Have been there a few times but we didn't care for the food, service or ambiance. Not for us.

On a trip to I always stopped at the State St., Café and the cute little town of Geneseo. We were very pleased to have lunch at the State St., Café. Our server was very good. Very kind and recommended a tasty lunch for my husband and myself the ambience was what was expected in a small town Café Which we really like as opposed to the chain restaurants. I took a little drive this morning to explore the back roads and found a pleasant little family-owned diner in downtown Geneseo. All of the wait staff were extremely friendly, polite, and accommodating, the environs were very clean and well-maintained. I ordered the Ham and Cheese Scone with choice of eggs and sausage gravy which was delicious! The scone was appropriately dense (as a proper scone should be), and the ham and cheddar cheese added depth and a savoury quality that really balanced out the entrée. The sausage gravy was obviously made from scratch, (unlike most restaurants these days), and had wonderful seasoning and a generous amount of sausage mixed in! Despite a fair distance, (30 miles), I will be sure to return soon to try out their other offerings! Thank you State Street Cafe for a fantastic breakfast (and a delicious dining alternative to the mediocre dining options offered here in Moline/ Rock Island)! I'll be back soon! read more

Everything I've had here is amazing! If your looking for a good salad they have an amazing Caesar salad! It's super garlicky. And their breakfast is I think the best in town. read more

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast. I had the hungry man breakfast -- half order of biscuits and gravy, 2 eggs and 2 great sausage links. My wife had spinach, bacon and swiss cheese quiche. She said it was the best ever. Many people were getting the scones. Heather waited on us. She kept my coffee cup full. We will be back soon. read more

Delicious, fresh food! I had the vegetarian burger made with black beans and corn. I am a meat-eater and love a good cheeseburger but thought I would give this a try. Outstanding!! My side salad had fresh, crisp lettuce and vegetables! On top of all that, friendly, attentive service. Couldn't ask for more!! read more

Simple one page menu that has all you need. This location has been many restaurants since I have been around town these last 35 years or so. This is the best and longest lasting. Breakfast has all I want, A good biscuit, excellent sausage links and sausage gravy, well prepared eggs and great house potatoes. Best in town by far for breakfast. read more

Looking for a donut shop but turns out there wasn't much variety of choice. So walked down the street to see what other options there were. This place looked interesting. Service was amazing and welcoming. The meal was delicious-one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. The french toast was dense and flavorful. Spot on classic perfect hash browns. The sausage biscuits and gravy was incredible! If you're in the area, do stop here! You won't be disappointed! read more

"Hungry Man Breakfast" served with one sad scaled down biscuit, slippery eggs, a side of snark, and bizarre ambivalent response to breakfast vs lunch inquiry. Since quiche can be breakfast or lunch, the gelatinous crust could have been cooked properly so only one person in our party would have needed dyspeptic intervention. read more

Really enjoyed the food and staff here! Local place with amazing freshly handmade burgers... I had the special- bacon and Boursin cheese on it... delicious! Quaint small town ... Smith Studio referral told us cafe had a 'chef' - guess they were mistaken. Eek, methinks not is right on target. Quiche was a total failure; soggy crust and rubbery bacon. What a shame, such an easy peasy dish. read more

Sandwich was nothing special. Table was sticky. Waitress ignored us to chat with locals. They served what was supposed to be a brownie but it had been baked with coffee. I loathe coffee. I loathe brownies with coffee in them even more. They rushed us out to seat other patrons. Not a pleasant experience. read more

A really great cafe/diner. I was in the mood for a simple midwest burger and fries. It was great! Simple but done well. Quality cheddar and toasted bun-a must in my book. Its 'smashed' which I love. No frozen burger patties here. My mother ordered the chicken salad sandwich and carrot ginger soup. Excellent. A little surprised with such a quality chicken salad and soup in a sleepy small town. My husband and I were on our way back to Michigan from Nebraska and looking for a hometown cafe to eat lunch. We were pleasantly surprised to find this one not too far off the interstate. The grilled chicken caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons was delicious! The tomato bisque was outstanding. The service was friendly and attentive. We are locals that have dined here regularly since State Street opened over a year ago. We're very lucky they came to town! The food is always great but I recommend you stray from the rather basic menu (which is all very tasty) and try the specials, which are where you can really enjoy having the benefit of a chef prepare you an extremely reasonably priced lunch or breakfast. You won't be hungry to add a scone, so grab one to take home--they're awesome. read more

State street café was so good we went back for lunch. My omelette was excellent and let me substitute fruit for potatoes and my wife had a pecan French toast that she said was great. We came back for lunch and the Greek salad very good with lots of Kalamata olives, try their house balsamic vinegar dressing. read more

My husband and I were in town for a funeral, and wound up at State Street by mere chance. The restaurant was cute, clean, and easy to find. The service was very quick and our waitress was very fun and friendly. The food was superb. We live in a large city and regularly have brunch at high-end places. The food here was easily equivalent to anywhere we've been, and at half the price! The quiche was excellent and so was the home made french toast. My husband also got biscuits and gravy, which he loved. The portions were large, and the coffee very fresh. I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

State Street Cafe is a welcome respite from the fast food funk you get on the road. Plus, it is worth the 2 mile trip trip off the interstate to see the cute town of Geneseo. We stopped for lunch but, they also serve breakfast. The service was quick and friendly. They have fresh salads and tasty sandwiches and burgers, perfect fuel for a healthy lunch. I had the Cafe salad, a nice combination of field greens, orange segments, almonds and cranberries and freshly grilled chicken. My son had the kids burger. It was a generous portion and tasted freshly made, not processed like most kid's meals. The interior could use some updating; it's very basic but clean. I'm sure the simplicity helps keep the prices reasonable but it is not memorable. It was a lovely day so we took ours to go and ate in the beautiful town square. Bottom line---worth the stop for nice lunch and the opportunity to see a small town! read more
