We wanted to go more green, but had 2 big questions: 1) does our roof expose to enough sunlight to harvest sun power for our usage? 2) which company is the best when it comes to honesty & customer service? Sunrun (via Costco) installed the solar system for our neighbor and they have been really happy with the system and experience with the company. We decided to get a consultation. Kulpreet was our designer/consultant. He explained how our electric/gas bill various between seasons & pointed out that some of the months we had to pay more for the delivery of electricity. (Potential $ saving here.) He explained how the "harvesting" system works and how we could benefit/not benefit from it. He did a live calculation on how much electricity we could harvest base on the efficiency of the different types of panels and the number of panels in the system. Also, how we could benefit from doing so especially during power outages. We didn't feel pressure from anyone at all. It's a plus! When it came to the next steps, Sunrun process is user friendly. Their notification system & their program manager would kept us you informed on the progress. They gathered all the necessary paperwork for our HOA approval in just a few days. Kupreet would contact me just to make sure we are informed of the progress. Highly recommend him as a consultant. Installation was completed in a day. Crew was friendly and organized. They explained and offered alternate solution when issues came up. So far, the process from consult to HOA to install took ~2months. Now, we are waiting for inspection and the next steps, battery rebate (which the company said will handle for the customer), etc. Will update the review then. read more

From the start and explanation of how things work, installation, permits, etc. it went very smoothly. Every step from Sunrun was on time and very professional. When PG&E gave permission to turn on the system, it was turned on remotely, and we started helping save the environment. The most important part is that everything happened as was explained and there were no surprises. We highly recommend Sunrun. read more

I am so sad and disappointed in our Sunrun experience. I had previously posted a glowing review after my experience with the Costco sales representative and installation team. That was in JANUARY of 2019. We are now in November and the system has never worked. We had to change our tier with PG&E in order to get the SUNRUN system and now we are paying the absolute maximum for PG&E and the solar loan. We have a $3,500 PG&E bill now and it is continually growing. DO NOT BUY SUNRUN. They blame everything on the buyer and do not uphold the agreement for the promised guarantee. The sales guys talk a good talk and rope you in...DON'T BUY IT. I have never written a bad review before but we are so upset we feel like we have to say something so that other people are not taken advantage of in this way. read more

Ariadne walked me through the process, answered all the questions to help make me comfortable making the decision to get solar panels! I'm looking forward to the significantly reduced PG&E bills!! read more

The only time that I have ever write on Yelp is with Sunrun. On December 11, 2017 we called Sunrun because one of our inverter went out and knowing the the warranty was over, we would have to purchase a new one. Sunrun took the information and said a tec would call to schedule an appointment. One week goes by and another. We than contacted another company on December 27, 2017, explained our problem and within 1 week we had a new inverter installed and our solar was up and running. Today Wednesday, January 17, 2018 we received a doc sign to give us a quote on the inverter. No sooner I read the email a message on my home phone, from Sunrun, stated that they sent a doc sign, to please sign so they can get us on the schedule. This cost my thru up an extra $400.00 read more

BEWARE!! Well first time have seen world's no.1 company with most ridiculous customer service. Post installation and trust me right after installation their problem is ONLY your problem. They will send technicians with partial knowledge and you cant get the wrong installation right because F the customer care. They just focus on making customers stuck for life!!! They will reply your on grievances on social media but do NOTHING!!! I see this company going down very soon!! Check their FB page "community" tab for customer reviews!! All bad!! UPDATE ------ Its been one month after this review also. No action from sunrun. Such a useless solar provider!!! read more

We have a blackout in our neighborhood right now and i am using my computer and internet at our home because of backup power provided by our Sunrun solar system. It's amazing. the rest of the house is dark, but Internet and computer is still providing access. Teddy Smith (650.422.1775) helped us get our Sunrun system up and running a year ago and it's running strong. So glad we made the switch to solar. read more

Not good. It's been Murphy's law from the beginning with Sunrun. From the beginning they screwed it up in the billing phase through the end. They messed up with the billing so I had to pay for the whole system up front. They made me call them repeatedly for months to get the $500 gift card that I was promised upon completion of my installation. My roof was two years old with no leaks, but then after they install I suddenly had a leak... and it's not their fault. The $500 gift card can't be spent online apparently because no one will take it as payment. My parents installed solar two months after us, and I told them to go with someone else and you should also. read more

The worst solar company ever! My bill is always high! I pay to produce but never use what I produce I'm just paying!

I have had SunRun system installed in September of 2020. Since then I have had three service incidents requiring on site fix. Two of the incidents have resulted in system shutting supply to the house/ PGE for 5 weeks. Their service response time is very poor. I can not believe they are so insensitive to system down conditions. They are nonchalant in scheduling service calls 5 weeks out. Bottom line line is their system reliability and service response time is unacceptable. In the past I have recommended system to my friends, but now I don't after experiencing poor service. read more

The customer service department is awfully. I Have been on hold with them twice today for over 30 minutes each time. Had a appointment for today, however they didn't follow through with booking the appointment. Seems either terrible training or new people just not understanding what to do. David Aynehsazan walked us through the process of getting solar panels on our home. He was patient, honest, and answered all of our questions. Summary: Stay away. Bumped into one of their people in Home Depot and gave them my info as I was exploring some solar opportunities. I was put in touch with a rep and had scheduled an on-site walkthrough. After actually looking them up and reading the bad reviews, I decided to cancel, which I did. They told me to reschedule for a better time and I never did. The rep showed up at my house anyways the following weekend, telling me solar was basically free and he didn't understand why I didn't want to talk. ODD & inappropriate. I then received repeated phone calls from a sales person who left a message saying it "was very important that we speak". I called back and was put in touch with I assume their corporate office. They were nice and put me on the do not call list. The sales person called me anyways, ignored most of what I said (aka that I'm not interested) and tried to schedule another on-site anyways. What? So happy I chose a different company. I regret giving these folks my telephone number. read more

My experience with Sunrun was an extremely painful one. The only good I can say about sunrun is the panels look good, my system works and Kulpreet who was my sales rep was fantastic to work with. He was knowledgeable and always answered my questions. The installation process was so bad and the install team was terrible to say the least. There was one miscommunication after the next. As a contractor I know how to properly attach things to a house and communicate with my sub contractors. Dealing with this circus, was like babysitting a bunch of kids that just gout power tools for the first time. Because Sunrun was so busy, they sent a crew to my house from a completely different area. Not only did they penetrate my siding and mount the equipment incorrectly they mounted the solar brackets in my roof in the wrong place. I called ahead many times to have someone from Sunrun do a walkthrough prior to the install to observe the house in case they needed to do anything special. It was like pulling teeth to get someone to come out. When they did it was the day before and he didn't note anything special when in fact I have a cedar shingled house that requires the installation of mounting blocks first so that the equipment will sit flat against the wall. They mounted the equipment crooked and when they tried to screw it right to the shingles I had to make them stop. I then had to jump in while they waited for me to remove shingles, install new flashing and install proper wood backing that would allow the equipment to sit flat. If I wasn't a contractor I can only imagine what poor homeowner would be getting as a finished product. After countless screw ups they finally sent out a local crew who actually knew what they where doing. The install started in November and my solar was up and running by April. Needless to say I am happy to have solar, the panels look good, I like the online software Sunrun has and I really liked Kulpreet. I'm am giving 5 stars to Kulpreet and 1 star to Sunrun, Hence my overall 3 star review. It's my recommendation that if you work with Sunrun, you get a GC on board, work with Kulpreet and a local crew. Do not have them outsource another crew from out of the area. read more

Terrible billing department and customer service. We bought our house when the panels were owned by Vivint two years ago. Sunrun bought out Vivint last year, and sent an email to all its customers that service wouldn't change, and that if we were enrolled in auto pay that would continue. A year later we received a bill for $1000. Not a single call, email, or paper mail notice to let us know the autopay we had set up with Vivint wasn't working correctly (even though it said it was on their website). We were told to pay the outstanding balance or have our service cut off. Not other options were presented so they could fix the problem they created. I wouldn't put their panels on my house if I had a choice. AVOID! read more

I have a rental in Bakersfield Ca and got the system install at the house. When I was checking what system/company to use, the offer me a $750 if I select their system as a cash incentive. They told me that I will get the cash after the system is up and running. The installation was Ok but the paperwork to deal with PG&E and Sunrun was a nightmare. It took 2 months after installation to get the paperwork completed. And now that the system is running and I have request the cash incentive several times....Nothing! I have not received anything and they do not respond my inquires about the Visa card that I suppose to get "in the mail". read more

The issues keep piling up and yet to be resolved. This is a did functional Company to say the least!

I had solar installed 4/27/23, City came 5/1/23 for inspection and it failed. I was told by the Sun Run rep who came out to meet the City that the wiring is different from what the plan said. Sun Run is suppose to correct the plan and it would take 1-2 weeks. After 3 weeks, had not heard from my Sun Run co-ordinator and I called and left message with the person who answered the phone. She said the co-ordinator would call back within 3 days. Why does it take 3 days?? Every time I called, the response is, it would take 3 days to call back. She eventually called and she looked through my report and said she does not know what is going on because the team did not leave any note and she was going to follow it up. That was 5/19/23 and again, didn't hear from her. I called again today and the co-ordinator is still NOT AVAILABLE. She is almost never available. After installation, the team did not show me the functionality of the units and if there is something I should do in case of emergency. Did not mention to me about an app. My neighbour had their panels installed by Sun Run after I did and they also failed inspection. We had different installation teams. You would think they do this everyday, how do different teams keep making the same mistakes. read more

This is the most incompetent, shady, and infuriating company I've had to deal with in the last few years. Boy, I'm not even sure where to start. But if you don't read any further, just know this - STAY AWAY. 1) Customer service. Horrible. They don't answer calls, texts ... and when they do, they make false promises. I had an agent after multiple phone calls apologize for the painful process and lack of communication, and promise that everything will be "smooth from here on out." Guess what ... it wasn't. After showing up to do the install, they call me at noon to say the roof isn't suitable for install ... and promptly pulled the plug and left (more below in #3). 2) Competency. Totally incompetent folks. As an example, we had to re-do the pricing multiple times because of mistakes they made on their end. They would quote me $X but then it would be $Y when the contract came through. If I didn't read carefully, I would have been cheated out of hundreds if not thousands of $. 3) Following through. They don't keep their word. After weeks/months of discussing pricing, timing, # panels ... AND doing a roof assessment where they send "experts" to evaluate the feasibility of an install, they finally show up at my house to do the work. After 3 hours, I get a call at work that they can't do the install and have to cancel the entire project. Why? ... apparently, my roof isn't suitable for panels. BUT, they did the assessment audit, and put me through the ringer to finally get my signature on a contract. And, after drilling holes in my roof and garage (to install the inverter), they promptly cancel and leave. I'm going to find a lawyer and see if there is legal recourse for me here. I'm leaving this review here as, similar to other customers here, I feel compelled to let other know that this company is a sham. I'm surprised they even rise to their current 3-star level. In a world of options, you want to go with competent, honest people you can trust. These folks are none of those. Stay away! read more

I received a call from a SunRun representative that said I filled out a form saying I was interested in solar. When I said I didn't, he said I must have forgotten. He then acted surprised to see that only my phone number was included and he needed my name. Funny how that happens when strangers make a point of filling out a form with just my cell phone number. He went on to say they were "helping the Federal government" with a mandate to get everyone on solar by 2020. When I asked for more information about this mandate, I was put on hold and they came back with a URL northamericansolarsource.com. That URL does not exist. Probably because there is no solar mandate and this is called bait and switch marketing. I asked to be removed from the list and have since been called 4 times. When I asked this last time to speak to a supervisor, I was told they don't have them. read more

My husband and I worked with Robert a Solar Consultant from Sunrun. Robert was an absolute pleasure to work with. He arrived to our home promptly and was well groomed. I told him about another solar consultant from who attempted to sell us solar panels. We explained what we were looking for and let Robert know our plans for solar. After listening to us, Robert discuss Sunrun Solar Panels.and options for getting off the grid. The funny things is originally, we was just planning on letting Robert come and talk about Sunrun Solar, we had no intention on actually getting panels, right now; after all we was sure his sells pitch would end like the solar consultant. The day our solar panels were installed was amazing. Five guys ( Daniel, Hector, Reynoldo, Adam, and William) showed up at 7:00 am sharp and began installing everything from extra electrical panels to copper safety grounds. The workers informed us about everything that was being done and continually provided us with updates. The supervisor even showed up to recheck all work as it was completed. The work was so nicely done with no signs that work had taken place, except for the installed beautiful shiny solar panel on my roof. All areas were clean and all conduit was painted to match my home ( the roof and exterior walls). The other great part of using Sunrun is that they have a 7 step process for solar panel installation. additionally, they take care of everything from the financing, design, permits, inspection, etc. This was great because it saved us a lot of time and leg work. Sensational service, is all I can say, I HIGHLY recommend contacting Sunrun if you have any interest in having solar panels installed. George and Darlene C read more

SunRun has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. On hold forever. Now, sorry, wrong department, call this number. When you finally reach someone, they promise to take care of the problem, then they do not. Start over again. Online monitoring is not at all reliable. Their record keeping is both incorrect and self serving. They contract to elders that do not know what they are signing. These are just the few things I have personally experienced. read more

My solar installation was done by REC about 7 years ago and I have nothing but praise for them. The system was installed perfectly and has performed very well. That said, Sunrun customer service, which started out OK with a reasonable first attempt at a website, has deteriorated to the point that I feel compelled to warn others about them. When I call customer service, I feel like I'm talking with a teenager that neither understands the issues nor cares at all about resolving them. The web site service portal is just as bad. Problems posted are closed long before they are resolved, leaving me in the dark as to whether they are being handled. When my meter needed replacing, it took many weeks and communication attempts to get it handled. The issue was handed off from department to department as if they had never seen it before. When the service person finally came out to replace the meter, it was clear that it was a routine issue that was well known to them. The website, while looking prettier, continues to deteriorate in the ability to track and analyze my production history. Furthermore, when my obsolete and malfunctioning meter was recently replaced, my entire history disappeared from the website and it is unclear if it will ever come back. One person said no, while another said 4 weeks ago that it would be done in about 2 weeks. Now he is saying he doesn't know when the technical people will do it. They were washing my panels yearly per promises they had made and which were confirmed to me in subsequent communications as a grandfathered service. Then they unilaterally decided to stop this service with no consideration given, denying that the commitment had ever been made. I could go on and on, but I can no longer recommend Sunrun until they get their customer service issues under control. I hope that the REC part of the company is still performing to their prior standards and that they have not been dragged down as well. read more

I met with Carla from Sunrun to explore solar options for our energy needs. Carla was the best to work with! She is very knowledgable and helped us understand and make an informed decision. They truly did excellent work. Looking forward to saving money this summer and keeping cool with clean solar energy. Give Carla a call if you are considering the jump to solar. I met today with Sam Omron to talk about solar. He was very soft spoken and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with the information he gave me. He used his computer to show me how much I would save, where the panels would be placed, a 25 yr warrantee, etc. I was happy to hear that they won't put up panels if your roof won't last 10 yrs. He answered all my questions and concerns. I choose the Lease option, as no money out of my pocket. This is a great deal. With PG&E rising costs, this is the way to go. We had a mixed experience with REC Solar. The start of the process was great - the salesman we worked with - Ben - was a real professional; no hard-sell, just clear explanations, useful information and readily available to help us through the process. The end of the process has also been great: REC delivered a system that works just as promised and our home (in a foggy neighborhood in SF) has had a negative PG&E bill so far for every month since it was installed. The middle of the process, however, was not ideal. We had initially planned to lease the system through Sunrun, but quickly found that trying to reach anyone at Sunrun was like trying to get through some massive corporation where you can't reach anyone without waiting on hold for 20 minutes. I was told that they would soon be increasing their customer service staffing, but I wasn't willing to bank on that. So we decided to get a home equity loan and do an outright purchase. On the day the job was supposed to begin, the crew stood us up with no phone call. We had been told by the REC scheduler that we should plan to be home to meet them, but when we called to see where they were, we were informed that it had only been a "suggestion" that we take the day off work to meet them! (To their credit, they did ultimately compensate us with a nice gift card for our hassle). When a new date was set to begin, the crew that showed up did not inspire confidence; they had been given the wrong installation plans, and the foreman told us that he didn't want to be working on a non-union job like this, but that this was better than having to steal to feed his family (there are not any in-between options?). But once they got the correct plans, the work was done well and without further glitches. In summary: I am glad we have solar and REC delivered a nice system for us at a competitive price. But I had hoped this would feel like doing business with a cutting edge company with futuristic and smooth installation process, but instead some key parts of it felt like all of the usual hassles one has in dealing with home contractors. read more

Don't use them. It's been over 2 years since I have signed on with Vivint/Sunrun and I've had nothing but poor communication and lack of concern for my time/patience. After having the panels on my house for almost 2 years and multiple visits by their service people, my solar service has just started, but no one told me it did - I just figured it out because I was getting a lot of emails from Sunrun about how to use their website. Sunrun..... Great Job. The purchase and financial portion through the HERO program were a breeze. I've looked at a number of solar companies including the large nemes a a few mom and pop companies. Sunrun offered the largest system of everyone at the best price. The install crew was on time, prepared and ready to work. The inverter install is neat clean and tucked cleanly in the garage. Thanks to Todd. The panels are aligned neatly in a row on three areas of each roof, with the conduit tucked away from view. As of now we are 100 percent satisfied and waiting for pge to come by and switch out our meter to a net meter. The true test will come once we are on line generating power. We have been looking into buying Solar Power for at least a few weeks now and were referred to Kelly Lombardo at Sunrun by a close family friend. We couldn't be more happy with Kelly. She answered all of our questions and made us feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger and get the ball rolling on our install. Kelly plans to stay in touch with us throughout the entire process as well. Going Solar is a bit intimidating but I have to say the way that Sunrun approaches things, the transparency, having someone like Kelly walk through all the details with us, taking care of all the costs...it makes it so much easier. We're really looking forward to next steps and have nothing but nice things to say so far about Sunrun and Kelly both! read more

This has been the worst experience I have ever had in dealing with any home product. Everything seemed normal when they came as my wife was here and I was away. I was coming home expecting to have everything done. Not even close. They broke so many tiles. And left a giant black tarp on top of my roof with no word on when they were going to return. There were tiles falling off my roof and nails scattered on the floor where my dogs and children play. I called SunRun and they asked me to call a third party who actually did it. Thats one thing about SunRun, they don't even do the install. They outsource it to others and expect you to call them. A roofer came days later to remove tiles. That meant more tiles and nails for me to clean up. Then I was sent more phone numbers to call. I was told it was going to be done soon, which seemed like a tactic to let the 5 days expire before I can cancel. I've been on the phone with SunRun and give you the run around. They say someone with contact in 5-7 days. Then I get another email saying someone will contact in 24-48 hours. Here I am 3 days later and still nothing. SunRun has a communication and outsourcing issue. I signed with SunRun more than 2 weeks ago and have a ruined roof, I don't feel safe for my children to play outside, I have to constantly check for nails for my dogs, and I'm all out of days off to wait for them to finish what they said they would. This was supposed to be an addition of solar that was done years ago that was done in hours. I wish I can go back and slam the door on anyone that came to my house promoting SunRun. I will continue to tell anyone and everyone I know to never go with Sun Run. read more

Ross W. I have been waiting Over 2 weeks to have my Solar system repaired. They outsourced for servicing of our system and sent me the name of 1 company that never contacted me, then cancelled with them after 11 days and sent me the name of another that is supposed to take up to 5 days to contact me. I heard from the company and they said they need approval because they are about 4 + hours from where I live and they need Sunrun's approval to actually come out and do the service! I have spent 5 hours on the phone trying to get help and only 2 competent people have tried to help. I was then sent the names of 2 people from Customer service to try to contact for more help, that was 6 days ago and I heard from them and the other I never heard from. Do not use Sunrun! We had our panels installed in November of 2020. We were lied too during the installation process. Our project manager told us that our system was up and running when it was not and had failed inspection twice. We finally got our panels up and running. Then it rained and we have now have a significant roof leak, which has required immediate mediation to prevent further damage. We had our roof inspected by a roofer who stated that they messed up the roof when they installed the solar panels. We have called Sunrun almost daily and have been hung up on and given the run around. We can't speak to anyone beyond who answers the phone. Everyday that this issue is ignored causes more damage to my house. read more
