The asparagus soup was world class. Food was fresh and full of flavor. And get dessert! Warm bread pudding or chocolate cake. Both were perfect!! I almost hate to add to the flood of good reviews, because this spot gets busy enough already. But it's excellent and deserves all of its success. You can't go wrong with their soup, sandwiches, deserts and coffee. Their quiche is alleged to be wonderful too, but I can't stop ordering the lunch combo (soup/sandwich or salad pick 2 combo). Perfect lunch sizes, great combinations, fresh and delicious. The kind and friendly service is casual and unpolished, but no complaints from me. So, I'm from out of town some 3 + hrs drive away. I had some in town local business, and I had wanted to try a top rated lunch place. It's a breakfast, lunchtime spot with an abundance of character. It's located in a later 1800's Davenport IA. historical converted home. Next to the railroad tracks in the city. I placed a take away phone order, in which they didn't pester me for any payment. Wow, total trust. So, I ordered two Muffuletta (with the ham, salami) sandwiches which come with potato chips. You can specify the spiciness level. They were quite flavorful. I also ordered the Lemon Zest cake and the Chocolate Espresso slices. Both were moist and tasty. I wasn't crazy about their flimsy takeaway containers and they packaged everything in one paper bag. When I had asked, they separated some items like the cake slices. Overall, a very nice welcoming experience and a nice chat with the harder working woman owner. I'm visiting Davenport from California and my daughter brought me here the day after Christmas for brunch. It was amazing! The ambience is extremely homey and close knit. The food was delicious and service was outstanding. It truly feels like you're dining with friends. They owners greet and take your order. They treated my granddaughter like an absolute princess. Happy to see the owner's friends come and support this business, but overall feel of the place was strange. It took an hour from the time we walked in to the time we sat down and had our order taken. You can hear the employees chatting/yelling and watch them prep food (ingredients from plastic containers moved to plastic bags), gloves (worn to prevent contamination) staying on while touching the fridge or other surface. Driving by there's an open light in the window and a small banner on the deck. That's all that tells you this is a public establishment and not a private home. Cafe d'Marie is a family affair and great care is shown toward wanting the customer to enjoy their experience. The owner was very welcoming and pleasant to chat with while we waited for our drinks and cookie. The homemade bakery items are the bomb and while we didn't have one the panini sandwiches sounded equally intriguing. There's indoor seating and a nice backyard area as well. Haven't been in a long time but thought it would be somewhere different than our normal rotation. Happy to be back here. This is one of those places that offers fresh, simple food that's well-executed. Nothing fancy but extremely homey and comfortable. Makes me feel like I'm a kid at a family members house being served lunch -- in a good way! It gives you that cared for, sleepy Sunday afternoon feel. Yes, it's in a home and a little packed with tables and decor (Christmas stuff year round but who cares). It's quaint and adorable and lovely. It's clean despite being lived in so I'm here for it. Their coffee and baked goods are where it's at. But the paninis are really yummy and the soup was great! Note that strollers are a little complicated inside. I would recommend leaving it outside or sitting on the beautiful patio weather permitting. Don't come here if you're in a hurry - which by the way is very European in and of itself. So sit down, relax, have a nice conversation or bring a book (or order to go). This place clearly has a good following but is approachable for anyone who is going for the first time. You'll likely be amazed at how lively it is in such a small space when from the road it looks like nothing more than an 1800s brick river house - another part of the whimsy and fun of this place. Though I was raised in Davenport, Iowa, my visits home are whirlwinds. It is dependent upon my mom to show some of the best places to eat. She claims that I have high standards since I live close to NYC. Cafe d'Marie is now my new favorite place to eat whenever I am in the Quad-Cities. We were joyfully greeted by the staff when we entered. (There are two entrances - one that is directly in front of the cafe, a second which is on the side. The former is cool because it gives you the feel that you're visiting the home of an old friend: short stairs, foyer, etc. The latter is great because you get a chance to walk through the study before entering the dining room. Both gives you a chance to view the sun room that provides a view of downtown and The Centinniel Bridge.) My mom enjoyed her hibiscus tea - balanced, full of flavor, but add your own sugar. I had an espresso. I think it was slightly more than a double, but still it was quite good. Both came out relatively quickly. My parents had The No. 1 - turkey, cranberry, provolone, spinach on artisan bread. They both thought it was quite good. I ordered The No. 11 - Cafe d'Marie's take on the muffletta. I chose to have the "mild" olive tapanade. That was a great choice because even the mild had a bit of a pleasurable kick to it. It wasn't overwhelming but definitely added to the sandwich's flavor. The bread was also artisan which made it more of a panini. No arguments by me. It was quite good - so much so that I've been telling everyone about it this afternoon. The portions were perfect. You will not leave stuffed but you know that you had a hearty lunch. For dessert, my parents had the traditional bread pudding. The cafe offered three options cinnamon, pecan, and cherry. My parents chose the "original" (cinnamon) with a smile on their face. The cinnamon roll was fresh and warm with an overflow of icing - just the way it should be. Cafe d'Marie is an ideal spot for a mid-afternoon lunch with plenty of seating both inside and under a huge shade tree outside. If you're living in the Quad-Cities, this is a great change of pace from many of the local offerings. If you're visiting, then make this your first stop. My only complaint is that Cafe d'Marie does not have an Instagram. It's 2023! I want to be able to continue to follow their progress before my next visit home. read more

Two ripe years ago, I came to cafe d'marie as a last-minute alternative to avoid the long wait at QC pancake house. Initially, I was somewhat disappointed and off-put by the lack of traditional egg-and-potato breakfast dishes offered. After one meal, I knew that this would become my go-to. The sandwiches are immaculate and crafted with the finest tomato/basil/pesto breads around. The quiches have a respectably tender and flaky crust. The teas--all served hot or iced--are refreshing year-round. The soups (in particular the cream of asparagus) are quite honestly heaven in a cup, if you believe in such a thing.
