This is a greasy spoon establishment with puntual table service and food for when you just want diner food. I had the two eggs scrambled with spicy hash. The waitress assuming I liked spicy food placed a bottle of siracha down when the food arrived in approximately 10 minutes. Most other places I have to beg for it. The decor reminds me of a down home breakfast diner with a very interesting fishing themed decor. Take the time to peruse the pictures and funny signs on the various walls. The coffee was typical diner coffee however it was reasonably fresh. The waitress refilled often and was pleasant. Homefries were the run of the mill lightly onion powdered pre frozen variety. It is not intended to be a dig at the place but it is the nature of the greasy spoon diner. If you are looking for a nice gourmet breakfast stay away. If you need a quick bite and to wake up then you shouldn't be disappointed. As a qualifier for a greasy spoon establishment in retrospect. If I can recognise SYSCO products by taste, and there is grease and plain white plates. It is a greasy spoon for me. All in all you get what you expect. Was looking for a place to get breakfast on the 4th and stumbled upon this place. At first glance it looks like the typical breakfast place with a counter and the open grill. I was with my girlfriend and we took a seat at the bar. The chef working the grill John, guessing he was the owner, was a machine and very entertaining to watch. The restaurant was full and he was the only person manning the grill. He was able to man the grill, gave us our setups and took our orders all while being courteous and greeting his other customers. Being someone who has worked in service it is always pleasing to see a person who can handle an overwhelming rush of customers while maintaining a cool and calm demeanor, while also being attentive. The wait for our food was very short and to say the least it was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Probably the worst breakfast experience I've had in a while. Took over ten minutes for the waitress to bring us our menus. Coffee tasted like it was brewed with dishwater. Hash was a pile of badly seasoned mush. Omelet was bland and way overcooked. Food took over 30 min to get to us. Food, 1 star. Service, half star. Breakfast was delicious and relatively inexpensive. So excited to find a local place that makes chourico and cheese omelets! Also very pleased that we were able to order just one (mickey mouse shaped) pancake for our 4-year-old for a couple of bucks instead of getting a whole stack that he wouldn't have eaten. I've been a regular at the Sunrise Café for 14 years. The meals are excellent. The owners personally shop at least 5 different sources for every item served. Their diced potato hash browns are never frozen; from source to plate. With the exception of two items "the weekend special" is different every weekend. 4th of July, strawberries, raspberries, blue berries and whipped cream toppings or Halloween to Thanksgiving, pumpkin pancakes. Their is the " marinated steak tips" that is available weekends as supplies last (this is their signature dish the meat eaters love; absolutely delicious). John takes advantage of his 4 year degree as a Culinary School graduate to create unique "breakfast specials" that are flavorful, every weekend. No two are the same throughout the year. Aside from the local lore decor, topical conversations are part of the early crowd locals. Participation is always welcomed by those who just listen wether local or new to the restaurant. The downside is payment. Sunrise Cafe is strictly cash. However, it keeps costs down (highly reasonable for a sit-down restaurant) and it gives them the flexibility to continue to offer the best quality control; good food that is reasonably priced. Two of us went for breakfast on Saturday morning. We were seated immediately and servers were efficient and friendly. The menu offered typical breakfast fare; nothing extraordinary and no specials but certainly adequate choices. The coffee was very weak and certainly not hot .. barely warm if u added milk. We both love eggs Benedict, Hurray they offered several varieties! The description said "eggs over spicy corned beef hash and spinach on a grilled English muffins topped with a light marinara sauce"not the usual hollandaise sauce. I asked for the sauce on the side. Both orders arrived quickly. The eggs sat atop two tiny hash patties and TWO wilted leaves of fresh spinach. The hash tasted like it was canned; definitely not fresh. The home fries were cold. The eggs were poached nicely. However they were about the size of a "hAlf dollar"and barely warm. Overall the food was very disappointing. The prices are cheap but the quality is poor. Venue - First impression was that the entrance and architectural landscaping on the adjacent patio made the cafe look modern on the exterior. Upon entering there was a counter top to sit at which faced the grill, about six booths around the perimeter of the one room with 3 tables in the center. Noticed dirty tables and booths that needed to be bussed when seated. Lots of Rocky Point and Oakland Beach memorabilia on the walls, also, old phonographs and radios littered the shelves randomly. None of the coffee mugs matched. None of the silverware either. To some that may be a cute motif, but here, it struck me as just cheap. Service - Waitress took our order and was not seen until we asked for the check. The cook came from behind the line to serve up our orders. When asked for hot sauce was given Sriracha... an intense Asian chili sauce. Definitely NOT the typical when enjoying a typical American breakfast. Where was the Red Hot? Tobasco? Fare - Nothing spectacular, the pancakes are a bit on the floury side. Did not have rye bread by mid morning. Average price and large portion size were discussed as positives in other reviews but there was nothing remarkable about the amount of food on the plate for its price point. Food was underseasoned. Overall - Definitely a Dive on the Triple D Scale. Reminds me of Grandma's, but she cooked better. read more

Used to go here. But the egg portions got smaller and smaller until the chicken became pigon size. The same goes with the potatoes, they went from a good spoon full down to a tablepoon ful. they may not have raised thier prices but they have made their portions smaller so that you get 50% less for the same price. Since my favorate girl left and I was surprised to not see her there on Saturday, they are now cut out. Time to find a place that does not skimp on the weekly regulars. read more

It's too bad that you can only give 5 stars to a restaurant. This has to be one of the best breakfast places I've ever eaten. Very friendly service a creative menu and everything is fresh fresh fresh. This is not a fancy place and they don't take charge cards. Not taking charge cards probably keeps the pricing down.
