They all come from other top-rated solar installation companies, so they are knowledgeable and know what they're doing. Before they could start, I first needed a new roof installed. RM Energy worked directly with my roofer to coordinate a time when they could install the standoffs during the roofing project. Once my new roof was installed, they started the following Monday. The installation went quickly, with some rain delays. The longest delay was actually waiting for PG&E to install the Tesla backup switch. RM Energy also worked directly with PG&E and the city building department to take care of all the paperwork (applications, backup switch installation, permit, inspections, etc.). Even though I already did a bit of homework and research on solar systems, I still had a bunch of questions, and Michael was responsive and answered all my questions. I also appreciated that Michael came out in person for the initial consultation. He didn't do a Zoom meeting, ask me to take pictures of my electrical panel, or try to hard sell me on solar. Here is the timeline: 7/23 - Contract was signed on. And they started drawing design and submitted application/design to city within a week. 7/31 - Installation started, and took 3 days to finish installing a 7.68 K system (SolarWorld solar panels+Enphase Micro-inverters). The system was up and running, and we were able to use the sun generated electricity during the day. 8/4 Passed city inspection (GPI scheduled it for me, and was with the inspector to whole time to answer questions) 8/10 Got confirmation email from PG&E for receiving my Net Energy Metering application (GPI submitted for me) 9/14 PG&E activated NEM. (PG&E had some issues with my application, and GPI had to resubmit the application 9/5) I can see the negative using in my online account. Overall, it took less than 2 months for the whole process. If PG&E didn't mess up my application, I could have had it in a month. From what I heard from my neighbors, this is like a record time for solar panel installation. Advice for fellow solar panel shoppers: - Do research first, narrow down what brand of solar panels you want to use, and what kind of inverters (string inverters vs micro-inverter ). Then go out get the quotes. Because vendor A can give you a quote for 5K system for $10K, and vendor B gives you a quote for a 5K system for $13k. But vendor B might actually giving you a better deal because they use SunPower panels while vendor A uses Canadian solar panels (btw, that's a Chinese brand). (just an example, the numbers are bogus) - Get more quotes (minimum 5), before signing your contract. And better save Green Power Installers for the last. Then you know you are getting a great price. :) - No matter which installer you choose in the end, make sure the warranty includes both parts and labor.

Then I just google searched & found this company with 5* rating and thought of giving it a try. What happened: When I called 'Pacific Edge Electric & Solar' it went into voice mail, but within 2 minutes I got a text message - " we will be calling you in 10 minutes". I was so surprised by their fast response as I tried connected with other companies as well and never got response from them. Adem from Pacific Edge called me in few minutes and he asked me what's the issue. I explained him & he assured me that he will stop by within few hours. Then a representative called me and took the details from me. It was very fast moving service & response from their end. Their services: Adem texted me the time frame when he will be coming. He came & inspect everything max within 15 minutes and found the issue. Fixed it. & he explained me the issue - why it happened & how it needs to be fixed. Also he charged a nominal fee. My electricity bills are now incredibly low to practically non-existent, and I couldn't be happier with the overall results. Sheryl and Zach were fantastic to work with from start to finish. They are incredibly thorough. For example, when our original REC panels couldn't be sourced due to a production shortage, they quickly pivoted to Maxeon panels. Zach actually came out to measure my roof twice just to guarantee the new layout would fit perfectly, and they recalculated our system's capacity to ensure we got the best setup. A couple of minor issues came up along the way, but this is where their customer service really shined: During installation: A wire was left exposed instead of inside a conduit. When I pointed it out, Zach didn't hesitate--he immediately offered a great alternate solution to run the communication line seamlessly through the crawl space. The rest of the crew's work was impeccable, highly professional, respectful of our property, and finished right on time. Post-installation: A few months later, a communication issue caused the system to stop seeing loads from the main panel. We have had an Enphase solar installation for 10 years now, which has always worked beautifully…read more However, due to regular PG&E outages in our area (Fremont, CA), we decided to add a backup battery to the system. After careful research, we chose Highlight Solar (HS) to handle this installation. We chose the Franklin battery, and Highlight Solar came out to handle the installation in Nov 2025. Sadly, we had some serious issues with the functionality of our solar infrastructure, after the Franklin equipment was installed... the Enphase solar monitoring device (called Envoy) started having trouble communicating with the panels, and therefore would disable them. HS made a couple of different attempts to fix this issue (which was delayed when they went on vacation for a month), so I had to keep cycling the breaker for the panels every morning to get the system working for another day. Fortunately, they were persistent in pursuing the issue, and after returning from vacation in late January, Samir came out and spent a couple of hours on the phone with Enphase support, who suggested a possible solution for this issue. HS then had someone come out to implement Enphase's suggestion, and now my system is working solidly and reliably (Feb 2026). I'm glad HS didn't just give up on us; I'm sure they were just as frustrated as we were by this situation. We certainly didn't expect this to take three months to resolve, but it is working now.

We had a few small details that took several extra visits to work through, which they did gladly - and went above and beyond - even checking some things out that they had not installed and correcting a couple of electrical connections that they were not actually responsible for. While I was told they were juggling 14 jobs that day, the "all-hands-on-deck" effort was impressive. However, I wasn't told until afterward that it would take another 5-7 weeks for PG&E to replace the meter collar (the "BUS install"). Since this is a prerequisite for PowerWall 3 systems to feed power back into the panel, my system sat in standby mode for over a month waiting for a five-minute PG&E visit. While the utility's timeline is outside Cobalt's control, it did take the wind out of my sails, so to speak. Regarding the pre-install process, the experience shifted once I voiced "strong concerns" via a Yelp review and my sales rep. Following that, I received true white-glove service; dates stopped slipping, and check-ins became frequent. This proved critical when my PowerWall 3 failed and required an RMA just before the PG&E visit. To Cobalt's credit, they handled the replacement swiftly, finishing with literally hours to spare before the PG&E tech arrived. In summary, Cobalt performed as well as could be expected given the 2025 constraints--specifically the inventory shortages and the installation rush triggered by expiring tax credits. The on-site work itself has been top-notch; the workmanship is clean and the field staff were professional. However, internal communication needs an overhaul. I only achieved a reasonable level of responsiveness after capturing the attention of the CEO and COO. Furthermore, there are simply too many points of contact, which requires the customer to guess who handles what. In hindsight, I'd recommend keeping a direct line to your salesperson; working solely through the overworked project managers was often an exercise in frustration, as emails and calls frequently went unanswered. Once you connect with the right people, the service is excellent. After my installation, I was placed in the hands of Alex H., a Field Technician Manager. He acted as the "closing pitcher"--responsive, communicative, and dedicated to seeing the final details through to completion.
