Let me start off by saying that I have been wearing glasses since the first grade so I am very familiar with optometrists and eye exams. When the time came around to get my eyes checked this year, I searched the internet and of course yelped about it. I decided to give Sunrise Optometry a try this year. PROS: - Plenty of parking in a private lot - Convenient hours with evening and Saturday appointments available - Easy to call and make an appointment CONS: - The doctor was quick...perhaps TOO quick I must have been in and out of there within 10 minutes. He tried to dilate my eyes with drops, but after putting the drops in one eye and a few failed attempts with the other he said that I was protective of my eyeballs and stopped trying. It felt weird driving home with one eye affected. Unlike other doctors, he didn't ask me to read entire lines. Instead he asked me to focus on one letter for the beloved "this one or that one" a couple times before writing the new prescription I will have for the next two years. - The "great selection" of frames all look the same I went in with an idea of the kind of frame that would flatter my face but my options were very limited for round and cat-eyed frames. If you want square or rectangular frames available in black, then this place is for you. read more

Not impressed, paid for a very expensive premium level frame and lenses. With all of my special requests, they hand me a hand scribbled (with cross outs) notepad list of the charges when I requested charge details, very unprofessional. I did feel that it was not a correct list of charges, but went forward anyway and paid the high amount. In the end, I was not very happy with the quality of the very expensive lenses right from the day I received them, and it got worse within a year to the point that I need new glasses now. Came in with a pair of sunglasses I tried to fix myself but couldn't find the right size screw. Whipped out my wallet fully willing and expecting to pay $5-$10 but was told no charge. I would expect that for someone who comes in regularly for their glasses but not some rando off the street. I came across this in my desperate search for a cheap opto (w/o insurance) 'cause I desperately needed more contacts. I didn't care about finding a good opto, just the cheapest place I could get my prescription and walk out with a free pair of contacts, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got here! AMBIANCE: 4 STARS Tiny, kinda random location, but inside was clean. They were prompt and professional without trying to push me into buying contacts from them. SERVICE: 5 STARS less than 3 months later I finished my 6 month contact supply that they recommended cuz it was not a good match for my eyes. I came back wanting a trial pair of another brand to hold me over for another month. Not only did they give me a new free trial pair to try, but they ordered me 2 extra pairs so it would last me another 2 months to last me the full 6 months the original brand should've lasted! Talk about awesome customer service! PRICE: 5 STARS They were by far the cheapest. After I booked the appt I checked yelp to see if they had reviews on here and lo' and behold they had an awesome $75 for $50 deal which made them even MORE affordable! I was above surprisingly satisfied during my 1st visit and thought about giving em a 5 star review but got lazy. Now I've been not just satisfied but surprised again and impressed! I have terrible vision so terrific eye care is a must for me. And terrific eye care is what I received from Dr. Kim at Sunrise Optometry. The eye exam was thorough and efficient, Dr. Kim has newer equipment so he doesn't have to slip those lens in and out. I ordered both new glasses and contacts, and it only took a week or so to get both to me. My left contact kept slipping though, so I had to go back several times. Dr. Kim ordered replacements twice for me, at no charge, because he guarantees a perfect fit. Which is what I enjoy now. Located in a pleasant hilly suburb plaza, there is plenty of parking, with a starbucks next door to calm your nerves before you take that exam. I've been coming here for my contacts for quite some time, maybe 5 years or more. They have exceptional customer service and always make me feel comfortable. They do not try to sell you gimmicks or extraneous products. There is a really nice Korean lady who i spoke with (who might be one of the doctor's mom??) and she made me smile. Cant say enough good things about this place. Insurance covered my eye exam and prescription so I only came here to get my eyeglasses made. I'm glad I did! Actually would have been better if I came here for the exam as well. The first prescription I came here with was too strong so I had to go back and get the prescription adjusted. Even though this wasnt the place I got the prescription from they had no problem remaking the lenses at no charge. Besides this they gave me a good deal on the frames and didn't try to up sell me anything. They knew exactly the design I was looking for and helped me pick a frame I liked. My family and I have gone here for years. My parents and sister all have glasses, and I use contacts. They're really nice here and know how to get just the right prescription. They don't subject you to buying or doing anything unnecessary and are honest and open about what they're doing. Been coming here for about 2 years now. Great service, really friendly doctors, and so close to my house, doesn't get better than that. Ordering and getting glasses is also easy, and they give good recommendations as to what fits your face best. As much as I hate paying money to order expensive contacts since I have astigmatism and I have been rejected twice for LASIK, this is the only optometrist I would go to for all my glasses/contact needs. i highly recommend them! :) read more

Dr. Kim was amazing. He is truly knowledgeable and really listens to your issues. He communicates that he truly cares for your eye health by listening intently to any issues you may have and does his best to diagnose and address the situation. Dr. Kim is amazing. And so is his brother. My son was diagnosed 200/20 in his left eye and perfect vision in his right. Dr. Kim said we needed to patch his eye for the next few years and he also wears a contact in his left eye. Since he is only six the doctor recommended for us to take him in monthly to switch out his contact so that we won't struggle at home. He does this free of complaint or attitude. My sons vision has improved to 20/80 since we first started! I'm so grateful for this doctor and his brother. read more

I just went here this morning. I've been looking for an Orange County optometrist for a while, and haven't really had the time to do any research myself. This is where Yelp came in -- I looked in the Fullerton area, and based on the reviews Sunrise Optometry got, I decided to try it. I've worn glasses for 10 years, and this was honestly the most pleasant optometrist experience I've ever had! They were quick, efficient, and extremely nice. I didn't even have an appointment, and the whole thing took less than an hour. During the eye exam, I started flinching when the doctor got too close to my eyes -- not his problem, just a sudden anxiety I had about eyeballs -- and he didn't press on. Instead, he used another, gentler method to test that area of my eye, and he didn't get frustrated at all. Then when I went to pick my frames, they helped me out so much! They offered frame after frame, offering honest advice and pointing out the pros and cons of each style. They were very knowledgeable about glasses brands and the latest glasses trends. After a thorough search, they helped me find the perfect pair of glasses right within my price rage. So, yeah. Dr. Kim and his staff run a tight + friendly operation. Highly recommended. read more

I'm so excited to finally find an optometrist that I love. My son and I have both been to this office. I highly recommend him to your family, too. My work hours are difficult...they are open late. I have even dropped in and they were able to accommodate me. Unheard of! I need a provider that accepts VSP...they helped me maximize my budget and utilize my insurance. I've been over corrected by many other optometrist causing me to have to wear reading glasses at my computer and while using my cell phone. This doctor has gotten rid of that for me. For three weeks I've been trying different combinations of optical prescriptions until we had it right for distance and close up. I've tested 2 different types of lenses this month to dial in the best option for me. I was fit with the most stylish pair of glass I've ever owned...and they had them back from the lab in nearly 24 hours. Talk about patient centric service! Bravo! I appreciate their time and consideration on such a level that writing a yelp review is the minimum I could do to let my neighbors know that this is the place to go for all things optical. Dr. Kim is awesome! I found his office by luck 3 years ago and am glad I did. I've been in glasses/contacts for more then 10 years and finding a good eye Dr. and office that doesn't take advantage of your wallet is hard to come by! Last week I was in desperate need of contacts. My RX had expired and knew I wouldn't have time to see him prior to a big event that weekend. He gave me a pair of trail contacts to hold me over for the weekend and get to my next appointment. Amazing service!! My younger sister is now a patient, they have repaired multiple frames for my mother and they take good care of her as well. Last year, I went here to get my annual eye exam because I was dating this schmuck from OC and was in the area. It was actually a very positive experience. They accepted my insurance and had the designer frames I was looking for. Actually, I was hoping for Chanel frames... but then came to realize that Chanel's frames were made for anorexic people with tiny faces. I am not they. But, this year they seem to have a better line, and I am significantly less fat... so maybe I'll try again. Although, I did get my current Prada frames there, and they have been complimented many, many times.... by women and perverted men with secretary fetishes. Another good thing about this office is that their little puff of air machine isn't so bad. I live in fear of this part of the eye exam... air being shot at my eyeball. With their machine, I barely felt it. So, in summary... good selection of fancy frames, less terror, quick turnaround on frames and contact lenses, and insurance accepted. I've been to many other optometrists and none have explain to me clearly what is being done and why it is being done while at the same time trying to save me money. This is my second visit to Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim is very professional and knowledgeable. Brian was also very helpful and patient when it came time for me to choose my frame. Brian did not push me to buy the most expensive frames, he was actually trying to pick frames that fit my face and that were less expensive.
