Veterans friendly with a great breakfast menu. Set at the counter and get that old dinner experience while enjoying a coffee.

Fits the bill perfectly. Dive diner with character and characters. Fresh coffee with a smile. The daily breakfast special is hard to beat for a great start to the day. Very professional cook at the griddle, eggs scrambled just right and hash browns are sublime.

To start, I gave Rock Anchor Grill a 2 out of 5 stars because it only meets expectations. Nothing bad, but everything was as expected and nothing wowed me. An alright hole in the wall. As you may have seen, the prices are incredibly reasonable for a broke college student. The diner environment and food quality are just okay. The service is great and they are very fast with their food service. However, the price represents the quality and taste. There is no wow factor or anything special where it wants me to keep going back, besides the low prices. If you want the dive-diner experience with low prices, then this is definitely the place for you. If you want a breakfast joint with more flavor and better ambiance, try another breakfast place.

    George's skillet is awesome

I had one of the best breakfast I've had in a while at this mom n' pop, or really, just a pop shop. It's a homey hole in the wall - that pays honor to those who have served in our country's military. The owner's own service history is proudly displayed on the wall - as well it should be! I ordered the George's skillet - it was a real treat. finely diced ham, bacon, onion, bellpepper all sauteed with hashbrowns and topped with 2 eggs any style. Really flavorful. The chef has some real knife skills because the dice was really awe-inspiring. Don't overlook this little joint. It may not be fancy, but it's pretty dang fulfilling.

I go here a few times a week. Nothing I can think of to complain about. Fast service, good food and a low price.

The bread and sides are generous and tasty. I have enough leftovers for at least one meal. The waitstaff are super friendly and we didn't feel rushed to leave. It was our first visit so we weren't sure what to expect. I now know you can expect: friendly service, reasonable prices, and good food. When you walk in the front door it is a little confusing. There is a gift shop, and the restaurant is past the gift shop; but the hostess stand is in the gift shop. You also pay your dinning bill at the gift shop counter. The gift shop got very congested, but it was not a big deal and won't impact my rating. We started with a cup of French Onion Soup. It was very good, they top it with some thin french fried onions which was a nice twist. It has been awhile since I've been in Iowa and I was craving a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. The sandwich was good but not up to Iowa standards. I'm accustomed to a breaded pork tenderloin that is pounded nice and thin and is way bigger than the bun. This was not pounded thin. It was a thick cut of meat. But, I repeat it was good. My fries were delicious. My wife had the Classic Burger and it was excellent. She said her sweet potato fries were good (I did not try them). Service is friendly, and prices are reasonable. One word of caution: If you are on a road-trip and hoping for a quick stop (as we were) be warned it won't be quick. Everything is made from scratch, which is great, but it definitely takes longer. If you are in Davenport and looking for good food at reasonable prices you might want to stop by The Machine Shed.

Several staffers made a point of pausing at our table to greet them. A homey, welcoming restaurant with what appeared to be many, many tables and booths filled with "regulars". Many servers and the hostess knew our pals and called each other by name! The breakfast menu is generally standard fare. But be prepared!! The portions are beyond generous. I wish that I had chosen to share with my spouse. (((Food waste is a thing.))) My husband ordered a low carb meal. Sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs. Zero carbs. He enjoyed every bite. Perfect I ordered the skillet with FOUR over easy eggs, fried breakfast potatoes, peppers, onions, tomatoes and diced ham. Had I better read the menu, I would have DEFINITELY shared it! But trust me. It was OUTSTANDING! Carol and Chet ordered omelets with pancakes. Seems like THE go-to for them. They were not disappointed. I observed that this gem is the place to savor good food, lots of good coffee, deep conversations and much love and laughter. I wish that WE had a similar place in Indy, MO.

I ordered the veggie fajitas and asked them to add chicken, because I wanted all the veggies (mushroom, onion, and green pepper) with my protein, and none of the fajita dishes had all of those veggies. I pointed to the item on the menu and explained what I wanted and why. I also ordered a cocktail. But... what came was a glob of red with shredded chicken and red sauce on top, which doesn't look like fajitas to me. I asked if this was the fajitas, and she said yes. I thought that maybe it was served differently here, and I figured I'd fine the veggies inside somewhere. I now realize (after looking up the menu online) that what I ate was the veggie enchilada meal, because it was potatoes wrapped in tortillas, and there were no or few veggies involved. My cocktail also didn't come, and we were half way through the meal before the wait staff, who was milling around because there were no other tables inside, made eye contact enough for us to ask for our waitress. She apologized, obviously forgot, and brought the cocktail. The potato enchiladas were tasty, but not what I wanted, so I'm disappointed. The service was clearly disappointing. But the setting and the chips and salsa were good. I'd go back for a drink and to sit outside.
