We found this cafe as we were on the hunt for a cheap, greasy, quick, delicious breakfast sandwich. The huge group of construction workers eating and leaving this place told us it was exactly what we wanted. The prices are good, especially for DC. The food is five star quality for greasy deliciousness. I ordered a croissant with a scrambled egg, cheese, bacon, and hash brown patty. It was amazing. Definitely recommend--the hash brown really brought the sandwich together. My partner ordered what they said was the most popular item: steak and cheese with fries and a can. It really hit the spot. We are not locals, but I highly recommend this place to people not in the mood for fancy brunches, to spend a lot of money, or to sit down and eat (there is an eating area, but it is very tiny). read more

Finally checked out this little place. I had an egg and bacon burrito. It was good. This place is small for take out only. There is outside seating. When I was there a group of tourists ate outside on a nice morning. They seem to have regular customers. Great for getting your breakfast pretty quickly. read more

Grabbed a quick breakfast from here one morning and this is your typical quick stop breakfast type place. I like ordering from these types of spots because the food is made to order and for the most part they can't mess your meal up. I placed my order over the phone and walked over to pick it up and by the time I arrived they had my meal ready! I had the Greek omelet and homefries as my side. Pretty typical Greek omelet and the homefries were pretty good. The meal was tasty, everything was really fresh and seasoned well. The pricing was really inexpensive, like less than $9 for my entire meal and the woman working the register was so friendly and accommodating. She gave me so much extra hot sauce and condiments because I'm a condiment gyal. Overall cool lil spot to grab breakfast if you're in the area. read more

My husband and I were quite fooled by the 4 star reviews and decided to try them out while visiting DC...disappointed! This place is the size of a closet, very tiny. Anyway, my husband ordered the pancakes, home fries, and scrambled eggs. I ordered a sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. And added a hash brown patty on the side. First off, a slice of my bacon was gray and looked old. I didn't eat that. And my hash brown patty wasn't even cooked! It was a frozen patty that was ice cold! They didn't even bother to heat it up! My hotel was only 2 blocks away and I know it couldn't have gotten that cold from the short walk. This place is a complete joke! My husband wasn't happy with his food either. Never again. read more

Absolutely the best little hole in the wall! The pancakes were perfectly crispy on the edges and light and fluffy on the inside! Glad we stumbled upon this! read more

Simple, casual, fast breakfast food. My sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich was large for $5. They also had a good selection for lunch, including deli sandwiches, pastas, and breakfast all day. Cashier was friendly and efficient. There are a few stools for eating there if you'd like, but nearly everyone takes their food to go. read more

Best breakfast in town! Go early because they are always busy. It is well worth the wait.

They have a little bit of everything. Quick to order service. Food was on par and freshly prepared. Small area inside to order. Outside seating is plenty read more

Excellent service, bagel with egg and cheese was delicious and so was the egg platter! Inside it's crammed but there is nice seating outside. read more

Very small space with counter-type service from a very friendly staff. Maybe ten stools inside along the glass window with five tables outside. Ordered the Spanish omelette, which consisted of sliced ham and cheddar cheese wrapped in fluffy light eggs (see pic). With toast and a side of home fries and coffee, the whole meal was about $10. What a bargain. Recommend giving them a try read more

Nice little mom and pop/bodega. Great value.

Love this place! I have been getting food here since I moved to DC (20 years ago). This little hole in the wall has the best food. It is fresh. The BBQ chicken is amazing! Can't believe this little place survived the pandemic. It is a small locally owned business as well. Unlike most of the other quick eats in DC now, which are chain restaurants. read more

Can I give this place 10 stars? It's very small and the lines can be long a certain times but I promise it's worth the wait. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I've been here multiple times -- had friendly service and good food every single time. But not today... maybe it's my fault for not going at my usual time (morning). I went in the afternoon to satisfy my craving for a breakfast sandwich. All was well until I got back to my desk at the office and thought there was no cheese. I thought to myself: "no no no there must be cheese, I definitely ordered cheese. I found it. 1/4 of a square melted into the bottom corner of my croissant... needless to say, I will not be going if it isn't during the morning rush that alone is surprising since usually the rush makes it more likely for an order to go wrong. It was definitely not even busy today. The run down: -1 star for my lack of cheese (lack of adequate/normal amount?) -1 more because it isn't my first time and I KNOW what their food is supposed to look like. Also they didn't use any mayo or butter? Usually they do. I just want some quality control lmao read more

The breakfast was incredibly solid. The pancakes, eggs and bacon hit the spot. I returned the next day for a bacon egg and cheese croissant. Also good, but could've used another egg on it, even for an up-charge. The prices were very reasonable as well. read more

It's cheap and they give you a lot of food but I don't know about the 4-5 star ratings this place is getting. I expected the food to be lot tastier from all the great reviews. I ordered the mushroom & garlic pasta for lunch. It was just okay and definitely needed a bit more flavor. There's no garlic flavor at all and as a garlic lover, I was very disappointed. The garlic bread tasted stale too. I also thought it was pasta sauteed with mushrooms and garlic. It turns out it's just pasta with red sauce that they top with some mushrooms. If you want cheap but tasty food go to the National Geographic cafeteria across the street instead. Also, this place is really more of a take out place. They have a few counter seats but be warned you will probably smell like food if you eat inside. The ventilation inside is not the best. read more

I loved this place. My son and I would go for breakfast every morning we were in D.C. This place is small but they make really good food! For a good price. I wish they were able to stay open later in the day so I can try their lunch or dinner. read more

Or sure how it has 4 star reviews. Looks good on the outside but it is very dirty inside, the water they served us to drink, I watched them fill up from the sink in the kitchen, which is just not sanitary. Food had little flavor. Would never come here again. read more

Very good breakfast and the customer service is wonderful. I go there 2 to 3 times a week for breakfast

The Sunrise Cafe is one of those places where I have to say I was a little let down by my fellow Yelpers! The average of 4+ stars with so many reviews makes me think this is a must experience breakfast place. I love breakfast and wanted to see why this was so special. Well, it is not. Is it good? Absolutely! Is it 4+ stars good? No! There were a lot of construction workers in this tiny hole in the wall eatery which signaled two things to me; first, the food was well portioned for the price and second, service was fast. I was right on both accounts. The high volume gets your food to you fast which is always appreciated, but the quality is of 3 stars and not 4+. The eggs are just eggs and the home fries were a little underdone and as was the bacon which were both underwhelming. I can't say that I was actually surprised as that is what is expected for an establishment which thrives on high volume turnover for such a small establishment of primarily takeout customers. This is not to say that I wouldn't recommend Sunrise Cafe or even go back myself, it is just that I would give this 3 solid stars to level set expectations accordingly. read more

Wonderful little cafe! Delicious food! Get plenty of food for a very reasonable cost. Good deal for a cafe in the middle of Washington DC & 3 blocks from the White House. Looking for an unassuming local joint with more character than Pret a Manger, Au bon Pan and all of the rest of the typical chains? This is the place for you. First off, a warning, there is very limited seating inside and only 3-4 tables outside so you may want to plan on eating your food elsewhere which is not an issue with Farragut square a block from here. I had a vegetable omelette with toast and hashbrowns. Admittedly it would seem hard to screw that up but believe me plenty of nearby spots manage to do just that. The omelette was full of flavor and the potatoes had some nice seasoning to them as well. Overall for $8 I'll give this place my money over any of the aforementioned chains. I'll be trying the lunch here shortly and am looking forward to it as well. read more

My friend, who is regular at this place, took me here for breakfast. I took the spanish omelette - its an omelette with cheddar cheese, and some spicy salsa on top of that, served with potatoes and bread. I liked it a lot - the size of the dish was just about right, I didn't feel like it was too oily, and it was very tasty. In addition, it costs only $6.75! Pretty cheap for this area. The place itself is very small and simple, with few table inside and few tables outside. The owners is an old guy and both he and the girl who cooks are very nice. BTW - as I said - the place is very very simple, so don't come with expectations for a fancy-shmancy place :) But I think that they give a good value for your money. Enjoy :) read more

I'm going to just get right to the point: excellent breakfast sandwiches! They also have solid salads, but breakfast sandwiches here are typically great and made to order. I'm deducting a star because nothing here is high quality: it's unhealthy eggs and meats on toasted breads with cheese. The store front is tiny. And there are only a few places to sit. They have a great crowd of regulars and they remember orders for certain people. One guy doesn't even have to order, they just have his food ready as soon as they see him! If you are thinking about a big box restaurant, or one of the many chain coffee places, Sunrise is definitely better for food. At least get food here and then go sit at the other place with a coffee. That's a top tip! Another top tip: this breakfast is the cheapest one you'll find in the area. read more
