My family and I have been seeing Dr. Chao and his team for many years at both the Irvine and Fullerton locations - they are simply outstanding. In the past, we've done cataract surgery (for my dad), routine checkups, and most recently for myself, PRK surgery. In every instance, we've been absolutely impressed with Dr. Chao's team of professional, knowledgeable, and kind staff members. In 9/2020, I went to get a consultation about Lasik vs. PRK surgery with Dr. Chao. He patiently walked me through the relative advantages of each procedure and which was the right one for me. My PRK procedure (10/2020) was incredibly smooth; some of my friends had less than ideal experiences with other practitioners, but I'm happy to report my procedure and recovery process went perfectly. Dr. Chao and his team did an amazing job of caring for me, carefully explaining what I should expect, and always making me feel like I was being treated with the highest level of expertise. I just came in for my three-month follow-up and could not be happier I decided to work with Dr. Chao. It's rare to find such a wonderful team of medical professionals. I genuinely enjoy coming in to see Dr. Chao! My advice is to listen to the onslaught of five-star reviews (especially those from people who actually work in healthcare) and book an appointment with Dr. Chao's office. Don't go anywhere else - this is the type of care we should get from every single doctor.

As a pediatric general dentist, I'm seeing 40-80 kids a day - to say my vision is critical is an understatement, and I'd only be trusting my eyes to the best. LASIK has completely changed my daily clinical and non-clinical life, and even 5 or so years after my original surgery date, easily remains one of the best health related expenses I've ever done. For those of you interested in the academic side of things, Dr. Zhu is well credentialed - a Harvard graduated MD, with Ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute / USC & Los Angeles County Medical Center. Her fellowship was at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. As if that's not enough, she still does research and mentors upcoming residents. This level of training and active commitment to the medical community as a whole speaks volumes to the caliber of clinician that Dr. Zhu is and aspires to build unto others. Non-academically, Dr. Zhu herself is incredibly personable, and shows an unwavering commitment to her patients - even years later, she personally follows up me multiple times, and is as interested in my own vision outcomes as I am. She is thorough, detail-oriented, and can confidently convey the same depth and breath of knowledge to her patients. Due to my correction being borderline for the limits of LASIK, all contingencies were planned for to ensure excellent outcomes. Even years later, I have not had a single post-op complication, including zero days of dry eyes. Dr. Zhu is an amazing eye surgeon, and more importantly, an awesome human being. I'm absolutely ecstatic about the care I've received, and cannot recommend Dr. Zhu any more highly.

Dr. Zhu is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attentive. She took the time to thoroughly explain my eye condition and walked me through all of my treatment options in a way that was easy to understand. I never felt rushed, and she answered every question with genuine care and professionalism. What really stood out was her attention to detail and how comfortable she made me feel throughout the exam. It's clear she truly cares about her patients and takes pride in delivering top-quality eye care. Her expertise and calm demeanor immediately put me at ease. If you're looking for an ophthalmologist who is skilled, compassionate, and takes the time to provide personalized care, I highly recommend Dr. Dagny Zhu. I'm grateful to have found such a trustworthy eye doctor and will definitely continue coming here for my eye care needs!

The office assistant escorted us to get the eye images and screening questions done. When asked about current medications, I replied that we only administer Advil or Motrin for fevers and pain, and she didn't ask any follow-up questions. Instead, she led us back to the exam room to wait for the doctor. As soon as we entered the room, my daughter dropped her belongings and dove into playing with her slime. The doctor walked in just as my daughter was reaching for tissues to wipe off excess hand sanitizer. The doctor's expression was puzzling - I couldn't tell if it was her natural demeanor or a look of distaste. "Oh, I heard your daughter is sick," she said, and I confirmed, "Yes, she was, last week". Given her medical expertise and credentials I expected more in-depth questioning. Instead, it seemed like she relied on assumptions rather than gathering thorough information about my daughter's medical history. It was surprising that she didn't take the opportunity to ask more questions and gather useful insights before or during our visit. She just looked at my daughter and told her "yeah, you look miserable" I was taken aback when the doctor said those exact words to my 12-year-old daughter. Her choice of words was not only unprofessional but also potentially damaging to a young and impressionable mind. It made me wonder how healthcare professionals in this office speak about patients when they're not within earshot. So I questioned her "what?? miserable? how can you tell her that. You have poor choice of words". And she said "well she doesn't look very well" and tried to rephrase it in other ways and started giving me the definition of miserable. I was appalled when the doctor offered to see my daughter another day. Why would I subject my child to a healthcare "professional" who lacks empathy and basic diagnostic skills? The doctor's failure to ask fundamental questions about allergies, medical history, and symptoms was staggering. Instead, she made assumptions based on a single observation - my daughter grabbing tissues. Her incompetence was alarming, and I wouldn't trust her to provide adequate care for my daughter or anyone in my family. Now I wonder, if other people knew, would they trust her to treat and diagnose their vision? Witnessing a healthcare professional in a white coat behave so unprofessionally was extremely upsetting. What's worse, instead of apologizing directly to my daughter for her hurtful comment, the doctor downplayed the situation by offering a casual invitation to return another time. Her lack of accountability and empathy was appalling, and ignoring my daughter's feelings only added to the harm. A simple acknowledgment and apology would have gone a long way in resolving the issue. Instead, her indifference compelled me to share our distressing experience, serving as a cautionary tale about the importance of empathy in healthcare. After declining her services, I walked out of the office. As I was walking to my car, I realized I needed to return for a doctor's note for my daughter's school. When I went back, it was clear that the doctor was gossiping with the front desk staff about our encounter. 5-7 people huddled in the front desk, like Jesus! you couldn't wait until I left the parking lot at least? The unprofessionalism was staggering - but not surprising; instead of reflecting on her behavior, she was sharing our personal business with others. So much for privacy rights.

Everyone is friendly from the time you are greeted to each of the stations you go to before you see time with the Doctor. I have not had to wait more than 10 minutes between stations except when waiting for my eyes to dilate. Dr. Mosier had reviewed my records before we met. She indeed does not like to be questions but I get it since reading stuff on the internet does not make us experts. If you follow her recommendations, dry eye really can be managed. The doc tends to run late but I think it is because she will sit with patients until ALL of their questions are answered. She really does care. I've seen the optometrist there as well and again, runs a tad late but will sit with you until all of your questions are answered. She encouraged but did not pressure me at all to purchase glasses from the office. I've had multiple experiences with tech, Jamie and she is top notch. So friendly and warm. She is also very knowledgeable and really helps patients out. She kept me up to date on my preauthorizations so I didn't have to chase down answers. She is also certified to do the Lipiflow and she made sure I was very comfortable for the entire 15 minutes. Some of the front desk staff and techs are really rude so be prepared for that. They act like your presence is a huge inconvenience to their existence. Plenty of free parking in this lot too.
