Very friendly and welcoming workers. I wasn't sure how good the food was but we were pleasantly surprised . We ordered shrimp friend rice , Mongolian beef and general tso's chicjen . Every small town almost seems to have a strip mall Chinese restaurant, and this is the one in Geneseo. It's a lot better than expected to be honest. New China is another one of those genetic named Chinese places. Looks about the same inside as any of these except for the booths. There's QR codes of the menu on these you can scan. After coming in and ordering, we decide to just dine in. It doesn't look that bad in here really. There's a reach in with beverages, and it's not just pop. It's about $2 for pear juice. This amazingly was pretty good and not like it was sickeningly sweet. As for the food, there's limited vegetarian choices. It's about $11 for the cheapest entree. We each got the Ma Po Tofu. It's a vegetarian friendly recipe. There's no pork in this. Good place for a town with not a whole lot. It's not like it's incredible, but it's still okay though. People who follow me know I almost always try to find something nice to say in a review. Can't do that today. First problem. In this small Illinois Iowa town, the person at the counter taking the order spoke very little English, and was relying on a young boy for translation. (Grandson?). That may be how things started to go wrong. Of four entrees ordered, only one was correct. No idea what the other three were or were supposed to be. Each of them appeared to be different, but shared a characteristic of being made up of 90% chopped vegetables and gelatinous sauce. The take-out foam containers were more than half filled with steamed white rice. Having lived in China, my main complaint about the dish's content was the vegetables were most the most inexpensive ones found in any typical American grocery, and certainly not resembling anything found in Chinese cooking. The amount of protein in the entrees was negligible. Three shrimp in one. Thin strips of pork, beef, or chicken in the others. Not even sure how one would cut chunks of protein in these shapes. Finally, the "extras" in the bag (or lack there of). Three packs of hot mustard, one packet of sweet sauce, ZERO packets of soy sauce, ONE pair of chopsticks, three napkins, no cookies. This is middle America, do you really need to seek out mediocre Chinese food? Go next door, get a Wisconsin-style butter burger or some cheese curds. We think orders go through a corporate office of some type. But if not this review is even worse for a small town business. I couldn't understand the individual very well so their was a misunderstanding about the order. Long story short they wouldn't replace it in the end but very unprofessional in discussing it with my wife and telling her that the "old man" that placed the order didn't know what he was ordering. Disgusting!!! Worst Chinese ever had. Traveling to MI from Denver and staying hotel in town on Xmas eve and this was only place open. Got chicken lo mein and beef w broccoli.
