    a plate of breakfast food

I enjoy a delicious breakfast, quality time, and less-than-busy environment. All of those I didn't know I would get going to Nora's but I did! I had a great time eating at this restaurant. We were seating right away and were served immediately for our orders. Our waitresses seemed very adamate we order beverages other than water, and seemed kinda pushy to order which was an inconvenience, but were helpful in providing refills for our drinks. I wasn't feeling hungry when I first entered the place (due to devouring of thanksgiving food) but after consuming the bacon skillet with toast, I was quick to reconsider another meal. I talked myself out if it since my body needed a rest from all things food for a while. Overall, the food is cheap, of great quality, and served in a timely manner! Great place to eat!

Small local cafe that was absolutely charming. Excellent service. Delicious breakfast - I had the sausage skillet with over easy eggs and my friend had the steak skillet with scrambled eggs. Eggs were cooked exactly to order. I am here visiting but my friend said she'd definitely go back!

This is a hometown favorite. The food is delicious and the service is very quick. There is also a lot of bang for your buck. My only complaint is that our waitress was very sassy with us. I felt slightly judged and did not appreciate it. Would still highly recommend, hopefully your waitress is having a better day than ours was.

Classic diner breakfast, just what we were looking for. Eggs were done perfectly, and the cinnamon French toast was really tasty.

They changed the entrance from days of old but the interior is still cool. Service was top notch, not too creepy but there when needed. The food is ITALIAN! It is good- seriously good. Eat here if you want good food at a good value. Only complaint was the wine pour seemed a bit stingy.

The Ghost in the Machine: A Study in Youth and Enigmas at Rastrelli's…read moreIn the heart of Clinton, Iowa, Rastrelli's stands as a sprawling monument to local tradition, a place where the weight of history is palpable in every dining room. However, a recent visit suggests that while the walls remain steeped in heritage, the current operation is being steered by a remarkably green crew. The waitstaff and floor team are almost exclusively young, possessing an earnest but unpolished energy that seems to operate in a vacuum. Management was entirely invisible, a phantom presence that left the youthful staff to navigate the complexities of a large-scale dinner service without a seasoned captain at the helm. This lack of professional oversight leads to a breakdown in the basic choreography of service. The tables here are notably small, a logistical challenge that became apparent when steaming plates of hot pasta arrived while our salad trays still occupied the limited real estate. It is a fundamental error in pacing that a present manager would have corrected with a single glance. Furthermore, for a house that prides itself on its Italian roots, the absence of vinegar to accompany the olive oil for the bread was a curious and disappointing omission. The staffing model remains equally baffling. Our waitress seemed to be burdened with nearly every occupied table in the room. We were fortunate that the evening was not particularly busy; had the dining room been at capacity, the system surely would have buckled under the weight of such an uneven distribution of labor. The most surreal chapter of the evening, however, was the appearance of the "orange dish"--a neon-hued confection studded with marshmallows. When we sought clarification, the staff--notably, not the chef--explained that this enigmatic staple is prepared en masse every morning. It is a dish that feels like a spirited, mid-century potluck survivor, an orange enigma that remains the most bizarre part of the Rastrelli's experience. "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." -- Gustav Mahler Rastrelli's remains a cornerstone of the Clinton landscape, but the current fire seems to be flickering under the weight of an absent management and a disjointed service rhythm. While the youthful staff is to be commended for their effort, the establishment would benefit greatly from a steadying hand to guide the basics. The Biker's Bayou: Water, Whiskey, and Wild Abandon at Poppy's…read moreIn the rugged river-town landscape of Savanna, Illinois, Poppy's stands as a sprawling, high-octane oasis for the motorcycle faithful. It is an establishment that understands the primal appeal of the open road, offering a sensory experience that transitions seamlessly from the roar of a V-twin engine to the cool, unhurried current of a neighboring creek. This is a place where the grit of the highway meets the leisure of a backcountry swimming hole--a rare combination that invites patrons to trade their leather for a bikini and take a dip mid-afternoon. The setup is, by any metric, amazing. The decorations are not merely ornaments; they are a curated tribute to the fringe, creating a visual environment that is as immersive as it is rowdy. The music provides a relentless, high-energy pulse that matches the kinetic spirit of the crowd. It is a room that feels lived-in and unapologetic, a feeling underscored by a stark, pragmatic detail: the availability of Narcan. This silent sentinel on the premises tells you everything you need to know about the potential for excess here; it is a nod to the frontier reality of a destination where the revelry can--and often does--reach a fever pitch. The service staff lean into the time-honored aesthetic of the American roadhouse. The bartenders are a study in high-impact presentation, navigating the floor with meticulously applied makeup and a classic, provocative allure that complements the bar's high-frequency energy. They are the seasoned conductors of a beautifully chaotic symphony. As for the culinary offerings, the food is remarkably good for the genre--honest, heavy-duty fuel that satisfies the appetite without the burden of pretension. It is the kind of sustenance built for a long day of riding and an even longer evening of celebration. Poppy's is not a destination for the faint of heart or the lover of sterile comforts. It is a loud, proud, and watery sanctuary for those who live for the edge of the map. Whether you are there for the music, the memorabilia, or a cooling plunge in the creek, it is a quintessential stop on the Great River Road that delivers exactly what it promises: a wild, unrefined slice of freedom.
