10/10 highly recommend! Today was my first visit to sunrise donuts, I came because I liked the yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. I walked in and was greeted by a man and women, there was two people ahead of me and two walked in behind me so I immediately knew I came to the right place. I asked for an assorted dozen and he gave me two extra, my total for the dozen was $19. What a deal, I will definitely be back and the donuts were 10/10! read more

This really makes me sad to write this review. This was my go to place for 12 years, but after the new ownership I can no longer go back. Prices are much higher which I can understand, but the disrespect I was given for simply being there was uncalled for. They did not welcome us in, or even acknowledge us. The owner turned her back, made a smoothie, her partner walks past us with earbuds in. She then makes rude gestures and says "what can I get you?" As if I'm inconveniencing her. I was astonished to say the least. I waited very patiently, and so did my children. We then asked for a bag as well as a box because one of my kids likes to take it to school and eat later. She gave me the meanest scowl, as she slapped it down on the box. I said "Have a nice day!" No response. Just wow. If these are the people who took over then I'll never be back. My children were the first ones to say something when I got in the car. My 14 year old says "Wow I never want to give them my business again!" Wise kid. Even he could tell the service was astonishingly bad. If you don't want customers, then close the doors for good. read more

I love their donuts however they need to follow state & county requirements that state masks are required. This place is too small to distance and everyone has to stand at the register in same spot to pay. I told the cashier she is supposed to refuse service to non mask wearers without a bonifide health exemption. No reply. Geez. We've been regulars for some time but not after today. The lady has always been extremely rude and short with us even though we come every week. Always seemed to be upcharged when we get the same thing every week the price is always different and she says "that's just what it is" when asked why it's different. Ya ever been to Atascadero? Well should you ever find yourself winding along the boring part of the 101 thru central Cali, You might want to try Atascadero. One of the many 'too big to be a village' places in California, Atascadero hosts a pretty normal looking donut shop. In one of several identical mini mall slots, just off the main drag, rests Sunrise Donuts. Not much to look at, as you enter the long, thin storefront, there are tables and chairs on one side, of the ice cream parlor variety, and a long glass display case on the other. Every time I visit it always seems rather un-busy and easy to get your fix, take that VooDoo Doughnuts! Yet the employees always seem to be less than happy to serve the masses, like working at Sunrise was low on the list of things they wanted to do that day. It's not really sounding like I should be giving this place a four out of five stars, is it? A donut shop is only as good as its product and what Sunrise lacks in atmosphere and curb appeal, it more than makes up for in delicious donuts. Nothing fancy here, you won't find bacon maple bars, or Texas size donuts filled with jam, Sunrise is old school. They keep it pretty simple and do it right. Cake donuts with sprinkles, maple bars even a French cruller or two, that's what you'll find behind their curved glass display. I've even come to get a dozen at the end of the day, the donuts are still fantastic. They are just the right amount of sweet, well made (fried) and always fresh. You'll find a lightness in the Sunrise donut that doesn't usually happen at such places. Atascadero may be little more than a town, but Sunrise puts out big city donuts. Delicious. Haven't tried them in awhile so thought why not try them again? Got a dozen of donuts, a coffee, an orange juice and a Snapple for about $18. The donut selection at 11:30 was meh, but that was kind of expected, it being almost noon. The texture of the donuts were good but the taste was just okay. Almost all of the donuts I tried left a waxy aftertaste on the roof of my mouth- not pleasurable. The raised donuts tasted better than the cake donuts but all of them in all were okay. This donut shop is spectacular. We were visiting the area and came every single day. We are not donut junkies but these were so good that we kept coming back. Get there early to beat the crowds, and to have the best selection. The owners were so wonderful they remembered our order after the first few days. A dozen is so cheap and what we ordered every visit. Also off menu I ordered a side of bacon every time. The bacon was so crispy and delicious. Definitely stop here if you are looking for friendly fast service which delicious, addictive and affordable donuts. So worth the drive every day. We'll miss Sunrise. Love the smell when you walk in. There was nothing better then the smell of the donuts. they had A LOT to choose from. Their Jalapeno Ham and Cheese is yummy yummy have them warm it for you. Tried and true. Atascadero's best donut shop. Their donuts are great (and best prices) but I REALLY love their croissants and biscuits & gravy. I come here like once a week. I recommend the Ham & Cheese Croissant. Massive croissant, melty cheese, and high quality ham. It's kind of like a homemade breakfast hot pocket in the best way. My only complaint, is why the owner allows the retired local customers (men) to walk behind the counter and reach their grubby hands in to grab a donut. I'm all OK with food being handled by staff and workers, but honestly grandpa, I have no idea where your hands have been. The donuts are absolutely amazing here! My fiance grew up in Atascadero and took me to this donut shop one day. The donuts we ordered came out fresh and still warm, and we shared them over a cup of their half hot chocolate/half coffee (it was special-ordered by us). The staff here is super sweet and friendly and they sell their donuts fast! There is a large selection to choose from with different fillings, toppings, etc. I loved the cruelle that I had as well as my fiance's chocolate-glazed donut.
