Review Visit: August 15th, 2016 A rustic coffeehouse that serves up a variety of items. I stopped by while heading to Jumer's Casino and was pleasantly surprised by the antiqueness and rusticness of Theo's. It is full of wooden furniture and older signs and decor. They offer the typical coffee varieties along with some baked goods and a food menu. I only had a coffee (black this time) and it was good. Not stellar, but it was black, so what can you expect? The food menu looked good, but I had food before heading here, so I was not hungry. The staff was friendly and gave great service despite being a bit busy. Overall, it was a nice little coffeehouse and if I lived in the area, I would visit it frequently. I just love the old antique feeling it has. read more

This place is so cute! The highlight of my short stop at Rock Island was finding this coffee spot. Hubby and I stopped by to get coffee. I have NEVER been to Rock Island, so thank goodness there was yelp to help out. Anyway, walking in, it was a cozy coffee shop that offered a variety of food items, sandwiches, teas, coffee and a whole bunch more. The 2 baristas working were friendly. They were patient with all my questions and they took the time to explain some favorites. I ended up getting an eggnog latte (which they make from REAL eggnog, NOT a mix or powder) The latte not only warmed this Hawaii girl up, but tasted so creamy and delicious. The coffee was smooth! There was no need to add any sugar. It tasted fantastic. Overall, if you ever find yourself around the area, this is a nice place to grab some coffee and snacks. read more

Just move to the Quad Cities and decided on a whim to try this place out. Staff was very friendly and relaxed. It was obvious they liked working here, which is a huge sign of a good business. When I hesitated on what to order, the barista suggested the Toddy - a 24 hour cold brew over ice with milk and lightly sweetened. BEST DECISION EVER. It was so delicious! I also got a veggie breakfast burrito which was amazing. Very laid back vibe, Sinatra playing in the background. All sorts of customers came in, from hipsters to the elderly to businessmen. There were regulars the baristas knew by name and they greeted each other like old friends. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I can across Theo's Java club by accident. The Arsenal bridge was closed today and I was forced to re-route. I missed my normal turn from rerouting and saw a drawing for a coffee shop. I began to drive down the road and didn't see it at first but I found it. I was greeted promptly upon entering and advised this was my first time here. The barista allowed time for me to look over the menu explained the menu and gave suggestions. The coffee and espresso is really good here and they are priced very reasonably. I also enjoy they have a punch card. While I didn't try their food it smelled amazing and was well priced too. I highly recommend and definitely plan to return. Needless to say everything happens for a reason and I'm happy the bridge was closed because this is truly a hidden gem. read more

Love! What a neat place. As soon as you walk towards Theo's you can feel the hipster vibe, since there were so many of them sitting outside at the tables on the sidewalk. Though that was what I was craving... being from Chicago and all. They have a full coffee shop menu, with sandwiches and other lunch fare items. I got a yummy tuna melt sandwich on wheat with cheddar cheese, freshly made by some long-haired barista. The iced coffee was good, though only one refill. Boo. I did sit and read for some time, it was very quiet, though air conditioned. The walls are covered with very interesting local historical antiques and old newspapers from important events in the world. The music is pretty great too. An ecclectic mix of music from around the world, few to be recognized, but a nice departure from the same ol'. I'll go again and have breakfast there. read more

When I entered Theo's Java Club a couple of weeks ago, I was instantly transported back in time to 2002, when I basically lived there. Very little has changed since then and the laid back atmosphere is exactly the same. There were several people in line, but the very capable barista quickly helped each customer. I ordered a toddy, which comes iced, and it was dynamite. A little creamy, but still very coffee-ey, and very delicious. I'll order it again next time I stop by, which will definitely be soon. read more

This place is has a great atmosphere. The service was nice and relatively fast (it took 4 minutes ish for a latte and 7 ish minutes for my sandwich). The soy latte was good, nothing mind-blowing but still great. I liked the small taste of pumpkin spice latte that I tried, even though I usually hate the taste of pumpkin in drinks. I am definitely considering coming back, even though it's a 20-25 min drive from my house. read more

Finding coffee at 3pm on a Saturday in the Quad Cities proved more difficult than I thought! Most all spots in Davenport close at 3 so we headed over the bridge to Rock Island to try our luck. I was intrigued by their specialty drink the "toddy" (non-alcoholic) so we headed in to give it a try. You can have it iced or hot and I chose hot as it was a chilly day. It was fairly busy which shows there is still a crowd that wants weekend afternoon caffeine! The toddy was a little too sweet and not quite strong enough in my opinion, I really should've had them add a shot of espresso. The decor is eclectic with old records on the walls and many decades worth of notices pinned to a huge bulletin board. It's in a pretty desolate part of town though, not many places open around there. read more

Theo's is one of the best coffee spots in the QC. The coffee itself is good, but the ambiance is what makes it special. The decor is rust belt chic. The baristas are charmingly awkward and awkwardly charming, and some are even cheerful. The sandwiches are tasty, and they serve breakfast all day. They've got booths, tables, and armchairs. Two main rooms and seating outside. It's a good place to work, people watch, or just hang out with friends. The customers are an eclectic bunch, and that's a sure sign of a good cafe. Open mic nights are something. The place has an edge without trying to be edgy. I approve. read more

I love this place. It's not as uppity as some coffee houses are starting to be, which is nice. When I go to a local place, I don't want to go to yet another Starbucks. I want to go to a place like Theo's where people aren't trained to say the same things. Theo's is also just far enough away from campus that you don't have to worry about the sorority girls coming in and out and giggling the entire time. It's a chill atmosphere and the staff are great. The highest complement I can give it is that I'd recommend Theo's to a friend (and I do). read more

My first visit to Theo's was to enjoy an open mic nite. I typically attend at least one per week in the Quad CIties. I was surprised at how large the dining areas were, the place seemed comfortable enough and the stage area nice. However, the music.....not impressive. In fact more like offensive. I am more inclined to the singer/songwriter type of open mic. The open mic last night started at 7pm and ran til 10pm and seemed to brag of "punk". Many of the "performers" sang and played out of tune. They (the punkier ones) talked alot about being hung over or on drugs, and the use of the Devil's lettuce?? The worst of the bunch came when a trio of middle aged men plugged in and made some insane noise. It included profanity and directed it toward America? One guy had a sax, now I did not say he played it, I said he had one on stage and blew into it. The guitar player? The same, I don't think he had a clue what a guitar is for, really. Don't know what the other dude onstage was supposed to be doing. Im all for rebellion and chaos, but that? That was just horrible noise. There were only a handful of decent performers for the whole night, definitely not worth hanging out at this establishment all evening for that. We wont be back to this open mic-and will leave any open mic if we see that awful "trio" attempting to get onstage. read more

I went there the other day after it was pointed out to me on my website. So of course, I had to check it out and write a review! Some big positives: 1) Outdoor seating 2) Great coffee & food 3) Awesome historical pictures of the City inside 4) Free wifi from the hotel across the street Negatives: 1) Outdoor seating comes with crazy vagabonds wandering around from the bar next door...entertaining, but slightly bothersome when they want things from you 2) Facist parking lady giving everyone tickets So, here are my suggestions: 1) Head down there around lunch time 2) Park very carefully 3) Go inside and order a bite to eat and some coffee 4) Sit INSIDE and enjoy the atmosphere while you eat 5) Spend the last few minutes of lunch outside finishing your coffee and laughing at vagabonds 6) Return to work satisfied in mind, body and soul read more

This is the kind of coffee shop my husband and I look for in every town we travel through and can never quite find. The coffee and bagels or muffins make my day worthwhile!! Fantastic!! I'm in town for work and staying across the street from this gem. I travel from Vancouver to NYC to LA and Miami and all over in between. Maybe I had super low expectations for this place based on the location but this is fantastic!! House made everything(banana bread, soups and sandwiches) and great, I mean amazing friendly service. The special treat is they knew how to make a Cuban latte- hard to find anywhere outside of Miami. And it was perfect!!!! That gets the 5 stars!!! Hate that I'm leaving tomorrow. Theo's is seriously one of the coolest coffee shops I have ever been to, and this is coming from someone who lives in Portland, Oregon about as "coffee-shop" a city if there ever was one. I spent many great hours in Theo's, especially back in the day when they allowed smoking. A cigar, a cup of coffee, and a great book- one of my favorite ways to spend a few hours. Theo's is so nostalgic. A gritty, hipster coffee house identical to the ones you find out here in Portland. I spent 7 years in the Quad Cities, and whenever I think back to my time there, I relish every moment I spent in Theo's. Great place to blow time in the quad cities, in my opinion. After returning for a second visit in as many days, I've updated my rating to "A-OK" (3 stars) from 4. While I think the ambiance and venue is great, I remain uninspired by the food and coffee options. This time around, I jumped on the tasty-looking bagels they have displayed on the front counter. Cream cheese was provided on the side (kindof tacky), and I found the bagel itself to be dry, bland and hard. I was hungry, but that's the only reason I ate it at all. It was not good. I had the regular coffee this time instead of an espresso drink and wasn't impressed by it either. Certainly not bad coffee by any means, but it lacked any distinguishing characteristics- what I might expect from a restaurant but not a coffee shop. Overall, Theo's is a great place to come and hang out, but has some room to improve on their food and coffee choices. read more

Great atmosphere and super friendly service! The coffee was pretty good but was not very hot, and the orange muffin I had was also pretty tasty (although not impressive.) I keep coming back. The Reuben is up to $6.80 now. Still a great value. A couple of weeks ago I hosted a business meeting, and ordered a bunch of sandwiches. They had them ready just in time - so they weren't sitting around getting soggy. Everyone enjoyed their sack lunch. Still haven't seen anyone that works here that isn't super friendly and helpful. I can tell the staff care about each other. It is my favorite place for lunch. read more

This is my go to place when I want to have a sandwich and nice cup of coffee. It is a very personal place, so keep that in mind when coming here. It won't take long for the employees to know your name. The food is always good and you can tell it's fresh by the time it takes cooking it and the way that it tastes. All of the employees are great! What a great little gem I found when staying over in Rock Island. I had a breakfast sandwich and frozen Theoccino. Both were fantastic. The drink was better than anything I have ever had at Starbucks. It took a while to get the sandwich but was well worth the wait. If I lived there I be at Theo's almost every day. read more
