I came on the RITE day. Their Wednesday special is 2 for $6.99. I got 4 (2 to go) with a Rootbeer and a Onion rings! I was living my teenage dream. I haven't had a Made-Rite in 30 years! I was visiting home, drove past the image on I280 and had to stop! It was so nostalgic The loose meat sandwich is classic. It was a little dry but I didn't care. I was so giddy. The burgers were bigger than I thought. I like with onion, mustard and pickles, no ketchup cause that's a Sloppy Joe but I got too excited and said put everything on it! I didn't care as I was in my zone. The onion rings were delicious. Light batter causing a grat crisp bite, even fry and their homemade ranch was chefs kiss. Washed it down with a Chicago Rootbeer; which hit the spot. Definitely, nostalgic Shay was so sweet. She got my food out promptly. The burger sat in the wrapper. I didn't know they were served that way. She made me laugh because I kept looking at the spoon she handed me. Untill I realized it was for the Beef that spilled out. Its been a minute. The service is terrible at this restaurant and so is the food! I ordered onion rings and they were so loaded with grease when I picked them up grease was dripping off of them, they were uneatable! The server didn't even ask why I didn't eat the onion rings, she just stuck a check down on the table right next to the untouched onion rings and walked away! The place was also filthy! I would not recommend anyone eating at this restaurant or at least this location! read more

Review Visit: August 15th, 2016 At Maid-Rite, your food is Made-Right. I've always heard of Maid-Rite diners but I was never able to visit one due to them being non-existent where I live. So, during a day trip up to the Quad Cities, I was delighted to find one along our route and asked if she wanted to try it out. Since she was along for the travels, she didn't hesitate to say no. It was a slow afternoon for the business as we were about the only people there. Parking was a breeze because of it, which is great since the parking lot is rather small if I remember right. We grabbed a booth seat and started to look over the menu. The offerings on the menu were similar to most other diners I have visited. A little bit of everything in some combinations you might not think of while cooking at home. We both were in the mood for burgers and fries, so that is exactly what we got. It didn't take long for our food to come out due to there being nearly no body else there. When our food was brought out to us, I was pretty disappointed in the look of the burger. If you look below, it looked sad. The bun eclipsed the burger goodies within. The fries looked appetizing though. I don't let the presentation of the food affect my overall score and thoughts of the place, so with that in mind, I picked up my bun and hoped there was some deliciousness nestled within. It wasn't but a few bites in that I knew I had a good burger. Not a home run but it was just what the taste buds were craving without knocking them out of the park. It was juicy and good but lacked some extra kick that other places will put in their meat. The fries tasted better than they looked, which was a huge plus. Its hard to mess up french fries but its easy to not make them stand out. Luckily this batch was standing out and waving a sign that said "I'm as delicious as I look!". The service was great as the waitress maybe had one other table to serve. While the overall meal and experience was great, you can tell this location has had it's best days in yesteryears. The place needed a good 'once over' with a cleaning crew, fresh paint, and some updated furniture. This does lend to a place having some charm to it but at the same time, it really does make a place feel outdated and on the verge of closing. Maybe this is how all Maid-Rites are though. I think the whole experience cost us less than $15 for everything, including the tip. Not a bad price for finally trying this place out while getting out of town for an afternoon. read more

Food was to be expected. Restaurant was horribly filthy I haven't seen a place this gross in person ever. Floors were beyond dirty. Looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in a very long time. It was hard to stay seated. We ordered a maid rite basket which comes with a spoon that was disgustingly dirty to say the least. I wish I was exaggerating. Hopefully they see this and take a look around their restaurant. My advice, bleach floors (mop) when slow which I'm guessing is often have staff clean!! read more

Usually these places are run down little dumps. I mean the food is always good for what it is no matter where you go. This one is a quaint little diner and I was pleasantly surprised it was very clean and the service was excellent. I got to Maid Rite Horshoe and a vanilla milkshake with a sidecar. Annabelle "Anastasia" was our waitress and she was extremely courteous and did a great job. I left her a $20 tip. This place is not expensive by any means and is definitely worth a stop. Do not look at some of the negative commentary on this little diner. You're not going there for a fillet mignon it's a Maid Rite. read more

I drove all around the QC area looking for an opened maid-rite, because the site indicates open until 10pm. And all closed at 4pm. read more

Confident this has to be the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in. Terrible dust, dead bugs, dried food and spills on literally everything. Kitchen hasn't been properly swept (let alone mopped) in maybe months. I don't think waitress has cleaned her apron since the she was hired. read more

What a lovely Maid-Rite location. I've been to quite a few Maid-Rites before, but this one takes the cake in terms of space. It's huge! With tons of tables for seating and a pretty large and varied (lunch and breakfast!) menu, you're bound to find something really nice here. PROS: -Laid-back staff. I definitely got the feeling that there's a comfortable, "home-y" atmosphere here. All of the staff were friendly and joking around with one another while taking care of orders. Lots of playful banter. -Feels a little more "legitimate" than some of the other Maid-Rites I've been to. The menus are fully laminated like a full restaurant menu and food was served in glasses with straws and bundled silverware. I'm used to being handed a bag of Lays chips and such, so this was a pleasant surprise. Both have their own merits, but this Maid-Rite felt like a higher-quality experience. -Maid-Rites were delicious - but of course they were going to be. Served with a spoon to be eaten properly too. -Entire decor has the "50's" theme to it. Lots of diner decor with red and white as the prominent colors. You can even sit at the diner bar with barstools to eat your meal. Seems like you get to choose where you sit too. -Classic glass-served milkshakes with whipped creams here! In multiple flavors! They can also make them to go. -If you're someone that likes to watch a business make your food, all of the grill and food equipment is in full sight of the bar seating. It's neat to watch the staff make the meals from scratch! CONS: -Food took a little longer than I thought it would considering we were one of a couple customers in the restaurant. Still, staff was friendly and relatively attentive, so it's hard to complain too much. read more

First off let me say Maid-rite is one of my husband's favorite places to eat. We walk in at 7:25pm the restaurant closes at 8pm. We are greeted with "We close at 8!" We replay okay that's fine. We know we are just there to eat and leave not socialize. Then I go to sit in one of the 2 booths that are open. My pants get soaked from the pool of water on the seat. The waitress walks over and says we'll just want to let you know the grill is down. My husband reply's is it broken? The waitress reply's no we just aren't making anymore grilled food. Then they barricade off the bathroom. My 7yr old had to go so I move the chairs and take her I come back, they have replaced the chairs barricading the rest of the restaurant off except our booth and the front counter. We tough it out, order out fried food. My jukebox comes with cheese, when it came out it was brown and congealing. We asked if it was okay she said yeah it just seems to be cold or something, she grabs it and says can I get something else. I replied yes ranch. We have never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant before. We left at 7:55. Before closing time. We will never return!! read more

This was a great place for my healthy travel meal, and the service was very good. I had oatmeal, egg whites, and some kind of "wheat" bread (what passes for that in middle America). The Maid Rites, however, are not. They are the kind with seasoning, not the kind I grew up with. I wouldn't order them again. The corn nuggets are a different story. We had dinner there one night, and they were gone before they got back to me! Good for breakfast, OK for dinner. Service great both places. Meal served hot, and reasonably priced. read more

A-OK, as three stars notes; I wish I could rate it higher. Hadn't had a Maid-Rite in years (from Chicago area, went to college in Iowa, so ate many in the day), and chanced by this place while in the Quad Cities for a wedding--I had to stop. Much more on the menu than a typical Maid-Rite. Decor all neon and faux '50s diner--more than a bit over the top. I got an order to go, service was a bit slow, and when got back to motel, the shake I'd ordered was missing. Fries quite soggy, but had a fresh-cut quality to them, and were okay. Onion rings and grilled cheese sandwich were disappointng. The Maid-Rites were tasty though, and I'd probably stop again if in the area just for the Maid-Rites--and to try to get my shake comped. For a true Maid-Rite experience, aim for Marshalltown. read more

This was plan c. The first place did not serve lunch on a Sunday. Plan B was full and we need to eat and run. This looked and had the feel of a 50's diner. Their trademark item is a loose meat sandwich with mustard and onion. I opt to add cheese and bacon. It was much better this way. Imagine a sauceless sloppy Joe sandwich. The BLT actually looked more delicious. Good place if you rather skip fast food places. Apparently this is a chain in the area. I'd eat here again if I was in the area. read more

Our waitress was extremely rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. After waiting several minutes at our table our waitress finally gave the 4 of us a menu. I asked for waters and a cup of coffee since she didn't ask and my daughter said she gave me a nasty look. The waitress came back with a small juice cup of ice and a coffee then laughed and said "oh I guess I should put water in that". I then asked if we all could have water and she said " oh they didn't ask for water". After deciding to leave because of the waitress' attitude she yelled out in snide way "have a nice day". My family and I have been coming here for years and have NEVER been treated this way. Just lost my business!!! This was another stop on my unofficial food tour of the Quad Cities. I had heard about this place from many locals, and it is definitely a unique experience. Maid-Rite is famous for their "loose-meat" sandwiches. That sounds a little odd, but is probably the best way to describe it. It consists of seasoned, ground beef on a hamburger bun, topped with condiments. After having eaten there once, I don't feel the need to go back, but I'm glad I tried it. I don't think you can get this type of sandwich anywhere else and the venue is pretty neat if you are into old advertising/packaging. Plus the shakes are great. read more

Let's figure it out. Years ago when in another Milan Location the flavor of the Maid Rites was so much better. There was a syrup or special additive added when cooking the meat. Time to recapture that flavor. It's what made the Maid Rite sandwich. Also the experience would include Root Beer served in a frosted mug out of a barrel. The original owners would be disappointed. Hey but you serve a sandwich just like we can get anywhere so not being special will not overwhelm you in customers. Crumbled meat sandwich at America's original franchise restaurant. I grew up with it so I love it. Service stinks and most everything else is gross. Breakfast is ok in a pinch. Stick with an omelette. Pancakes aren't good. read more

This is tricky rating. I LOVE this maid rite. The best in the QCA! BUT, they are starting to get over-priced on somethings. Like the Jukebox appetizer, it is NOT worth $7.59 at all. More like $4. You get hardly anything and the new "chicken twists" they have on it, over fried and very, very dry. Our waitress as of this date, was the worst. She took my drink order, WROTE IT DOWN, took my friend's drink order (which was tea and asked for sweetener) and asked me again. When she came back with the drinks, I asked for a straw and she said "I'll bring your sweetener in a minute" I looked at her and said "no, I asked for a Straw". She was very hard to communicate with. Let's just say we thought she was a person who had been in trouble with the law and probably had a "habit". She did not listen at all, we had to repeat stuff to her. Worst waitress at this location ever. We just hope she's not there when we go again, or we will A) as for a spot where she won't be waitressing or B) leave. read more
