In every instance, we've been absolutely impressed with Dr. Chao's team of professional, knowledgeable, and kind staff members. In 9/2020, I went to get a consultation about Lasik vs. PRK surgery with Dr. Chao. He patiently walked me through the relative advantages of each procedure and which was the right one for me. My PRK procedure (10/2020) was incredibly smooth; some of my friends had less than ideal experiences with other practitioners, but I'm happy to report my procedure and recovery process went perfectly. Dr. Chao and his team did an amazing job of caring for me, carefully explaining what I should expect, and always making me feel like I was being treated with the highest level of expertise. At 41, I've started to think that advancements in eye correction technology are much more promising than what has been available in the past. Surgery can be a daunting experience, especially when it involves your eyes. However, I encourage you to try the "Evo ICL" it's safe and has improved since last year. One of the best parts about this procedure is that if you're not satisfied with the results, or if a better option comes along, you can reverse the treatment. So, there's really no major risk if it doesn't work out. I qualified for the "Evo" ICL, and while I had my doubts at first, I've learned that patience is key when adjusting to a new way of seeing. Along with eye drops to aid the healing process, I found that after about three months, my eyes began to coordinate and adjust. What was once a constant dependency on glasses is now improving, and I'm starting to feel more normal without them. It's funny; I still find myself touching my face to lift imaginary glasses that no longer exist--it's just a habit! I highly recommend this option to anyone who wants to change their vision, whether it's for practical reasons, like gaming without glasses or to keep up with future technologies like AI glasses. From my first visit to the office which was the same day as my consultation things ran smoothly. My next visit to the office was the day of the surgery and everything I read on yelp and online about the surgery and recovery process was pretty true to form. The follow up went smoothly as well. My only issue is actually with the cost of the procedure. Now, it is important to note that I only got a pair of eyeballs and if I'm going to have some lasers open up some slits to my corneas, then I want to go somewhere I can trust and am willing to pay more for higher quality. I was quoted at a price which I thought was fair. At this point I referenced a Groupon that was available from their Riverside office. Minutes later, I was given a different price that matched the Groupon but had a slightly higher price since it was SMILE versus LASIK. This was good news for me as I had lowered the price of my surgery, but left a slight question in my mind as it seems like pricing can be quite arbitrary and had I not done my research before, I would have had to pay more. I thought this was something I would expect with going to a dealership to buy a car, but not something like getting a surgery. So I guess if there is a helpful tip, do your research before and there's a chance you can get the same procedure at a lower cost too.

The receptionist did tell me that I needed to change my appointment because it landed on a Friday. So I told her I'd call back after I reviewed my calendar. I was fortunate that I was going to be down in the OC area to have a get together dinner. So I called back to officially change my appointment to a Tuesday. I got the low down from the office manager at AFEC about Mike's move. But I won't spill it here. I hope Dr. Mike is happy with his new place. I'll definitely give AFEC a review as well in October.

I got an email saying they'd ship out July 15, so I called on the 16th to get an eta and they said WITH CERTAINTY, they'd be in within a few days. Well it's been more than a few days. I even doubted the person I was talking to but she seemed positive. Come to find out, they don't actually get arrival times, so.... After my first consultation, I was confident that I was in good hands; and within two weeks I was in the operating room after being cleared by both the Ophthalmologist and Optometrist for PRK--which is a bit more safe but tedious in recovery compared to LASIK. The entire staff are very accommodating, meticulous and pleasant to talk to. I called in countless times before committing and always had my questions thoroughly answered by Marvin. Leslie from the front desk always makes me feel at home when I step into the institute. I never felt pressured by Dr. Pham or Dr. Huynh to proceed with treatment, even though they took an abundance of tests on my eyes and clearly explained the risks and rewards of PRK--all before I even paid! When I went in for a consult, I was unfortunately not a good candidate for LASIK. Dr. Feinerman suggested another procedure called EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) that I was a good fit for. Despite the higher cost compared to LASIK, I was totally on board. I scheduled my surgery appointment afterwards and I was given instructions on how to prepare for the procedure (I had to put eye drops in beforehand). The surgery center Dr. Feinerman used was in Tustin (Barranca Surgery Center). I had a very early appointment and I didn't have to wait too long. The procedure took what felt like 10 minutes, but could have been way longer (the anesthesia worked like a charm!). I had my sister drive me home, there is no way you should try to drive yourself home after getting this done!! Immediately after the surgery, my vision had a noticeable improvement, with sensitivity to light. Over the next 3 months, my vision stabilized and I don't have dry eyes as often anymore. Dr. Feinerman and his entire team were a pleasure to interact with. Totally recommend this place!!
