This place has a great chef(s). The food exceeds all expectations and they are able to do a lot of very different things well. Favorites: Ranchero Nest, fresh squeezed OJ, Crab Cake Benedict, Pulled Pork Torta and the fact that they have Cholula hot sauce on the table. They have several specials every day and the waitresses are always describing how delicious they are and I believe them. I need to keep going back to try more food. My husband and I went yday for the first time for a private party. The food was really, really very, very good!. The selection was....beef tenderloin, tilapia and a chicken dish. The chicken soup starter was filled with wonderful fresh veggies. The salad came wrapped in a cucumber slice. I had the tilapia which was really well seasoned with a wonderful sauce. My husband had the beef which was cooked perfectly. The presentation of these dishes is similar to that of which you would see at much pricier downtown restaurants. We have been waiting over 45 minutes for our breakfast (which may or may not end up being great). They are filling a take-out order- I have seen about 30 boxes so far, and in the mean time, they have not made a single meal for anyone in the restaurant. The staff are so busy bagging and boxing all the take-out orders that they aren't even offering coffee refills. Currently, all the tables are full of customers and no one has food. I hope these take-out orders aren't a regular occurrence for the customers who dine in, but because of today, I will not be returning. I feel bad for the waitresses. This is not their fault and now their tips are going to suffer. read more

Had an excellent breakfast here this morning. First thing I noticed was how small the coffee cup was and thought this is not gonna work for me. I drink coffee as quickly as water, but I have to say the cup was never empty for more than a minute. The cheese omelet and hash browns were really good and very reasonably priced. There are many hotels in the area with chain restaurants attached or nearby, it's nice to have a smaller place like this within walking distance. Beats Ihop any day! read more

The food was amazing. I had ordered takeout and by the time I got home it was still really hot. The pancakes were great and my burger I ordered for later in the day was good to. The waitress was extremely friendly and the food didnt even take long to cook. Very few places ask how I would like my burger prepared so I was happy about that. The room seemed pretty full every time I have been there and most of the people are regulars who are known by name. Even an order taken over the phone while i was waiting was recognized immediately by name. My only complaint is that I did check in on yelp and was supposed to receive a free flan... which I was really looking forward to because I love flan. I showed the waitress right before paying my bill but I never got it packed in my togo bag. Sad story, i know. But the food was great anyway. read more

The Sunrise Grill was a first for me. I found it on yelp while I was at a hotel with some of my friends after prom. We were so hungry from the previous evening but didn't have much money on us, thinking we would eat the breakfast at the hotel. The Sunrise Grill caught my attention because it had only one dollar sign and it was four stars with over 100 reviews. Me and my group of girls arrived around 11am, it wasn't far from our location at all and very easy to find parking although it was mother's day and packed. When we walked in, no one seated us right away and being my first time I wasn't sure if it was a seat yourself type of place or not. Turns out it wasn't. There were two people ahead of me who walked in first and once they checked in I was at the front desk. I asked for a table of six. The lady said it would be a long wait being there were 4 groups ahead of me. I knew one of my friends had to be home by 2 so I asked if they wanted to go somewhere else but then the kind lady at the front said that she could seat us right away which was a bonus because I don't have that much patience. The waiter came within one minute bringing waters and menus, she was very prompt. The girls and I were surprised with the menu because it was full of appetizing meals. I didn't know what I should choose because it wasn't sure if I wanted spicy or sweet. I ended up getting a Chorizo omelet and the waitress said I could get a side of french toast which was very desirable because I got both sweet and spicy. The food took a while to come out and I started getting hangry because I was waiting to eat but when it did come out, it was absolutely delicious. The eggs were fully cooked and the omelet was filled with vegetables and the chorizo, it wasn't space or empty at all. They were slightly bland though but with a little salt, pepper, and hot sauce I nearly finished the entire thing! The french toast was very tasty too. They weren't soggy or burnt a perfect amount of golden crisp. I think there was cinnamon in the batter too because I sensed a hint of it. I loved it. After brunch was finished, I was stuffed I couldn't even fit water in my stomach. The checks couldn't be separated but the waitress put the totals for each meal ordered on the side of sheet so it was a very easy split to pay for what you bought. I payed for three people and the total was still less than $30. I was stuffed like a turkey so I sat for a couple minutes before leaving. While I sat, I noticed there was a lot of flowers around and I thought that it was so adorable. When groups of families were leaving the waiter or waitress would give it out to each mother being it was Mother's day. Even at the front desk it seemed like everyone was very close because there was a huge bouquet of flowers and in it was a card that said "Maria". To touch briefly on the environment of the diner, It was busy and there was a lot of people there. The walls were kind of dark but the natural lighting from the outside made up for it. Above the front desk is a painted mural that says, "Sunrise", which I thought was super unique. The walls had paintings hung as well as some iron artwork that was kinda intriguing because they were cool patterns. It didn't smell like anything I could remember, just food. read more

A Great Find!!!! The short ribs are to die for; served on a wine reduction, fall-off-the-bone tender. Absolutely delicious. I've had dreams about them since we were there. Husband had the pot roast and it was equally as good. Portions are "normal size" not enormous like so many mediocre restaurants. Sept. 9th I used my Groupon thirty dollars off for dinner! YUCKSVILLE!! My girlfriend ordered a sirloin steak. When the waitress arrived the steak was about the size of small napkin!. Not to mention the dollop of rice served with the steak. The size of the rice size was so tiny she could barely see the rice on her fork! My entree was service with a salad so small and scanty, the one cucumber slice was bigger than the three pieces served as a salad. Not even enough to feed a small rabbit!. Service consequently was as lousy as the meal! However, Sunset Grill was located near a busy liquor store, appearing to selling alcohol to underage sixteen or seventeen age male teenager's. Wow, just imagine cocktails with dinner compliment's of their liquor neighbor next door! My experience at Sunset Grill Sept. 9 2015 topped my list of lousy restaurants. I do not under their high rating! Cocktails anyone?. Despite the glowing reviews of Sunset Grill please take my advice and avoid, their are much better quality restaurants than this dump! read more

My husband and I love going out for breakfast on the weekend. We've tried all of the Park Ridge places, and even venture out to other suburbs -- we were delighted to find Sunrise Grill -- the omelet was delicious, perfectly cooked with FRESH vegetables, the hash browns were wonderful, NO onions and not greasy, the pancakes (I'm a pancake snob) were comparable to mine!!! The waitress was very pleasant and very proud of the cafe. All in all, a very nice and welcome experience and we will definitely go back. AND their prices are very realistic. read more

My experience with this place was unfortunate because so many people I know talked about how good it was and the reviews were good, so we were looking forward to trying it. We went there early Sunday afternoon for a late breakfast. When we walked in, nobody greeted us and we just stood there for a couple minutes not knowing whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Finally, a young girl came over and led us to a booth. The waitress came over and took out drink order. We ordered cokes and we were informed that they have, ugh, Pepsi. Strike one. We noted that the prices were very reasonable, which is always good. The food came out pretty quickly but the waitress didn't bring all of our stuff and I assumed she was going to get the rest, but instead she started chit chatting with the other girls behind the counter. We had no salt and pepper, no butter and syrup for our pancakes and I was missing my toast. We had to ask the bus boy to bring us everything else. To top things off there was a family with a bunch of kids and one of them was having a temper tantrum THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE EATING!!!! I know it's not the restaurant's fault but it just made the experience so much worse. The pancakes are delicious and the other food is pretty good - not the best omelet I've had, but decent. I've been here a few times with some co-workers. The food is satisfactory and ok for a diner in a strip mall. The only problem is the horrible service and wait time to get coffee and your food. The staff are very unprofessional and treat the regulars far better than the new customers. Their hours are bad and often times you pull up with the open sign there and the place is closed or they have private party. We go here once a week for breakfast and they consistently deliver great food and service! My kids say they have the best pancakes in the world, but I can only vouch for their omelettes and skillets; I have tried a few and they have all been delicious! My favorite though is the pesto green omelette with fresh avocado... Yum! I always ask for a side of their homemade pico de gallo as well. This restaurant from the outside looks like your everyday average strip mall breakfast and burger joint. Don't let that prevent you from trying out this marvelous little restaurant. It is difficult to pull off the feat of making a breakfast dish truly delicious and filling. Try the "hunter big boy Teddy" and you will understand. It's ham, bacon, sausage, onions , mushrooms and green peppers wrapped into a a mound of crispy hash browns and covered with a tasty sausage gravy. Delicious and filling and a great value too. I have also eaten dinner here. The beef stroganoff. Cubes of tender beef with a creamy orange paprika gravy. It looked good on the plate and tasted even better. Wished the portion was bigger but the quality of the dish made up for it. I would be willing to bet that the cook here has had some kind of chef training. Our neighbor is 100% Italian and she raves about the Chicken Parm here. Come to Sunrise and be pleasantly surprised about the great food. read more

Sunrise Grill and their other location in Mount Prospect, Sunrise Restaurant, both serve fresh great food at modest prices. The atmosphere is very casual, but the food is quality! These folks serve "real" food. I like a place that I can tell the cooking is from scratch. I have especially enjoyed the lambs shanks on the regular menu and the coconut tilapia on the specials. The tomatoe bisque is worth having every time. Luckily, you get good garlic bread (just like my Mom's homemade) every dinner you sit down for. The Grill is small and getting well known so awfully busy. The restuarant on Euclid has the same menu, also BYOB, and lot's of room. Guess where I'm going for dinner, now. read more
