Extremely disappointed with my omelet. I ordered the basic meat and cheese with no sides. I asked for bacon and asparagus...no cheese was in the omelet. Didn't even ask what kind I wanted. Finally said something to the waitress and she put a piece of cheese over the top and heated it in the microwave. Ordered a side of bacon, too. They gave me a dollar off for no hash browns. My total was 18.19 before tip. Way too high for what I got! Lost touch with reality. Enjoyed sitting and not being rushed! Probably won't be back! read more

It was right on Dewitt's Main Drag, 6th street, and without researching it before had I might've missed the opportunity to try this lovely breakfast all-day diner. Even though we didn't have breakfast items ordered, the pictures of turtle pancakes and Nutella stuffed French toast made my mouth water! I had the avocado chicken salad with ranch. And it came with a side! So I chose a wonderfully creamy & hearty chicken rice. My mom had the gyro salad with tzatziki sauce and a Greek vinaigrette. My dad had the beef & noodles, with a side salad and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were the real thing, gravy was thick & flavorful, tender cuts of beef and egg noodles topped the dish. We all decided when we meet halfway again, this will be our spot!!! They also have dinner specials on a white board & breakfast specials at the tables. read more

Today, around 1:30 we walked into the cleanest, friendliest restaurant in downtown Dewitt for a quick lunch. The servers and everyone that worked there were so friendly and attentive it was like stepping back into the old days where everyone cared about their customers. Everyone in my party of 6 commented on how much they enjoyed the atmosphere and especially the service and food. I had the special which was beef and noodles with a side salad and a drink. The food came very quickly and was served hot. I really couldn't believe how clean and well organized the cafe was from the seating area to the restrooms. I noticed also whenever the servers weren't attending to customers, they were wiping down windows and other surfaces to keep things immaculate. I also thought the menu prices were very reasonable for the amount of food they brought. I almost wish I lived closer to Dewitt so I could make this a regular go to place for eating, but will definitely visit again if I am ever in the area. read more

Oh my!! Happy we found this lovely mom & pop cafe that serves homemade breakfast! Very nice, clean, friendly, excellent service. Hash browns exceptionally good... always my "go to". Biscuits & gravy also very good! Ordered a cinnamon roll to go... its huge & looks great! Most definitely a place to come back to if we're ever in this area again!!! read more

Happy when I go to Sunrise, I just don't go enough. Eggs are always cooked right at breakfast and sandwiches at noon are on point. Lots of locals- people are good about visiting now, pretty much nobody wears a mask now. Not sure if it's Republicans or everyone just accepts the death rate. read more

Visiting DeWitt on business, we decided to visit a local cafe instead of patronizing the motel continental breakfast. Good decision! At 7:30 on a Tuesday morning, Sunrise Cafe had friendly, well-paced service, darned good coffee, and an older, taciturn male clientele. Our party of three had a Number 1 (two eggs, two pancakes, and sausage links); a Gyro Breakfast; and a 2-egg Breakfast with corned-beef hash substituted for ham, bacon, or sausage. All were delicious and kept us in a good mood for our business meeting. read more

They keep updating their menu options and participate in their community which is a positive in my book!! Best gyro omelette in the area! Good diner type food. The "vegetarian" review slamming Sunrise is hilarious. You're not going to get good vegetarian food at a diner in small town Iowa. It just isn't going to happen. What you will get is great breakfast food (their pancakes are awesome), a tasty burger, and the typical fair you expect at a small town diner. Sunrise does a good job serving up tasty food quickly for a good price. If you like small town diners, this is a quality one. read more

Went there this morning for breakfast, had the skillet and it was great! Service was friendly and fast and all the staff wore masks, (one server had it under her chin but the others wore it right). Masks aren't required here and there is only one table outside, things you should know if you're concerned about the Corona virus. We chose a table in the corner away from everyone and felt pretty safe. Portions are generous, we saved half for breakfast tomorrow. read more

This is a typical small town restaurant. And I don't say this in a bad way. Nothing on the menu will win national awards. But they serve good comfort food. Without having you empty out your wallet. The biggest negative I have is with the coffee. At times it can be bad. So if you've got a weak stomach be careful. Also being located in downtown DeWitt parking might be an issue. My husband and I go to this family café about once every two weeks. It has a friendly homestyle environment that we especially like and the service is wonderful! They do a good job of making sure all your needs are met and I think the variety of food choices is fine. I especially like the julieanne salad since its not mainly all lettuce like a lot of places are! Plenty of meat slices and boiled eggs add to the mix. Great food and wonderful service!!! We had travelled all night from Georgia to visit friends in the area and my grumpy husband was starving and needed a place to fill our bellies. This place did not disappoint! The menu had a great variety and the waitress was very welcoming. We visit Dewitt once a year and we will make this our new breakfast cafe from now on. I am so glad we found Sunrise Cafe, keep up the great job!!! See you next year! read more
