    Eggs and spicy hash
    Kim V.

We decided to get breakfast here on Monday morning. The place wasn't too packed. We got a booth and decided to order some coffee. The kitchen was an open kitchen and the diner was quaint. They had a pretty big parking lot. It appears it's a husband and wife owned joint. The man which I believe may be the owner and cook told us to sit anywhere. I decided to order two eggs, home fries-potatoes, and spicy hash. ($5) The eggs were over easy, the home fries were decent, and the spicy hash was not my thing. I decided to get adventurous and try hash, but I'm not a fan. It wasn't spicy and it was salty; I don't recommend it. The other menu items looked pretty good. I should've ordered than French toast I was eyeballing lol. The service was good, we had our coffees filled once. The food came out quick. Would I return? Sure. The meal was okay that's why I gave it a three stars, I'm sure their other menu items are better than the one I chose.

Me looking at the suspiciously runny eggs

We're visiting this week and looking local places to eat. This one came up in a search and didn't disappoint! Truly a local establishment where one patron asked for his "usual". Food was great and I even ordered something I wouldn't normally eat...eggs over easy (Sicilian Monk)...eggs Benedict with sautéed onions, sweet Italian sausage and marinara! Owner speaks fluent "Sarcasm" so be prepared would definitely eat here again!

A place to wake up A little breakfast place that is only open in the morning. Don't expect a gourmet menu. pretty much omelets and pancakes. However they do have a vast selection of omelets with just about every combination you can imagine. Peppers, onions, mushrooms. steak, you name it. They even have a pancake breakfast they call the Micky Mouse that has chocolate syrup on it. The service is very homey, friendly and attentive. One of the coolest thing about the Sunrise are the decorations on the wall. Old posters of Rocky Point amusement park and Oakland Beach. Articles about the hurricanes that hammered the area and neat old maps. Really adds an interesting home town feel to the place. The only negative is that it is small and very popular with the locals. Just a counter and a dozen or so tables. Can get very crowded and congested, especially in the summer or on weekends. That's all right because it is such a cool place that it is worth the wait.

Spicy hash and eggs over an English muffin with peppers, onions, and wilted spinach , topped with a balsamic reduction.

Bohemian Benedict! Got nervous after I ordered when I noticed it came with marinara sauce instead of hollendaise. It was sooooo good!

I also got a side of side of the Spicy Hash which the spiciness gave the hash a nice flavor and a little kick!

Upon arrival the room was at 68 (below 30 outside) soooo turned that sucker up. Put it on 74 and thought it would warm up overnight. Arrived pretty late, after 11pm. To my suppose the room was still at 68. And getting out of a warm bed to that was not my idea of a good morning. I called the front desk and the agent confirmed I was using the right thermostat to control the temp and noted that maintenance would check it. That was fixed as when I returned it was a nice balmy 76! Downside though was the unit did an odd cycling thing with warm air....cold air...warm air. So it never shut off at night and tan the entire time. Their drive way is odd, one way only and Tuesday morning there was a delivery truck blocking the exit. Thankfully no one else was behind us so we were able to back out. The room felt very industrial. Concrete walls and high ceilings, with an almost open concept bathroom. Barn door and the shower was a waterfall (over head) with hand held option thankfully. If you've got curtly hair, you know why a waterfall shower is the worst. And to ere was no shower cap as an option. The shower itself did not go all the way to the ceiling which also meant there was no barrier between you and the room. If share with a partner may not be bad but with friends, that's a nightmare. Other downside was the lock was funky. When leaving for dinner, thank goodness I checked the lock as it did not lock. I had to open the door and mess with it to finally lock. All in all decent hotel however I can't say I'd stay again.

When we arrived there was parking available and no wait, but by the time we left, the tables were pretty full as was the parking lot. The Cozy Grill is quite literally cozy inside... the menu features breakfast classics but also an impressive Benedicts menu. I'm a Benny girl through and through so this was very appealing to me. I tried their most popular option, the Fig, Prosciutto, and Goat Cheese. It sounds like a bizarre combination for Eggs Benny, but let me tell you, it really works! I was very happy with my choice. The home fries were also quite good. My friend had eggs and corned beef hash. She is a huge fan of corned beef hash and was really impressed by how it was served (more elegantly than is typical). I, never having had corned beef hash in my life, tasted hers and thought it was really good! All in all, I'm so glad I finally discovered this spot. I can see why it's so popular and can imagine much longer lines on the weekends. Arrive early for your best chances at parking :)

Be warned, it's on the more expensive side for dining and may be a coin toss for "is it worth it" for those that enjoy a night out but also looking for value. Food was a mixed bag for us.... Starting with the smashburger was genuinely disappointing as the burger itself was dry and advertised as a "French onion" smashburger that failed to deliver any of the rich, savory flavor we expected with a name like "French onion smashburger". The hot honey Mac and cheese was very good and flavorful... The hot being more of a vinegary heat than I expected but the cream sauce was rich. Speaking of value earlier.... Smashburger was $20 and the Mac and cheese was $28. Entrees were $10-15 more it seemed but previous reviews all spoke highly of the entrees and would want to try them if we visit again. The overall service experience was disappointing for us. Not for the demeanor of the staff but everything else... We had a decent size group of 8 (5 adults and 3 kids) and was fortunate to have a dining room to help the kids burn some energy while not bothering the other diners. However, from ordering to entrees to arrive was 45 very hungry minutes. It also took 20+ mins just to get drinks. Once the food arrived, they also were short two of the kids meals which was thankfully corrected quick. We then were somewhat "gently" being asked to wrap things up by 3 staff members in 10 mins making the rounds to clear plates and any to go containers. We all understand the business in the food industry and turning tables, and trust me, after an hour from arriving to food on the table we wanted to get home for bed time. However, really sours the experience and would not advocate going here with large groups.... Between the kitchen and staff I can't say you'd have a guaranteed good time.

Our server, Jenna, visited our table soon after we were seated and brought us water. We were waiting for other members of our party, and she never made us feel rushed or pressured. While waiting, we put in drink orders and the "Lavender Fields Forever" cocktail that I ordered (Rhodium Gin, lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, snap pea simple syrup) was so delicious, and garnished with a beautiful sprig of lavender flowers. We ordered two appetizers: Point Judith Calarmari and Corn Arepas. The calamari had too many tentacles and not enough rings for me, but the arepas were excellent. The cornmeal base was crispy and hot, and there was just the right amount of meat and toppings. For entrees, our group ordered the Chimichurri Grilled Chicken sandwich, The rigatoni with pink sauce and sausage with crispy chicken as an add on, the short ribs over mashed potatoes, the Wood-Grilled Bone-In Pork Chop, and the Rib Eye Steak. We all enjoyed our entrees. It is evident that Iron Works uses high quality ingredients and puts a great amount of care into the preparation fo their food. We split three desserts amongst the five of us: The flourless chocolate torte, the cheesecake, and the Banoffee Sundae. The flourless torte was rich and very chocolately, and the cheesecake was very good as well. I'm not a fan of bananas, so I didn;t try the Sundae, but the friend who ordered it enjoyed it. After dinner, we sat and chatted for awhile,, and we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. This was a very enjoyable evening in a great restaurant environment with delicious food.

Most egregious: the shrimp that came with the Caesar salad was POPCORN SHRIMP coated in SWEET-AND-SOUR sauce. I truly couldn't believe it. Why wouldn't the server at least warn me? To add insult to injury, my salad was overdressed and soggy. Also, the dressing was revolting. I don't mind anchovies for flavor, but the dressing tasted like an anchovy puree. I think it was maybe past its prime. I had one bite and couldn't continue. Inedible. And the fries. The parmesan truffle fries were drenched in mayonnaise??? I don't really care for mayo but I don't mind a drizzle or an aioli dipping sauce. However, the mayo to fry ratio was literally 2:1. I tried to wipe it off and it was still like a mayo-fry soup. Inedible. I took everything to go and just trashed it. I've NEVER done that before. This is a delayed review (meal was a few months ago) and I'm still rattled by how bad it was.
