almost never respond, and the once or twice when they did respond there is no help provided. Very unprofessional and a waste of time. Do not fall in the trap read more

After 6 years leasing Solar with SunRun and then the inverter suddenly dead. Here is come to crazy part. SunRun doesn't do services. BrightOps which third party doing service.. It took total a month and half to come after couple appointments attempted and now It's still NOT working. A third schedule in September 2025. I'm sick and tired with SunRun . Meantime billing continues asking for payments and not even mention about power loss or at least refund some of power not producing. For anyone out there who want Solar should consider some others company can do better jobs than SunRun.. read more

I posted the below review a couple of weeks ago when the power went out and our system did not back up the way it was designed. Well, I reached out to them to identify their procedure for termination of the lease due to the failure of SunRun to live up to its contractual obligations. Their response, "Our contracts have no early termination clause." When I asked the follow up question of, "So, what you're saying is that I'll have to go through legal channels." The response I received was a very curt, "Yep, that's right." The truly amazing thing is that this guy lied. Their contract does have a clause for termination in the event of a material failure...which we have demonstrated, and then some. So, at the end of the day, I'll simply say this. If you are going to install solar, GO WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN SUNRUN. They are horrible and do not live up to their contracts. As for me, I'll just have to see them in court. I updated this review because our power is out again today and we have ZERO power. See the original review below. I'm absolutely exhausted with these folks. We've been a customer of theirs for several years now, and the only reason we installed solar was to have redundancy during power outages. Since we live on the coast, we get hit by them A LOT!!! But, Sun Run's installation of our system is so bad, that it has yet to provide us power when the power goes out. You read that right. In the several years since installation, every time the power goes out, our system doesn't operate. I escalated to their CEO two years ago, and they connected us with an amazing advanced resolution team, but she's in Tennessee and has to take the word of the techs at face value. It seems that the tech they keep sending doesn't seem to know his head from a hole in the wall. He shows up, calls someone else and they tell him what to look at. Anyway, a storm just knocked our power out again and no system. We've decided that we are going to contact an attorney to help us navigate our options as we are no longer willing to accept their substandard performance. If you are looking at SunRun for your solar needs, STOP. Look at a different company, SunRun is a ripoff! read more

Nothing can really improve with this company. Their goal is to sign you up get you to commit to the long term plan and it's really up to you to keep tabs of how the system is running. If your system was not performing for a certain amount of time and your PG&E bill is higher than normal? Then your SOL I'm trying to get a credit. I went through a whole month of Oct where the system was not performing and our PG&E bill reflected the offset that we had to pay. Avoid these guys like the plague read more

SunRun says they will guarantee system performance to be 90%. I almost signed a contract with them last month, until I found that they do not really mean it. The battery backup is guaranteed to work only 10 years (they never commit to 25 years). And they say they guarantee the performance to be only 70% (not 90% as they claim). And after 10 years no guarantees at all. They reserve the right to refuse battery backup performance guarantee. I have it in writing from their salesperson. Bottom line: The complete system guarantee in only for 10 years. I didn't sign the contract. read more

I have clearly posted 'No Soliciting' and 'No Trespassing' signs on my property, yet a representative from Sunrun came to my door. While I understand they are doing their job, I found it frustrating that my posted signs were ignored. Before working with this company, I suggest reading their BBB and Yelp reviews. There are some mixed experiences shared there that might be helpful for making an informed decision if you decide to work with them. I hope the company reminds their representatives to respect homeowners' preferences. read more

Scotts Valley, CA I usually don't write a review of service, mainly because I receive expected service or bad service in which I never want to continue the negativity. However, we recently had the Sunrun system setup for our home and I have to leave this review. We did not receive service that "went the extra mile" predictable of a great sales person, but I witnessed service that was beyond anything I have ever experienced in my 60 years. The base of this amazing care was in Representative Ro Pereiro. She is a gold star in humanity! But the service didn't stop there. The entire crew that showed up to install the equipment was above and beyond engaging and respectful. The work was done quickly, professionally, and cleanly. These people made me want to be a better person. I pray the equipment and service measures up to the integrity of the people representing it. Thank you, Sunrun, for hiring superstars. And a million thank you's to Ro for being a champion. Dr. Vickie Sanderson read more

Two years after signing the contracts, the system is now finally up and running. A couple of weeks ago we finally resolved the dispute over how much to pay them, given that it was not producing for a year while they tried to get extra money out of me and I had to pay for legal advice in order to get them to do the job at all. SO, I'd give them a negative star rating, were it possible, but when the smoke cleared, I was not out any money. Just a lot (** LOT **) of grief and wasted time. read more

First of all, let me say I have 9 units with Sunrun. You'd think they'd treat loyal customers better, but outside of Jackie, my sales rep, the company support is a disjointed, inept, and not very well trained. Everytime I have an experience with their support team, I question why I've done so much business with them. Their systems break often (I've had 3 inverters replaced already), and getting people to go out to check it out is a nightmare. The average downtime whenever something breaks is 2 months, which is extremely frustrating given we own most of our units, so it's just money coming out of our pocket. I highly recommend staying away from Sunrun. You're better off with any other provider. read more

Ok, UPDATE! Once the project managers got ahold of the process, everything went exceedingly well. Yes there were delays on delays But the majority of those I must say were in the City of Sunnyvale wheelhouse. What would pass in San Jose in a matter for minutes took several days to comply in Sunnyvale, what with painting all the conduit on the roof and on the side of the house and running extra grounding wires? Anyway the quality of the work is EXCELLENT, everything is tight and tidy, the system came right up and the Tesla PowerWall app let's me see the solar panels powering my house and charging the PowerWall 3. I am very satisfied with the end product and when SunRun gets their staff levels up to the demand, I would highly recommend them as a service entity. People and technical expertise were never the problem, just overcommitment. I'm a happy camper! read more

We got Sunrun promotion in local Costco, as we were looking into solar system. When we requested quote, it was significantly higher than other quotes we got. We asked why Sunrun was worth the price difference. But we didn't get any meaningful answers other than they were the biggest players in the field and other installers were using cheaper parts and substandard labor. We told them we were not interested in going with them because their price is not competitively. Somehow the message was not well received and I kept getting sales calls from Sunrun multiple times a day. On top of that, they can appear with different caller IDs, all asking to call back at 844-816-5068. So and so I have to silence all unknown incoming calls. Seams to me that if they have an army of telemarketers and multiple layers of corporate managers to feed. We went with a local installer that has been around the business for quite a while. read more

If I could give Negative stars, I would give Sunrun a negative 72 stars. They are the WORST. Customer service is a joke and ineffective. Their system flags that there is a problem with my system. I call and schedule an appointment for the technician to come and fix it. They DON'T show up! I call customer service to find out where the technician is and I am put on hold and the representative NEVER comes back on the line. The hold time ended after 30 minutes and asked me to leave a message. I called back the next day and again, no resolution. RUN AWAY from this company!!! read more

I would give Sunrun negative stars if I could. We had a leak in our ceiling and we called our homeowners insurance. They came out and inspected the leak and said that the solar panels were installed incorrectly hence the leak. The case manager who was put on the case never communicated with us. We got another case manager who also never responded. We spent many hours talking to management who said there is nothing we can do about it because your warranty is up. However we are paying a monthly lease and they installed the panels incorrectly they should take some responsibility. I have filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, the attorney generals office and have reach out to local news like 7 on your side to hopefully hold them accountable to fix the faulty installation and leak. DO NOT USE SUNRUN. It's a FRAUD! They even said they are the biggest solar company in the nation and don't care if we stop using them. The WORST customer service. read more

My system did not produce as promised. Sunrun refused to compensate as contract stated. They took a year to check me system while it did not produce one quarter of the time due to a faulty system board. Sunrun kept saying the system was producing and would update within 3 days. WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT in the industry! I've had a "System Underperforming" ticket opened since the end of Dec. 2024; Technician visits Jan. 6th and determines root cause: a part is needed to be replaced. Technician was great and said the part usually takes 7-14 days to arrive. I've called several times and have spoken to my case owner "Maria". I've asked to speak to an escalation manager and the request was ignored. I just spoke to "Maria" again and was told the part wasn't ordered until the end of January 2025 and the part has not arrived. I purchased this system and installed in Nov 2021. Since my system is underperforming I've paid PG&E more than $600.. the sole reason why I invested in solar was to avoid these payments. The Sales person and Field Engineers have been great but are way over stretched. The customer service and case owner are the worst I've ever experienced. Save yourself the aggravation and and invest your money in a solution with Tesla directly.. I am thisclose to replacing my solar panels and control system as I have two Tesla batteries. Not it's on to complain to the BBB.. How is Sunrun still in business??? read more

Can you leave a no star rating? Unethical sales and ops practices. They pushed paperwork to PG&E before design review and sign-off with me. Sales guy either playing naive or was naive about solar equipment and they sell medium grade products at premium prices - I cancelled them. Either way it was a painfully bad experience. Buyer beware!! As mentioned in a few reviews, RUN is in their name so take heed. read more

This review is based on a friend's proposal from Sunrun. I think what they proposed for her is borderline criminal. They proposed a PPA and suggested she could pre-pay for $24,000. This is extravagantly more expensive than actually buying the system outright. Also buying would allow her to reap significantly more electric savings than a PPA lease. They never suggested that buying would be much better value to her. The pitch with the lease is that you don't have to put any money down. But the fact is my friend could afford paying for the solar panels outright. Shop around folks! And stay away from Sunrun. There are many honest solar installers out there both local and national. For my own house, I got six bids. I went with an installer with final installation price of about $2.35 a watt. That's a great deal! Top notch equipment REC panels and Enphase micro inverters. read more

We consistently get solicitors from Sunrun who ignore our no soliciting signs. I had to make a custom sign just for them. One of the solicitors who wouldn't take no for an answer got angry and aggressive & I had to tell him to get the hell off my property. They always claim they're not solicitors and are with "the electric company", doing a switchover, that they have been signing up my neighbors (funny... in all these years of solicitations, none of my neighbors have solar yet). Unethical sales tactics, outright lying and it's obvious that they are being coached by the company to use these sales tactics because they all do it. I would love to have solar but not by signing up for a 25-30 yr contract for equipment I will never own after paying towards it for decades, for a contract that must transfer to any potential buyer of my house who will get wrangled into this commitment for equipment that will surely be obsolete 20 years from now (which means I may have a smaller pool of willing buyers), that I'm committed to it whether it works or not. I heavily researched these solar companies because I desperately wanted solar, and I read that they aggressively sell these contracts because they get money from the government rebates, often to elderly people who clearly will not live that many years but it's actually the property that is stuck with it & must be factored into the cost of buying/selling the home and that when there are problems with waiting to get it installed or serviced, they drag their feet and their customer service is horrible (just look at all of the reviews). I also read that they have sold to elderly people who had roofs that clearly didn't have adequate sun because they were shaded by taller adjacent buildings and that people had 2 electricity bills now and it was costing them more money rather than saving them money. A large percentage of reviews say that they are not getting the results they were promised and still having to rely on their regular electric company too much. I really can't emphasize enough about how often misrepresentation comes up in customer reviews and articles & that just makes me feel that they are unethical/ willing to say anything just to get you roped in to signing the contract and really don't care about providing a good product or good service. No thank you & stay the hell off my property!!!! read more

I understand you guys go door to door. When we open the door and say wassup. A good intro from your side is a must as your rep is the face of the company. I open the door ask the guy wass up, what are you here for. He said he wanted to speak with the owner. I am a pretty young homeowner, so I asked, may I know the reason for knocking on my door and what you are selling. The rep just wanted to speak with the owner and disclose information to the owner only it rubbed me off the wrong way and told him I just a renter bro have a nice day. This happened last year in June of 2023 (two guys one black and one maybe Hispanic) then this year same thing was about to happen I recognized the company name and think it was same Hispanic guy knocking on my door, he said "Is this the singh residence" so I told him the same story of being a renter. read more

Worst experience. They get to pick and choose which customers to follow up on. I guess businesses are in the mode of ghosting customers too lol After stinging me asking for months, they tell me they can't install on a 3 story home. Weird because I'm in a large housing development full of 3 story houses with solar panels. If it wasn't for the Costco deal, I would have gone with other Solar vendors months ago. Anyhow, I've gotten other bids and found that Sunrun was the most expensive for the same panels and Tesla powerwalls. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise they chose to flake on me. read more

Watch out for their misleading marketing for their no down payment solar lease, which is essential a SCAM! I bought a house with Sunrun lease and I cannot cancel them without paying them huge cancellation fee that is more expensive than purchasing a brand-new system! And the leasing contract repeatedly lies about their claim that they don't put a lien on the house, and according to the title company, the UCC (or whatever they call it) filed by them is essentially a lien, and no sale of the house can happen unless such lien is addressed. Don't do it! Just don't do it! We should have read the reviews before we went with them. They told us we needed to replace the roof (now I'm questioning if we even needed that) so they subcontracted the roof replacement. They sold us a "moss cleaning" for the roof and never did it. We fought with them for months. They said it was supposed to be the roofer and the roofer said it was supposed to be SunRun. Went back and forth and back and forth and never got resolved even though it was in our contract - they never fulfilled it. Even worse, the roof leaks really badly because the subcontractor messed up. Now there's a huge discolored spot on my ceiling and it's about to fall in. We went back and forth with SunRun for over a month and still it hasn't been fixed. The leak is just getting worse because it's been raining. My mom who is in her 70s sleeps below the leak (she listens to the water pour in all night) and has been so stressed about it that it sent her to the hospital yesterday with chest pains and high blood pressure. They tested her and said it was due to the stress. Even so every time we call SunRun they tell us someone will contact us in 48 hours and no one ever does. We've called them dozens and dozens of times. I'm now left with thousands of dollars of damage - all my insulation got wet, there's a huge part of the ceiling about to fall in. The customer service agents always just give us the run around. Nothing is ever done. It's simply horrible. They have been the worst company I've ever worked with in my entire life. Do NOT do it!!! I regret so so so so so so much hiring them. Instead of making my life better they've made it so much worse and they do not care about the customer. It's so bad. As with another commenter below, I am thinking about moving forward with a lawsuit as well. Such a headache that could've been avoided if all they did was just focus on customer experience/service instead of being shady and greedy. Edit: They just called and told us they would send someone out to investigate the issue. They literally JUST DID THAT. So we tell them - no, someone came and already investigated. There's a leak. There's notes in your system about it! We know that because other agents read back those notes to us! You don't need to investigate AGAIN!!! You just need to fix my leaking roof which your sub caused! And then they lie telling us the first investigator couldn't finish his job. Total lie. So we start the process over again. Meanwhile my roof has been leaking for many many days, and will get worse this week when it rains. So this really just means they'll never fix it. The level of incompetence and shadiness at this company doesn't stop. Just know that this is not a company that has your back, or that cares about you or your experience in the slightest. You're completely on your own after the sales people give you their pitch. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company, complaining through BBB, and following up through legal means. Worst company I've ever worked with in my life!!! Edit: Leak got worse and ran down to the first story causing more damage to the house. What a nightmare!!! As others have reported here, the service is a nightmare. I've been playing the role of unpaid manager for this company as their customer for 8 months now. They have still not completed service, yet I am getting emails from various corners of their companies with "noreply" addresses reminding me that I need to pay up. There is always someone else I should be talking to and always more hours of my personal day I should be spending on the phone explaining from scratch to whomever how the job was never completed. Then I am told that because "the system" shows it as closed that I am just wrong and need to pay up for work never completed. There is no one person I can hold accountable here. It's frustrating and I have no faith in their ability to resolve this with any amount of my own time put into it. Do not do business with SunRun. read more

Ok so what you read in the reviews is correct. THEY HARASS you with calls, come by your house after you cancel the appointment (email and phone call cancelation) and EVEN AFTER ASKING THEM TWICE TO REMOVE ME FROM THE CALL LIST they kept calling. I didn't want to deal with them after I signed up for a quote at Costco, because of all the poor reviews. I even conveyed this two two different reps. The last one that called me just now wouldn't take no for answer. I told him please stop calling and he wouldn't let go. I had to hang up on them. Should have listened to the reviews. Their marketing team claims their service support is improved. Not so!!! Dismal customer service. All departments are disjointed and there is zero incentive to help you. My system was down for 2 months. A repair person could not be scheduled for another 3 weeks. Then they called and said they had to reschedule due to technical training. So I lost another 2 weeks. The tech finally arrived and claimed he knew what was wrong. He said he fixed it and would check the next day. It's been a week and it is not fixed and I have to call SunRun again to get it resolved. JUST DON'T. Im putting this review on EVERY sunrun yelp review. For pictures go here https://www.yelp.com/biz/sunrun-san-jose-7 Sunrun took over Vivint.  They're just as stupid.  Besides that my true up bill is over $1000 a year -  (calculating everything I pay to PGE -  SUNRUN - and Vivint - yes, somehow still being charged by Vivint -  I am paying over $450 a month for Electricity) they are just as dumb. I have my account set on autopay so I never check it.  I finally decided to review everything since my last true up was $1230.00 and saw that I was being charged $5 a month from Vivint for fees since I "am not set up with ACH autopay" even though that money is being taken by ACH withdrawal from my checking account!!! So I contact them and I explain it so many ways that I've run out of ways to say it clearly.  They just keep repeating themselves stating that "the customer" set up payment with a credit card on December 29, 2021.  Hmmm.  I never set anything up with them -  I've always been set up through Vivint with autopay.  One lady even told me that when the information was migrated over it was listed as coming from a credit card.  I said - ok well, its my checking account.  Not a credit card.  And for some reason they're morons and cannot understand.   This money would show on my credit card statement if it were set up with my credit card.  You normal people understand this, right?  But it is being withdrawn from my checking account, like it's supposed to.   It's driving me nuts.  I don't know if they're really that dumb or they're effing with me.  They won't take responsibility for it and just keep saying that "a customer" set this up.  Oh - and that if I don't want to be charged fees, I need to manage my account and add it to autopay. I went and did this anyway because they're dumb.   I think any child would deduce that the problem happened when migrating client information over into their system.  But they can't even fathom that.   Anyway - so they only owe me like $100 and they refuse to pay it or take responsibility.  One lady said there is no way they can refund that money because of the way I set it up (???!!!) but she can give me a $50 credit for being a customer.  NOT BECAUSE THEY WRONGLY CHARGED ME!!!  wth. But ya - don't lease. Just buy your panels. Go with a better company. stay far away from Sunrun and Vivint. I've had to tell my neighbors that were almost convinced - not to do it. The sales people lie through their teeth to get you to sign because there are no consequences. They can tell you ANYTHING. but the contract you sign will be very different. EDIT: I know this review is already WAAAAY too long - but I had to just post this. Just to show you how dumb they are there. They sent me an email to request my pge bills (12 consecutive ones) yesterday (November 2). And then sent another email today (Nov. 3) saying they're closing the case due to my non response within 3 business days. wow read more

RUINED OUR ROOF MAJOR LEAKS We went with Sunrun to do a roof replacement and solar installation. They subcontracted out the roof replacement to Epic Energy and then installed the solar. After months and months of delay and lack of response, we finally got both the roof replaced and the solar installed. At the first sign of rain, major leaks in the roof. We had an emergency specialist come out to inspect and he said they didn't even install the roof up to code. On top of all of that solar panels were installed so poorly that the screws went through the ceiling. $30,000 later and we are going to have to get our roof repaired and RE installed on our own dime. We have reached out to Sunrun multiple times about this issue and haven't received a single response. Still waiting and hoping that they take responsibility. read more

Do not use this company! I am still living through the worst customer service nightmare of my life. Early this year, I had to have work done in my roof, which required removal of the panels. In June (as in 4 months ago) I notified sunrun the roof work was done and I needed to schedule the reinstallation. I spent countless hours on hold trying to talk to someone, and if I ever did get through, the person would not help me. It has now been 4 months and my panels are still sitting in my yard, I have no date for reinstallation, and nobody can explain the process, why it's taking so long, or if they ever actually intend to fulfill their contract. And I can't have someone else do it or else I will be forced to pay a penalty and waive the warranty. This is a complete nightmare, Star far away from this company. read more

DO NOT USE SUNRUN! Sunrun is one of the worst companies I have dealt with. I absolutely regret getting solar panels from Sunrun. Drew Freeman was our salesperson. He seemed like a nice guy, but after they sign you up, the company could not care less about their customers. We had issues with our lights flickering about 6-8 weeks after our panels were installed. At first, we did not suspect the solar panels because the flickering started happening weeks after the panels were installed. It turns out the switch to solar did not happen right away (which we understand is normal since PG&E has to approve the switch over). Thinking the problem was with our wiring, we hired an electrician -- we actually hired a few different electricians. The third electrician said the issue might be with the solar setup. He said he wasn't sure because he is not an expert in solar. He said something about the number of volts or watts (I can't remember which) going into the subpanel was not the correct amount - essentially, it wasn't enough. When we tried to have a tech come out, we were told it would be TWO months before we could get on the schedule. WHAT? Seriously? We got on the schedule. My husband took the day, and the tech didn't show up. No call or text. It was a big waste of time. A month later, when someone finally came out, they discovered that what was installed was indeed incorrect. But of course, they didn't have the correct part on their truck. It took a month to get someone else out. And guess what, we are still having issues. read more

TL;DR: Stay away. They are atrocious. I had solar system installed onto my house in 2014. Sunrun has inherited this project after they bought out the previous installer. There were roof leaks from the first day of installation and another one two years later. The first two times they were relatively fast to respond. On the third time in year 4, they were weeks out while it was pouring water into my living room. I fixed the problem with a different roofer for which they reimbursed me in exchange for a release letter. Now in year 7, the whole roof needs to be replaced because the original installation was so bad. Turns out they are not even supposed to do the type of install they did onto my type of roof. The release letter from year 3 absolves them apparently (nice lawyering there), and I am saddled with $70k in roofing bills that they refuse to cover. They still want to put the panels back on and refuse to redesign the system or even warranty their reinstall so that I am not saddled with another $70k in 5 years. At one point, on a recorded call, they agreed to walk away from my project and close the account. Some days later, I get a call stating they are walking it all back, and I am still responsible for everything. Even when pointing out to what they agreed on a recording, they still did not care and wanted to "reset expectations" whatever that means. Their response to any email or call takes days or weeks. Absolutely atrocious pace. Been dealing with this nightmare since February 2021, and still nowhere close to being done. Stay away from these people like the plague they are. Edit: They put in a message below, stating they will contact me, but besides asking for the service address there was no followup at all. Just marketing to make themselves look better. read more

SunRun went above and beyond in the solar+Tesla powerwall installation and in particular the follow-up of promised customizations, including the wiring for a 220-volt outlet. Want to thank Nick Samaniego and his operation team, including Louis, Gabriel and the installation lead Octavio. They are all experienced professionals. I also appreciate Ajay Pal Singh's efforts which made the key difference. There was a period with lapses in communication due to the departure of my salesperson. Ajay's responsive communication and actions set a great example of customer service. Overall, SunRun is highly recommended. read more
