Great bourbon selection for those who enjoy a good bourbon drink. Food was great! It's been years since I've been here but gonna have to visit more frequently when I'm in town. Service was great. Outstanding from the minute we walked in the door. The staff was great, friendly and professional. The place was bar far, the cleanest restaurant I have ever been to, and I own a cleaning business. The food was fantastic, we both ordered steaks and they were perfectly cooked to our liking. The salad bar is bar far one of my favorites anywhere. Monica, our waitress, was fantastic. We arrived a 1/2 hour after they opened on a Saturday night and the parking lot was pretty full. The restaurant is handicap accessible once you get in the front door, but you have to be able to open the door without help. When we went in we told them there were 3 of us and we had a reservation and we still had to wait to be seated. The lady at the register was not friendly and definitely not welcoming especially if you didn't have a reservation so I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation. Our server was right on top of things and did a good job making sure our food came out hot, fresh and just how we ordered it. The food was very good. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, a 1/2 chicken with baked potato, and a whole rack of ribs also with a baked potato. The meals included a very nice salad bar and a bread basket. Prices are right in line with all the nicer restaurants in the area. read more

Another great meal tonight and service was amazing. Meals are now more a la carte, not served with default sides, although some meals still provide potato and veggies. So you can order just a steak and get Just A Steak. Not wasteful of food if you're just not that hungry. Amongst the 4 of us, Shrimp de Jour, Country-style ribs, and 2 filets. All were great and cooked correctly. Shrimp was a bit bland and might have been better with light seasoning. Two of us had asparagus as a side dish, tender and sweet. Plenty of parking, and lots of diners, but without reservations we were seated right away. As COVID restrictions fade away, this place will fill up on most nights. For us folks who have lived in this general area for a "few" years, this restaurant is the twin-sister of the former Brown Shingle Restaurant in Dixon which sadly enough closed some years ago. The hospitality, the menu, the incredible salad bar, the personal service you receive are without a doubt the best in the business. The current owner is always on the premises and welcomes most of the people who decide to dine there. They have a separate banquet room for private parties as well. Because it is such a fine place, you can only imagine how crowded it gets very quickly on weekends especially. So PLEASE call in a reservation ahead of time. Even with a reservation, you may have to wait because the diners at your future table have not finished yet. This always calls for patience and understanding in my book. Similar to The Deathly Hallows, half the adventure of the Forest Inn lies in the journey. It stands alone, an oasis surrounded by miles of cornfields. As we pulled up to this rural restaurant I couldn't believe how many cars were in the parking lot. Apparently Forest Inn is the place to be if it's Saturday night and you're within 60 miles of Morrison, Illinois. The food was great. We started with the spicy onion rings that were on special and then our waitress quizzed us on our feelings about them; they're apparently a new item on the menu. I thought the rings were great. Not super spicy, but pleasantly so, and they were extra hot & crispy, obviously made to order. My entrée was coconut shrimp, and though I found the accompanying sauce oversweet, the shrimp themselves were cooked perfectly. I also loved the salad bar that we were dismissed to after the waitress had taken our order. There was lots of stuff available to make a perfect salad. My companion ordered prime rib that was enormous and looked amazing. He says Forest Inn makes prime rib consistently well and it's one of his favorite places to order it. I really enjoyed my experience at The Forest Inn. The quaintness of location, wonderful service, and good food make it a memorable supper destination. read more

The entrees are huge, and being from out of town, I didn't want leftovers. So, my friend and I decided to split an entree. We were told it would be 10.95 for an additional salad bar. Plus, a $4.00 split plate fee. When our entree arrived, the waitress asked which one of us was going to split it. Usually, when you let a server know you will be splitting and they charge you, they split it for you and bring it on 2 plates. When I mentioned that and asked why they were charging $4 if they weren't splitting it, I got no response; only a blank look. When our check came, we gave two credit cards and asked her to split it. Well, apparently, it was too difficult to do the math. She rounded our 48.32 check to 50 dollars and put 25 on each of our cards. Went here for a birthday dinner not expecting to much from an old "supper club" as they say. As I walked in, I noticed how well maintained the place was. Which I soon realized I was going to be changing the way I thought about this place. The staff was amazing, very friendly and fast. I had the Peppered Steak and it was the best steak, I believe I have ever had. As a place that before I walked in I thought it would be a flop. I was totally wrong. Great place out in the country on US route 30. You can be driving along and suddenly this restaurant pops up on the side of the road in a rustic rural area in Illinois. My wife and I live around the area and decided to drive there for a birthday celebration. We were warmly greeted by the front desk and seated quickly by the owner even though we were a little early for our reservation. No wait! Very charming decor, modern and updated. Waitress was very welcoming and helpful in helping us understand the specials along with the normal menu items. We ordered the Saganaki appetizer and were not disappointed. She also took the rest of our order and did not place through the kitchen until we had visited the exceptional salad bar. We were not rushed or hurried and every part of our dinner was perfect, even with many large groups that came in and could have caused us some timing issues. salad bar was complete and included items not found on other salad bars such as pickled herring, deviled eggs, and in house made salad dressings. Dinner itself was very delicious and well prepared. My wife had the bacon wrapped beef tornados and I had a ribeye steak. Both were cooked to the perfection of our request. As a side we both had the potatoes gratin. They were wonderful and served in the right sized ramekin. We enjoyed a very nice evening. Servings are large, and plentiful, but very excellent. We did not have dessert, as we were full. We will go back again and again and again. Worth the drive to visit. read more

We had a wonderful meal and excellent service this evening. Part of my review includes the bathrooms which were impeccable. We ordered the family style chicken which includes the salad bar and onion rings or pasta and choice of potato. The salad bar was delicious and all the salads were homemade. Try the potato salad it was amazing and they even had herring. Best of all was the tasty moist chicken which had a light crispy breading and the au gratin potatoes were fantastic. For little Morrison Illinois this is fine dining but in reality it's pretty plain. It was an okay meal but not the best I've ever had. The kitchen was having a hard time getting steaks done quite right. Mine was undercooked while everyone else's were overdone. My steak also had an "off" flavor and needed salt. The salad bar was quite small and I was taken aback by the shredded lettuce. Outback Steakhouse does a better job. read more

Hostess demeanor leaves a little to be desired. Check in and she's like take a seat, going to be a while. As we are waiting, she tells another couple, "thats The forest inn on a Saturday night.' . Worth the wait, kabob was 4 stars and the samoln exceeded my wifes expectations . Service was prompt without being a pain. Prices are reasonable.
