Needed to find a quick lunch option in the neighborhood and found Sunrise Grill. We tend to gravitate towards the mom & pop family restaurants instead of the larger chains due to pricing and variety of food offered, so whenever there is one in the area we are at, that would be the easy choice when playing Russian Roulette in terms of restaurant selections. None of the lunch options appealed to me as they were mostly burgers and sandwiches so I chose to go with a breakfast skillet. I ordered the bacon skillet which came with mushrooms, onions, potatoes and an egg, and was surprised to find brocolli all over my skillet. I don't remember reading in the menu details that broccoli was an ingredient but I still went with it. No point in wasting food. The skillet did no have any bacon in it that I can taste but maybe because the brocolli was overpowering the taste of the bacon. There was a lot of broccoli in that skillet and I must admit that I guess I should have said something before I dove right in. My younger daughter seemed to enjoy her spaghetti though and the portion was large enough that we were able to take half of it home. Older daughter finished her grilled cheese and didn't really hear of any complaints. Hubbys meal, not picture here, was the quesadilla platter. He said it was pretty bland but I could neither deny nor confirm as I did not have a bite of it. Our server was pretty attentive but a little bit of a language barrier there which is probably what caused broccoli to be in my skillet. Arrived at Chicago Ohare Airport early morning and looked up local eats and this diner popped up. This diner did not disappoint! Service was friendly and fast. The ambiance was very family friendly. We were a party of 8 and we all order coffee or juice and our meal..We paid $132.00 which was amazing for the amount of food each meal came with. My omelet was extremely big but satisfying. It's been a while, but I returned here as part of our men's club lunch group and this place is a candidate to be the standing host venue. I'll go with 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars for my lunch today. The menu is huge here as are the serving sizes and the prices are very reasonable. In fact, they may possibly have the best value menu in our general area! I had their meat lovers omelette for $11 and that's a 4 egg omelette with two big pancakes and hash browns. Service was quick and efficient. The dining space is airy and comfortable though it is dated. Parking at lunch time was easy in their smallish strip mall parking lot, but do make sure to park in spots allowed for Sunrise Grill only, as the other presumably annoyed strip mall businesses do have the towing readily enforced I'm told. There is also some parking in the rear alley though you'll have to walk back around the building. Thumbs up for this good old school diner! read more

I ventured here after getting off work in the morning. This is a breakfast value spot with great menu prices. There is definitely a diner/grill feel to this place. I was seated at a booth and was offered coffee and drinks before ordering. I ordered an omelette, hash browns, and pancakes and they came out right away. I did enjoy the food, however it was a standard affair. After eating I did chill at the booth for awhile without worrying about being rushed out. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars isn't due to the food, the service is awful! On a consistent basis also. The staff blatantly have full blown conversations with each other or at customers tables for minutes at a time with the food in the service station waiting to be served. I've been a patron for years and I'm at my wits end with this. I'm considering leaving a quarter tip. read more

This is one of my favorite little restaurants and once you come here it will quickly become one of your favorite places too. The ambience is lacking but the chef, service and food are all great. My favorite dish is the beet salad with salmon - delicious! Anything that you order is guaranteed tasty and well prepared. If service matters to you, avoid Sunrise Grill. Their own website and physical doors have hours posted until 8pm, and they take your order and money online until then. However when we arrived at 7 to grab the carry out order the owner refused to engage with us claiming they closed at 2. I tried to show him the order on my phone through the glass (he wouldn't open the door and even discuss with us). I asked how we can get a refund and he said not his problem call the company. When I said we ordered through your website he said it feeds out to another one. However, when you go to the Toast website that helps their site facilitate the order it says you just work directly with Sunrise. I'm all for supporting local but not when local businesses do not care about or support the community they operate in. Forget Sunrise Grill and their mediocre food accompanied by disrespectful attitudes. read more

I really likes this breakfast spot near O'Hare. I came by before my flight home and it was great. It was pretty busy at 10:30 and I was a single but they quickly sat me at a table. The waitress was awesome. I had to decide between multiple dishes that looked appealing, so she told me her favorite was the chorizo Benedict and I wanted one of the special drinks. I was wary of the name but decided on the Baby girl. Food came out quick and everything was really good and cooked to perfection. The hollandaise sauce was delicious and the eggs cooked perfectly so when I broke the yolk it came pouting out. Hash browns were good but could have been cooked a little more crispy. I reviewed this place about two months ago, they have the waitresses do deliveries, today there was one girl working the floor (Hustling) while the manager sat at the counter, working on computer. I asked the busy girl, where the other waitress was-delivery. These girls should not do deliveries in their own car, their insurance will not cover them or the business. One of the "Owners" was there, I asked her if they had informed the Insurance company, to which she replied "Jose told them, they are covered." Hope they are.... We needed a breakfast spot near ohare for a friend who got stuck overnight and had a 2pm flight. Found this spot on Yelp and it didn't disappoint. Yes it's in a random small strip mall, but it's pretty great. First of all-free parking! I know it's the suburbs but still a plus for me. The food is good! Classic diner food and it was all very delicious. I ordered an meat lovers omelette that included hashbrowns and a side of pancakes. My husband ordered the #3 special. I'll be honest, I was too into my ow plate to notice what he ordered. But he was quite pleased too! The servings are really big and the prices aren't bad. There were ample tables available when we arrived. We were told we can pick anywhere we wanted to sit, and they brought us a high chair too. The wait staff we had was very nice, attentive and quick. Nothing Earth-shattering here. A regular-line Chicago "Greek", but with a bit more on the ball, it seems. Not a great curb appeal, but inside it was fine. Wife and I had Chicken Soup which was very very good. If the Soup is good, that's always a good sign. Our pal had a Club which looked great and was bounteous--he couldn't finish it. The soft drinks had a good "throw", the Coffee was excellent. The Service was efficient and personable. Not "destination dining" but if you're enroute to Ohare, or staying in one of the many nearby Hotels, this is a fine choice. read more

I like the food there. It's very good. I went there couple times for breakfast during the week, but the service needs to improve. I had to call someone fo coffee refill. The waiter didn't check if I needed more coffee or check if we were okay with the food etc. later the waiter was not around to ask for the check until I had to ask someone after 20 minutes or so. No waiters were around for at least 1/2 hr. That is the only inconvenience. read more

My best friend and I happened upon the Sunrise Grill en route to a garden center in Des Plaines. We were both hungry and wanted to stop somewhere close to the store. I saw the reviews and tantalizing photos and knew this was the place to go! Walking in, I was extremely impressed by how warm, relaxed and inviting the vibe was. It was homey and not pretentious in the slightest, and the smiles of the patrons indicated to me I had come across something truly remarkable. My friend and I sat in the adjoining room off to the left which was bright and cheery with beautiful, colorful paintings on the wall. My guest had a glass of sunny, freshly-squeezed orange juice (which she informed me was terrific!), and I had a robust, fragrant black coffee which was excellent. Anyone who knows me knows I am an eggs Benedict aficionado. Over the years, I have had countless numbers of them at restaurants, and they ranged from excellent to downright awful. But Sunrise Grill surprised the hell out of me!!! Usually, when one orders eggs Benedict, it comes with two poached eggs. Sunrise Grill serves it --- and get this! --- with THREE eggs! This is their norm! I know! Three eggs! I thought I was in eggs Benedict Paradise! The eggs were poached perfectly, the Canadian bacon was of superior quality, hearty English muffins toasted just right and the Hollandaise sauce was simply sublime with just the right touch of lemon. Hash browns were gold brown, buttery and utterly delicious. My friend had a classic Denver omelette with pancakes. She was impressed with everything! The omelette was fluffy and rich and filled with fresh, vibrant, succulent ham, peppers and onions. The pancakes were also a home run spectacularly prepared and full of flavor reminiscent of those made from scratch at home. Everything we ate had that "homemade" appeal, and yet there was something I picked up that gave our breakfast an elevated stance that can only come from a true culinary chef experienced in fine dining. And, sure enough, the owner, Chef Jose, worked at fine dining establishments in downtown Chicago. I knew there was something magical involved here. Other than phenomenal breakfast selections, they offer extensive lunch items including wow-factor sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads and amazing Mexican fare one is hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Chef Jose really puts his epicurean yet highly approachable skill to the best use for dinner. A virtual feast for the eyes and palate includes sumptuous French bone-in pork chops, 14oz strip steaks, Chicken Vesuvio, lobster spaetzle (can you imagine?), tropical salmon and Lake Superior White Fish Almondine! It's just mind-blowing! This is a dine-in Mount Olympus in Des Plaines! Chef Jose's classic training takes center stage here, and one can immediately tell everything served is meticulously well thought out, sourced and initiated. It's pure perfection. Chef Jose (a master Chef if ever there was one) and his wife Maria opened Sunrise Grill quite a few years back. It has always been a family-owned venture, and the love they and the staff put into it is simply overflowing. Of note, Chef Jose's wife, Maria --- who he affectionately calls "Baby Girl" ---- bravely fought and overcame breast cancer back in 2019. Sadly, as of February, 2024, Maria's cancer has returned causing her to undergo intensive, difficult treatments which has affected her ability to work the restaurant as often as she used to. Yet, the family and staff continue to support the fight against breast cancer and raise awareness wherever and whenever they can. This news has hit everyone so hard, and the effect has been devastating. Yet, the love the family and staff have for their customers is so genuine and so beautiful that it makes Sunrise Grill more than just a restaurant. It is a place to celebrate and appreciate life against so much adversity surrounded by good friends, family and the greatest food in the realization that we are all the strongest together.
