What stands out for me over the years is the people that do the work, including the service manager. There have been four eras at Oakton Sunoco over the past 25 years -- before Kevin, with Kevin, without Kevin, and now thankfully, with Kevin again. He brings a level of attention that I find rare -- he is also compassionate -- I have seen him work extra hard to give people down on their luck and needing a repair every coupon and discount he could find. I've probably spent $15,000 on repairs and $25,000 on gas at this Sunoco over the the past 25 years, perhaps more, on five or more cars over time, and I have always felt I was getting NEIGHBORHOOD service, world-class quality, and "Made in the USA" efficiency. This place works -- it works better when Kevin is here, so I hope he is not leaving anytime soon.

Except that the inspector disappeared so I had to wait even longer the second time. Manager would not comp me for the second inspection even though this cost me an extra 40 minutes. He finally offered me only $4 off, so I guess my 40 minutes wasted is with $4.

Due to a Honda recall, I dropped my car off across the street at the Honda dealership. I received a call saying my timing belt was rotted, I had multiple oils leaks, water pump problems, and more! All totaling about $2,900. I promptly called Schmitz's on the recommendation of a coworker and explained the situation. Al assured me that I could bring it by when Honda was done and he would review the quote and give me an honest answer on what my car actually needed. Later that afternoon, I dropped my car off and went over the list with Al. He went out with me to take a look under the hood, kindly showing me that my car doesn't even have a timing belt! The serpentine belt and timing chain were clearly fine. I went back to work and got a call about an hour later with a recommendation on two things to fix now and a couple to keep an eye out on over the next two years. It was fixed by the end of the day. He could have taken Honda's quote and said yep that is all true and charged me just a little less. But instead Al took the time to show and explain, thoroughly "diagnose" my car, and handle it all in a couple of hours. By the way, it cost me less than $500. I will 100% be back when my car needs it.

Came by today to get an emissions test (twice actually if you count my morning trip)…read more Was super excited to see they opened at 7; so I swung by at 745; but their sign said they didn't do state/emissions inspections until 9; so I went to work. On the way home stopped by and was helped by two gentlemen who were super polite/friendly and easily helped me with my emissions test. I was expecting quite a wait; but they said about 15 mins and I was probably already back in the car in that amount of time. Next time I have a car issue I'll be back to get mechanically work done if I needed. January 2023 update: called to see when their emissions bay closed and was told if I made it in the next ten mins he'd help me. I rushed here as fast as I could and they were happy to help. Turning customers away right after I pulled up. Super excited to see this place is still having excellent customer service!

My daughter had a horrible experience just trying to get a refund on a faulty overpriced usb cable…read more The employee didn't believe the cable didn't work, tried to get her to exchange it for another cable, then when she said she just wanted to get a refund, he laughed at her and called other customers up. Made her wait, while he assisted other customers, instead of just doing the refund. Wasting 20 minutes of her time just to get the refund finally taken care of. No respect, just because she is a young woman, like her time is not just as valuable as every other customer.

If I'm having trouble with some simple thing such as getting air in my tires at the proper pressure they're always helpful. Prices are fair.
