They filed bankruptcy voiding their services contracts leaving owners high and dry. No service no warranty just $80,000 of debt. They also threatened any solar worker with lawsuits if they work on their proprietary equipment. Major fraudsters here! Stay away!

Had an appointment to install my solar Photo Voltaic Supervisor 6 at 8:00 am. Technician Warren Grennan arrived at 7:55 am. He was assisted by Lucas (an experienced installer being trained in the way of SunPower). Both were professional and knowledgeable. As I watched the process (out of curiosity and interest), they explained every step along the way. They also shared alternative configuration approaches and the rational leading to their chosen path. Challenges arising during the installation process were expertly addressed. The installation completed faster than I thought it would. They instructed me on which phone application to install for system monitoring, verified my app was performing properly. They also provided troubleshooting tips and POCs should any issues or questions arose.

As temperatures soar, we still don't have solar energy. We received a phone call claiming we had been sent an email, which we never received. They mentioned a new inverter is being ordered but gave no definite installation date. I was promised a call the next day with an update, but no update was given. All our friends and neighbors are enjoying their solar energy systems. None of them have Sun Power. One friend was contacted by their solar lease company about better solar panels, and they replaced all their panels without any issues. We wish we had chosen their solar company. What has happened to Sun Power? @nbclaiteam @sunpower

Let me begin by saying I have only left one negative review for a company in my life. Just writing this makes me sick... I feel others should know about my experience before making a HUGE purchase such as solar panels on their homes. Let's start with the facts... The company promises but does not in any way to live up to the promise. This was a $70K project. 1) the project managers are so overwhelmed you're not going to receive a response in a timely manner. sometimes weeks. The project will be delayed (which one can argue is normal for construction). 2) the workmanship is terrible. I wish I could post pictures to show the trash, nails, plastic, roofing shingles, metal bars, and food wrappers that were left on my roof when the solar installation was complete. God only knows what the attic looks like because I haven't been there. 3) Installation was delayed and then the permitting was delayed months. This means I was paying my $300 solar bill every month and PG&E electric bill simultaneously for three months. When I contacted Sunpower about this I was told I would get a refund. That's great right? But nothing happened. Then I contacted them again, and I was assured a refund process will begin. Then my "case" was escalated. I haven't heard anything since october 2023. This is after 5 emails, 6 phone calls. Still no response and we are now In February, 14th 2024. 4) It gets worse. Last month there was a leak in my roof. The roof is brand new. I contacted the roofing company and was shown pictures of how the solar panels were not installed properly by Sunpower. This was $450 to patch (not repair, just a temporary patch to stop the water from the rain coming into my home as it was destroying the drywall and flooring. You would think the solution is simple right? Call Sunpower have them fix it? Well, it's been almost one month, and Sunpower has called and messaged me now 3 times, asking the same questions about the roof. Meanwhile nothing has been done. They took one week just to confirm the install was under warranty. After that happened my roof is still not fixed nor the $450 refunded. I did my research and thought this was a great company to go with for solar panels. I'm so disappointed. You will have one person tell you something and another say something else. Your problems and concerns will receive no response once the project is complete and you sign the paper work. This was was a $70K install. Once they get your money you are left in the dust. So sad... Gluck with your solar journey and please do you due diligence before choosing a company.

They just came out of reorganization a few months ago and set up a new accounting system with a new autopay for leasees. Sounds great, but I wasn't able to access my account for the first month or so apparently due to a glitch in their system and every since I get 2 or 3 daily reminders that I haven't paid my bill and they're charging me late fees and I have written to them in their customer email that offers help, but to date no response whatsoever. I truly believe they let their entire customer service staff go, have only bots now sending auto responses and I certainly can't recommend them. They also don't do their own service, it's farmed out to RenovaPlus (new name for them, post Sun Power BK). They are great, expensive, but great. This subdivision developer told me that I had to have solar, and it had to be from SunPower. I was uncomfortable with this but knew I had to comply. I never saw the house that I ordered until it came time to move in. After several months, I noticed that my system was the only one in my development whose solar panels were on a north facing slope of my house despite having ample south facing slope which would have been preferable, so I decided to investigate. I called SunPower's customer care and was given polite but non-technical responses and was given assurances that they would supply information on my house's system design that may have caused this odd placement of my system. I never heard from them again. I then contacted my subdivision's warranty department and SunPower cooperated with them and supplied their system design diagram to them (i had previously requested SunPower to supply me with this same document, and nothing ever happened.) It turned out that the aerial view of my house had a N-S-E-W symbol on it that was 180 degrees off, so the solar installers followed SunPower's diagram and obeyed the unnatural orientation; result, a north facing solar system! This resulted in more phone calls to Spwr's customer care which resulted in the manager of that department calling me and verbally offering an amount of compensation money equal to about two of their panels. This manager and customer care dept I found out are based in the Philippines. I told this guy that that was a lowball offer and that I wanted my system to be fixed, physically. He said he'd take it back for review. This guy is a fast talking used car salesman type who I have come to believe does not know much about solar at all but he's "faking it until he makes it" type of job performance. Next, I found a home in my subdivision which has an identical SunPower system to my own, only this owner has his system where it should be; i.e on his house's southern slope. We compared system statistics. My system underperforms his by generating 40% less solar power per year! This discovery caused more calls by me to SunPower, which resulted in them escalating my complaint to another person, this time in Texas. After a week or two, SunPower officially closed my complaint with no action. All I was requesting was that they move my system to my south slope at their expense so that I could stay at NEM 2.0. I pay about an extra $500/yr in electricity due to SunPpwer underperformance, and due to their lack of honesty this will happen for as long as this house stands unless something is changed. You can read about this case in more detail by going to the Better Business Bureau archive BBB complaint ID 21933514. SunPower company is financially 'on the ropes' which may explain their blatant lack of care to fix their mistakes. Avoid them like the plague.

When we raised concerns, I believe the salesperson my partner dealt with wanted to make things right, but sales leadership stepped in, dismissed our concerns as unfounded, and offered nothing. Those concerns were (and still are): 1) Sketchy contract execution. NPP offers a 5-year prepaid lease in partnership with Balto Energy. It lets homeowners offset installation costs because the leasing company collects a 30% federal tax credit (no longer available to homeowners) and, in NPP's words, "monetizes that tax credit over 5 years." The contract was executed by sending the DocuSign to just one partner, with all owners lumped onto a single signature line -- one person signing on behalf of the other. For a married couple in California, that's legally questionable under community property law, given a) the encumbrances placed on jointly owned property, and b) no power of attorney authorizing one spouse to sign for the other. I never saw the agreement until installation was underway. 2) Misleading claims. My partner was told, verbally and in writing, that we'd "own the system outright" at the end of the 5-year term. In truth, the contract contains only vague language about a fair-market-value buyout, with no detail on how to initiate it or who to contact at end of lease. We've had zero contact with Balto through this entire process -- only NPP -- yet NPP's sales director told us they have no role in the lease agreement once it's signed. In other words, they don't stand behind the product they sell. Don't be like us -- do your diligence (especially if you're over 65 and new to solar leases), verify every claim against the actual contract language, and make sure all owners review and sign every agreement.

I spoke with many contractors, and almost all of them sent salespeople who gave generic answers or tried to push cookie-cutter solutions that clearly didn't fit my setup. Carlos was completely different. From the moment he arrived, it was clear he wasn't a salesperson -- he's an engineer, and it shows. He took the time to deeply understand my system, reviewed actual spec sheets on the spot, and immediately identified issues that other contractors completely missed. Multiple companies told me Hyundai panels would work fine. Carlos checked the amperage limits, applied proper safety margin calculations, and clearly explained why those panels would not work with my EcoFlow system -- saving me from a costly mistake. He also walked me through: Proper panel selection within voltage and amperage limits Safe string configurations and series wiring How to maximize roof space while staying within code Permitting requirements I hadn't been told about before On top of that, Carlos identified critical code and safety requirements that no one else mentioned: Bollards required in the garage to protect battery units Correct battery placement to maintain required clearance from doors and entrances Heat detector requirements for battery installations in a garage These are all things that would have caused inspection failures later -- and Carlos caught them immediately. He spent well over an hour with me, climbed onto my roof to check for obstructions, inspected battery placement, reviewed wiring paths, and answered every question in detail without ever rushing me. What truly sealed the deal was how efficient and transparent the pricing process was. Carlos was able to turn around a detailed quote very quickly, and when I received it, I was honestly surprised -- it was a significant amount lower than every other quote I received, even though his evaluation was by far the most thorough.
